    Due to the current events related to Covid-19, the conference originally planned for July 2020 has been postponed to April 7-9, 2021.The conference will be organized virtually by videoconference. ORAL; International audience; In this paper, a study of UWB receivers in terms of detection theory is presented. The UWB radar which is presented in many works previously [1]-[3] has many applications. For road UWB radar application, the receiver based on correlation is the optimum receiver [4]. In fact, it maximizes the probability of detection. We will consider, in this study, a correlator receiver based on a threshold detection method. As in narrowband [5] [6], we will describe the theoretical study that evaluates the performance of the UWB receiver based on correlation in terms of detection and false alarm probabilities. Then a study of curves showing threshold receiver operating characteristics (ROC system), based on correlation and destined to be used for a UWB radar is presented. The study is original because it is presented for the first time in a UWB radar system.

    As a process, containerization in Africa is still on-going. In the last decades, a number of new port projects have emerged in parallel with the reorganization of services by shipping companies. To reflect these changes, this paper studies several questions on the geographic differentiation of maritime connectivities across the continent as well as on the longitudinal trends in maritime connectivities in relation to evolving economic, trade and logistical contexts. To this end, we propose a synthetic visualization of the country-level containerized links using the Liner Shipping Bilateral Connectivity Indicator (LSBCI). The resulting graph, obtained through Multidimensional Scaling (MDS), shows that West Africa and East Africa appear as relatively separated subsystems, mediated by several countries in the Northern and the Southern parts of Africa. Between 2006 and 2016, West Africa, initially tied to Europe and America, is increasingly tied to Asia. Our results show major improvements in the maritime connectivity of Morocco, Djibouti and several West African ports. Conversely, most of mainland East African countries stagnate or decline. Connectivities have not converged across the continent. In some cases changes in maritime connectivity mostly result from variations in vessel size. We explore a method to identify these situations.

    Print ISBN: 978-3-319-91478-7Electronic ISBN: 978-3-319-91479-4; International audience; Maintaining the level of integrity of pipeline networks to guarantee at least a reliable and safe service is a challenge operators of such networks are facing everyday. TIGF is one of the French operator which manages 5000 km of pipelines in the south-west quarter of France. This paper presents a decision-making tool which automatically ranks the pipeline sections regarding the risk of deterioration (damages and corrosion) and the gravity of the consequences, indicating which pipeline sections should be excavated. The tool relies on a fuzzy expert system which gathers 26 input variables, processes more than 300 rules, classifies the risk of deterioration into 7 classes and estimates the gravity. The rules are a formalization of human expertise: the fuzzy logic helps to tackle the vagueness of their knowledge and the measurement inaccuracy of some of the 26 input variables. The method has been tested on past excavations to assess its performances.

    International audience; IAir traffic is increasing, raising concern about local pollution and its adverse health effects on the people living in the vicinity of large airports. However, the highest risk is probably occupational exposure due to proximity. Jet exhaust is one of the main concerns at an airport and may have a health impact, particularly on the respiratory tract. Current studies are neither numerous enough nor strong enough to prove this kind of association. Yet, more and more people work in airports, and occupational exposure to jet exhaust is a fact. The aim of this review was to evaluate the existing knowledge regarding the impact of airport pollution on respiratory health. We conducted systematic literature searches to examine workplace exposures.

    Existing literature does not draw conclusions as to which speedometer type is better for truck driving. A digital speedometer would be more beneficial when obtaining absolute and relative readings, while an analogue speedometer would be more efficient and less distracting when detecting dynamic speed changes. Redundant speedometers, which simultaneously present digital and analogue speedometers, appear increasingly in vehicles, but no information is available on their ergonomic qualities. This study compared three speedometers: digital speedometers, analogue speedometers, and redundant speedometers. This study compared the efficiency, usability and visual distraction measures for all three types of speedometers in a simulated truck driving setting. The task-dependant results were confirmed for the digital and analogue speedometer. The redundant speedometer combined the benefits of each type presented separately, which highlights interesting theoretical and applied implications.

    Le Mercosur constitue, depuis son lancement à la fin des années 1980, un puissant facteur de recomposition territoriale dont les transports sont les éléments moteurs. Placé au coeur du dispositif d'intégration, l'Uruguay, au marché intérieur particulièrement étroit, ambitionne d'en devenir le carrefour, mais demeure pour l'instant, au même titre que le Paraguay, un des espaces contournés du Cône sud. La petite République Orientale, dont l'existence trouve son origine dans la rivalité entre entre ses deux puissants voisins, incapables de s'entendre sur le partage de l'estuaire de le Plata, hérite du caractère insulaire que sa vocation d'Etat tampon lui confère. Dans le contexte actuel de l'internationalisation des échanges et de l'intégration économique sud-américaine, l'Uruguay bénéficie cependant d'une position remarquable. Cette rente de situation s'articule autour d'une série de contacts, traditionnellement assumés par des espaces littoraux où des sites portuaires et balnéaires de qualité bénéficient de la proximité du marché argentin. A la croisée de multiples usages, la rive uruguayenne subit aujourd'hui toutes sortes de pressions, réactivées par le désengagement de l'Etat et la mise en oeuvre de processus d'ouverture économique. Ce réveil du rivage comporte toutefois une part de risque : celui d'apports capitalistiques massifs mais ponctuels, essentiellement basés sur les seules logiques du retour sur investissement. Si l'insertion régionale de l'Uruguay passe par la mise en valeur de son interface littorale, et notamment par la réactivation de ses ports commerciaux longtemps restés en sommeil, celle-ci ne peut s'établir en l'absence d'une stratégie territoriale d'aménagement dont les principes reposent en partie sur des choix de société. Since its creation, in the late 1980's, Mercosur has been a driving force in the territorial reorganisation of which transport is one of the key elements. Placed at the heart of this integration, Uruguay, with it's restricted internal market, has ambitions to become the crossroad of the region, but remains for the moment, at in the same position as Paraguay, one of the bypassed regions of the southern cone. The small Eastern Republic of Urguay who's existence is due to the strong rivality between its two powerful neigbours who were incapable of finding agreement on the division of the River plate estuary, has become an insular state because of it's role as a buffer. In the current context of internationalisation and economic integration in South America, Uruguay occupies an important position nontheless. The positive aspect of the situation is that the country benefits from a series of contact traditionally undertaken by ports and coastal areas due to its proximity to the Argentinian market. The Uruguayan coast is subject to pressure today due to the liberalization of the national economy. This reawaking of the coast is not without risk however : the requirement of massive and private investment. If the insertion of Uruguay as an important regional player is due to the value of its coastal access and notably by the reactivation of its ports, this one cannot be achieved without a territorial strategy which pricniples are necessary based on society choices.

    Subduction of a narrow slab of oceanic lithosphere beneath a tightly curved orogenic arc requires the presence of at least one lithospheric scale tear fault. While the Calabrian subduction beneath southern Italy is considered to be the type example of this geodynamic setting, the geometry, kinematics and surface expression of the associated lateral, slab tear fault offshore eastern Sicily remain controversial. Results from a new marine geophysical survey conducted in the Ionian Sea, using high-resolution bathymetry and seismic profiling reveal active faulting at the seafloor within a 140 km long, two-branched fault system near Alfeo Seamount. The previously unidentified 60 km long NW trending North Alfeo Fault system shows primarily strike-slip kinematics as indicated by the morphology and steep-dipping transpressional and transtensional faults. Available earthquake focal mechanisms indicate dextral strike-slip motion along this fault segment. The 80 km long SSE trending South Alfeo fault system is expressed by one or two steeply dipping normal faults, bounding the western side of a 500+ m thick, 5 km wide, elongate, syntectonic Plio-Quaternary sedimentary basin. Both branches of the fault system are mechanically capable of generating magnitude 6–7 earthquakes like those that struck eastern Sicily in 1169, 1542, and 1693. peer-reviewed

    Sustainable manufacturing technologies are the new challenge faced by enterprises, industries, and researchers. The development of a sustainability-based assessment method considering the environmental and economic impacts is crucial to realize viable manufacturing. However, few studies have addressed environmental economics and social flows using a common perspective. Mechanical machining is one of the most-used manufacturing techniques. The overall ecological, economic, and social footprint requires accurate and effective estimation and optimization. Several studies have addressed this issue by examining the entire process of machining, but sustainability flows for machining parameters and toolpaths have remained relatively unexplored. The lack of systematic assistance tools bridging the gap between decision-maker preferences and the three sustainability pillars—economic, social, and environmental—has impeded the widespread adoption of sustainable machining practices. To this end, this paper proposes an integrated approach to the decision-making problem that combines the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) with the Preference Ranking Organization Method for Enrichment Evaluations (PROMETHEE) for selecting a sustainable machining strategy. The sustainability criteria are driven by manufacturing process parameters commonly employed and regulated during the manufacturing phase. This includes toolpath strategies as a qualitative input factor and manufacturing parameters such as cutting speed, feed rate, depth of cut, and stepover as quantitative input factors, affirming the practical applicability of the method in industrial contexts. New fundamental methods are also presented for selecting the most efficient machining parameters and toolpaths according to the weights assigned to each ecological, social, and economic footprint by the decision-maker (the manufacturer or production manager). In this way, sustainable machining strategies in the manufacturing industry will be strengthened in integrity. In a case study of part-end milling, both manufacturing parameters and toolpath strategies are considered to establish sustainable feature-based machining decisions.

    ABSTRACTIn civil engineering, ground‐penetrating radar is widely used for road pavement surveys. In contrast to the existing literature, this paper takes account of the influence of interface roughness (surface and interlayer roughness) within the scope of data processing of radar signals. The rigorous electromagnetic method PILE (Propagation Inside Layer Expansion) provides simulated data that show the influence of the interface roughness on the backscattered primary echoes of stratified media; the interface roughness provides a continuous frequency decay of the magnitude of the echoes. The observed frequency variations of the radar magnitude introduce some shape distortion on the radar waveform. The latter variations can be modelled by an exponential function, which provides satisfactory results for a narrow bandwidth (2 GHz). An adaptation of the root‐MUSIC algorithm is proposed. As a result, it is possible to jointly estimate the time delay and the interface roughness. The algorithm is tested on data simulated by the PILE method and numerical examples are provided to assess the performance of this algorithm. The associated results show that the proposed algorithm can estimate both the time delay and roughness parameters with a small relative error.

    International audience; In this paper, we address a green delivery-pickup problem for Home Hemodialysis Machines (HHMs) categorized as scarce commodities. The system supplies the HHMs either from the central depot of the company or from the individual owners. Based on the sharing economy concept, the individuals who own the HHM devices can involve in this home health care system and share them with others through the fleet of the company to make money. After delivery of portable HHM devices to the clients (patients), they will be collected, disinfected and reallocated to fulfill the demands of the other customers. Moreover, respecting the environmental concerns, the vehicles’ fuel consumption and consequently the GHG emissions are realistically assumed as a function of the vehicles’ load, such that the company and especially the individual owners contribute to reducing GHG emissions, in addition to the primary economic motivations. Current research provides a bi-objective mixed-integer linear programming model which seeks minimizing total system cost and total carbon emissions. In order to solve the problem, Torabi and Hassini’s (TH) technique is applied and then a multi-objective meta-heuristic algorithm, self-learning non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (SNSGA-II), is developed for medium- and large-sized problems. Finally, the application of the problem is investigated by a real case study from the healthcare sector. Numerical analyses indicate that the proposed green sharing-enabled model has a meaningful impact on both operational-level logistics determinations as well as the environmental important attainment indicators. As notable savings are guaranteed in terms of total system cost and emission, the proposed model has a great potential to provide the item sharing activities with a proper sustainable solution.

ORAL; International audience; In this paper, a study of UWB receivers in terms of detection theory is presented. The UWB radar which is presented in many works previously [1]-[3] has many applications. For road UWB radar application, the receiver based on correlation is the optimum receiver [4]. In fact, it maximizes the probability of detection. We will consider, in this study, a correlator receiver based on a threshold detection method. As in narrowband [5] [6], we will describe the theoretical study that evaluates the performance of the UWB receiver based on correlation in terms of detection and false alarm probabilities. Then a study of curves showing threshold receiver operating characteristics (ROC system), based on correlation and destined to be used for a UWB radar is presented. The study is original because it is presented for the first time in a UWB radar system.

    As a process, containerization in Africa is still on-going. In the last decades, a number of new port projects have emerged in parallel with the reorganization of services by shipping companies. To reflect these changes, this paper studies several questions on the geographic differentiation of maritime connectivities across the continent as well as on the longitudinal trends in maritime connectivities in relation to evolving economic, trade and logistical contexts. To this end, we propose a synthetic visualization of the country-level containerized links using the Liner Shipping Bilateral Connectivity Indicator (LSBCI). The resulting graph, obtained through Multidimensional Scaling (MDS), shows that West Africa and East Africa appear as relatively separated subsystems, mediated by several countries in the Northern and the Southern parts of Africa. Between 2006 and 2016, West Africa, initially tied to Europe and America, is increasingly tied to Asia. Our results show major improvements in the maritime connectivity of Morocco, Djibouti and several West African ports. Conversely, most of mainland East African countries stagnate or decline. Connectivities have not converged across the continent. In some cases changes in maritime connectivity mostly result from variations in vessel size. We explore a method to identify these situations.

TIGF is one of the French operator which manages 5000 km of pipelines in the south-west quarter of France. This paper presents a decision-making tool which automatically ranks the pipeline sections regarding the risk of deterioration (damages and corrosion) and the gravity of the consequences, indicating which pipeline sections should be excavated. The tool relies on a fuzzy expert system which gathers 26 input variables, processes more than 300 rules, classifies the risk of deterioration into 7 classes and estimates the gravity. The rules are a formalization of human expertise: the fuzzy logic helps to tackle the vagueness of their knowledge and the measurement inaccuracy of some of the 26 input variables. The method has been tested on past excavations to assess its performances.

    International audience; IAir traffic is increasing, raising concern about local pollution and its adverse health effects on the people living in the vicinity of large airports. However, the highest risk is probably occupational exposure due to proximity. Jet exhaust is one of the main concerns at an airport and may have a health impact, particularly on the respiratory tract. Current studies are neither numerous enough nor strong enough to prove this kind of association. Yet, more and more people work in airports, and occupational exposure to jet exhaust is a fact. The aim of this review was to evaluate the existing knowledge regarding the impact of airport pollution on respiratory health. We conducted systematic literature searches to examine workplace exposures.

    Existing literature does not draw conclusions as to which speedometer type is better for truck driving. A digital speedometer would be more beneficial when obtaining absolute and relative readings, while an analogue speedometer would be more efficient and less distracting when detecting dynamic speed changes. Redundant speedometers, which simultaneously present digital and analogue speedometers, appear increasingly in vehicles, but no information is available on their ergonomic qualities. This study compared three speedometers: digital speedometers, analogue speedometers, and redundant speedometers. This study compared the efficiency, usability and visual distraction measures for all three types of speedometers in a simulated truck driving setting. The task-dependant results were confirmed for the digital and analogue speedometer. The redundant speedometer combined the benefits of each type presented separately, which highlights interesting theoretical and applied implications.

Cette rente de situation s'articule autour d'une série de contacts, traditionnellement assumés par des espaces littoraux où des sites portuaires et balnéaires de qualité bénéficient de la proximité du marché argentin. A la croisée de multiples usages, la rive uruguayenne subit aujourd'hui toutes sortes de pressions, réactivées par le désengagement de l'Etat et la mise en oeuvre de processus d'ouverture économique. Ce réveil du rivage comporte toutefois une part de risque : celui d'apports capitalistiques massifs mais ponctuels, essentiellement basés sur les seules logiques du retour sur investissement. Si l'insertion régionale de l'Uruguay passe par la mise en valeur de son interface littorale, et notamment par la réactivation de ses ports commerciaux longtemps restés en sommeil, celle-ci ne peut s'établir en l'absence d'une stratégie territoriale d'aménagement dont les principes reposent en partie sur des choix de société. Since its creation, in the late 1980's, Mercosur has been a driving force in the territorial reorganisation of which transport is one of the key elements. Placed at the heart of this integration, Uruguay, with it's restricted internal market, has ambitions to become the crossroad of the region, but remains for the moment, at in the same position as Paraguay, one of the bypassed regions of the southern cone. The small Eastern Republic of Urguay who's existence is due to the strong rivality between its two powerful neigbours who were incapable of finding agreement on the division of the River plate estuary, has become an insular state because of it's role as a buffer. In the current context of internationalisation and economic integration in South America, Uruguay occupies an important position nontheless. The positive aspect of the situation is that the country benefits from a series of contact traditionally undertaken by ports and coastal areas due to its proximity to the Argentinian market. The Uruguayan coast is subject to pressure today due to the liberalization of the national economy. This reawaking of the coast is not without risk however : the requirement of massive and private investment. If the insertion of Uruguay as an important regional player is due to the value of its coastal access and notably by the reactivation of its ports, this one cannot be achieved without a territorial strategy which pricniples are necessary based on society choices.

    Subduction of a narrow slab of oceanic lithosphere beneath a tightly curved orogenic arc requires the presence of at least one lithospheric scale tear fault. While the Calabrian subduction beneath southern Italy is considered to be the type example of this geodynamic setting, the geometry, kinematics and surface expression of the associated lateral, slab tear fault offshore eastern Sicily remain controversial. Results from a new marine geophysical survey conducted in the Ionian Sea, using high-resolution bathymetry and seismic profiling reveal active faulting at the seafloor within a 140 km long, two-branched fault system near Alfeo Seamount. The previously unidentified 60 km long NW trending North Alfeo Fault system shows primarily strike-slip kinematics as indicated by the morphology and steep-dipping transpressional and transtensional faults. Available earthquake focal mechanisms indicate dextral strike-slip motion along this fault segment. The 80 km long SSE trending South Alfeo fault system is expressed by one or two steeply dipping normal faults, bounding the western side of a 500+ m thick, 5 km wide, elongate, syntectonic Plio-Quaternary sedimentary basin. Both branches of the fault system are mechanically capable of generating magnitude 6–7 earthquakes like those that struck eastern Sicily in 1169, 1542, and 1693. peer-reviewed

    Sustainable manufacturing technologies are the new challenge faced by enterprises, industries, and researchers. The development of a sustainability-based assessment method considering the environmental and economic impacts is crucial to realize viable manufacturing. However, few studies have addressed environmental economics and social flows using a common perspective. Mechanical machining is one of the most-used manufacturing techniques. The overall ecological, economic, and social footprint requires accurate and effective estimation and optimization. Several studies have addressed this issue by examining the entire process of machining, but sustainability flows for machining parameters and toolpaths have remained relatively unexplored. The lack of systematic assistance tools bridging the gap between decision-maker preferences and the three sustainability pillars—economic, social, and environmental—has impeded the widespread adoption of sustainable machining practices. To this end, this paper proposes an integrated approach to the decision-making problem that combines the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) with the Preference Ranking Organization Method for Enrichment Evaluations (PROMETHEE) for selecting a sustainable machining strategy. The sustainability criteria are driven by manufacturing process parameters commonly employed and regulated during the manufacturing phase. This includes toolpath strategies as a qualitative input factor and manufacturing parameters such as cutting speed, feed rate, depth of cut, and stepover as quantitative input factors, affirming the practical applicability of the method in industrial contexts. New fundamental methods are also presented for selecting the most efficient machining parameters and toolpaths according to the weights assigned to each ecological, social, and economic footprint by the decision-maker (the manufacturer or production manager). In this way, sustainable machining strategies in the manufacturing industry will be strengthened in integrity. In a case study of part-end milling, both manufacturing parameters and toolpath strategies are considered to establish sustainable feature-based machining decisions.

    ABSTRACTIn civil engineering, ground‐penetrating radar is widely used for road pavement surveys. In contrast to the existing literature, this paper takes account of the influence of interface roughness (surface and interlayer roughness) within the scope of data processing of radar signals. The rigorous electromagnetic method PILE (Propagation Inside Layer Expansion) provides simulated data that show the influence of the interface roughness on the backscattered primary echoes of stratified media; the interface roughness provides a continuous frequency decay of the magnitude of the echoes. The observed frequency variations of the radar magnitude introduce some shape distortion on the radar waveform. The latter variations can be modelled by an exponential function, which provides satisfactory results for a narrow bandwidth (2 GHz). An adaptation of the root‐MUSIC algorithm is proposed. As a result, it is possible to jointly estimate the time delay and the interface roughness. The algorithm is tested on data simulated by the PILE method and numerical examples are provided to assess the performance of this algorithm. The associated results show that the proposed algorithm can estimate both the time delay and roughness parameters with a small relative error.

    International audience; In this paper, we address a green delivery-pickup problem for Home Hemodialysis Machines (HHMs) categorized as scarce commodities. The system supplies the HHMs either from the central depot of the company or from the individual owners. Based on the sharing economy concept, the individuals who own the HHM devices can involve in this home health care system and share them with others through the fleet of the company to make money. After delivery of portable HHM devices to the clients (patients), they will be collected, disinfected and reallocated to fulfill the demands of the other customers. Moreover, respecting the environmental concerns, the vehicles’ fuel consumption and consequently the GHG emissions are realistically assumed as a function of the vehicles’ load, such that the company and especially the individual owners contribute to reducing GHG emissions, in addition to the primary economic motivations. Current research provides a bi-objective mixed-integer linear programming model which seeks minimizing total system cost and total carbon emissions. In order to solve the problem, Torabi and Hassini’s (TH) technique is applied and then a multi-objective meta-heuristic algorithm, self-learning non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (SNSGA-II), is developed for medium- and large-sized problems. Finally, the application of the problem is investigated by a real case study from the healthcare sector. Numerical analyses indicate that the proposed green sharing-enabled model has a meaningful impact on both operational-level logistics determinations as well as the environmental important attainment indicators. As notable savings are guaranteed in terms of total system cost and emission, the proposed model has a great potential to provide the item sharing activities with a proper sustainable solution.
