To the best of our knowledge, this work presents the first protocol that allows one of the parties to delegate PSI-CA computation to untrusted servers. At the heart of our delegated PSI-CA protocol is a new oblivious distributed key PRF (Odk-PRF) abstraction, which may be of independent interest.

The field of energy forecasting has attracted many researchers from different fields (e.g., meteorology, data sciences, mechanical or electrical engineering) over the last decade. Solar forecasting is a fast-growing subdomain of energy forecasting. Despite several previous attempts, the methods and measures used for verification of deterministic (also known as single-valued or point) solar forecasts are still far from being standardized, making forecast analysis and comparison difficult. To analyze and compare solar forecasts, the well-established Murphy–Winkler framework for distribution-oriented forecast verification is recommended as a standard practice. This framework examines aspects of forecast quality, such as reliability, resolution, association, or discrimination, and analyzes the joint distribution of forecasts and observations, which contains all time-independent information relevant to verification. To verify forecasts, one can use any graphical display or mathematical/statistical measure to provide insights and summarize the aspects of forecast quality. The majority of graphical methods and accuracy measures known to solar forecasters are specific methods under this general framework. Additionally, measuring the overall skillfulness of forecasters is also of general interest. The use of the root mean square error (RMSE) skill score based on the optimal convex combination of climatology and persistence methods is highly recommended. By standardizing the accuracy measure and reference forecasting method, the RMSE skill score allows—with appropriate caveats—comparison of forecasts made using different models, across different locations and time periods. Electroencephalography (EEG) can assist with the accurate diagnosis of depression. In this paper, we present two different hybrid deep learning models for classification and assessment of patient suffering with depression. We have combined convolutional neural network with Gated recurrent units (RGUs), thus the proposed network is shallow and much smaller in size in comparison to its counter LSTM network. In addition to this, proposed approach is less sensitive to parameter settings. Extensive experiments on EEG dataset shows that the proposed hybrid model achieve highest accuracy, f1 score 99.66%, 99.93% and 98.87%, 99.12% for eye open and eye close dataset respectively in comparison to state of the art methods. Based on high performance, the proposed hybrid approach can be used for assessment of depression for clinical applications and can deployed remotely in hospital or private clinics for clinical evaluation.

However, the flexibility of IaaS clouds presents unique challenges for storage and data management in these environments. Users use manual and/or ad-hoc methods to manage storage selection, storage configuration and data management in these environments. We address these challenges via a novel storage and data life cycle management through FRIEDA (Flexible Robust Intelligent Elastic Data Management), an application specific storage and data management framework for composable infrastructure environments.

The accuracy of ASI based solar irradiance nowcasting systems depends on various processing steps. Two vital steps are the cloud height detection and cloud tracking. This task is challenging, due to the atmospheric conditions that are often complex, including various cloud layers moving in different directions simultaneously.This challenge is addressed by detecting and tracking individual clouds. For this, we developed two distinct ASI nowcasting approaches with four or two cameras and a third hybridized approach. These three systems create individual 3-D cloud models with unique attributes including height, position, size, optical properties and motion. This enables us to describe complex multi-layer conditions.In this paper, derived cloud height and motion vectors are compared with a reference ceilometer (height) and shadow camera system (motion) over a 30 day validation period. The validation data set includes a wide range of cloud heights, cloud motion patterns and atmospheric conditions. Furthermore, limitations of ASI based nowcasting systems due to image resolution and image perspective constrains are discussed.The most promising system is found to be the hybridized approach. This approach uses four ASIs and a voxel carving based cloud modeling combined with a cloud segmentation independent stereoscopic cloud height and tracking detection. We observed for this approach an overall mean absolute error of 648 m for the height, 1.3 m/s for the cloud speed and 16.2° for the motion direction.

Such modulations are proposed in response to demands for increasing the number of connected users. SCMA is a non-orthogonal multiple access technique that offers improved Bit Error Rate (BER) performance and higher spectral efficiency than other comparable techniques, but these improvements come at the cost of complex decoders. There are many challenges in designing near-optimum high throughput SCMA decoders. This paper explores means to enhance the performance of SCMA decoders. To achieve this goal, various improvements to the MPA algorithms are proposed. They notably aim at adapting SCMA decoding to the Single Instruction Multiple Data (SIMD) paradigm. An approximate modeling of noise is performed to reduce the complexity of floating-point calculations. The effects of Forward Error Corrections (FEC) such as polar, turbo and LDPC codes, as well as different ways of accessing memory and improving power efficiency of modified MPAs are investigated. The results show that the throughput of a SCMA decoder can be increased by 3.1 to 21 times when compared to the original MPA on different computing platforms using the suggested improvements.

The goal of this paper is to evaluate the possibility of using unobtrusively collected activity-aware smart home behavior data to detect the multimodal symptoms that are often found to be impaired in AD. After gathering longitudinal smart home data for 29 older adults over an average duration of $>$ 2 years, we automatically labeled the data with corresponding activity classes and extracted time-series statistics containing ten behavioral features. Mobility, cognition, and mood were evaluated every six months. Using these data, we created regression models to predict symptoms as measured by the tests and a feature selection analysis was performed. Classification models were built to detect reliable absolute changes in the scores predicting symptoms and SmoteBOOST and wRACOG algorithms were used to overcome class imbalance where needed. Results show that all mobility, cognition, and depression symptoms can be predicted from activity-aware smart home data. Similarly, these data can be effectively used to predict reliable changes in mobility and memory skills. Results also suggest that not all behavioral features contribute equally to the prediction of every symptom. Future work therefore can improve model sensitivity by including additional longitudinal data and by further improving strategies to extract relevant features and address class imbalance. The results presented herein contribute toward the development of an early change detection system based on smart home technology.

The novelty of our approach is that we circumvent this issue by focusing on areas of least change in parts of the scene that should be occluded by the foreground. Through experimentation on realistic datasets, we show that this approach results in better detection and localization of removed objects. This technique can be paired with an insertion detection algorithm to provide a complete change detection framework. therefore, hybrid approaches have been developed: An updated world model can be inferred from an offline acquisition of the 3D world, which is then updated online using live image sequences under the condition of developing fast and robust change detection algorithms. Current algorithms are biased toward object insertion and often fail in object removal detection Precise knowledge of the real environment is a prerequisite for the integration of the real and virtual worlds in mixed-reality applications. In this study, ammonia/methane mixtures were considered for premixed and non-premixed counterflow flames. The extinction stretch rate was measured over a wide range of ammonia/methane mixing ratios and compared to 1D numerical results from four different mechanisms. Additionally, for counterflow premixed twin flames, quantitative analysis based on the comparison of experimental and numerical FWHM of OH and NO profiles was performed. Results showed that in premixed flames, all the mechanisms investigated were inadequate for predicting the extinction stretch rate, specifically for lean flames. In non-premixed flames, Okafor’s mechanism was accurately predicting the extinction stretch rate. For the FWHM analysis, the numerical mechanisms overpredicted both OH and NO apparition in the flame, except for Tian’s mechanism which underpredicted OH apparition. GRI Mech 3.0 performed well for small quantities of ammonia but failed to reproduce the pure ammonia case. Okafor’s and UCSD mechanisms gave better predictions of experimental trends, though overestimated both OH and NO apparition. In the FWHM analysis of both OH and NO, the lower R2 values in the lean region suggest that the lean region should be the focus for mechanism improvement.

In this paper, we exploit the 16 channels available in the 2.4 GHz international band of ZIGBEE, and propose a distributed scheme that avoids interference through predictable channel hopping based on Latin rectangles, namely, CHIM. In the proposed CHIM scheme, each WBAN's coordinator picks a Latin rectangle whose rows are ZIGBEE channels and columns are sensor IDs. Based on the Latin rectangle of the individual WBAN, each sensor is allocated a backup time-slot and a channel to use if it experiences interference such that collisions among different transmissions of coexisting WBANs are minimized. We further present a mathematical analysis that derives the collision probability of each sensor's transmission in the network. In addition, the efficiency of CHIM in terms of transmission delay and energy consumption minimization are validated by simulations. The field of energy forecasting has attracted many researchers from different fields (e.g., meteorology, data sciences, mechanical or electrical engineering) over the last decade. Solar forecasting is a fast-growing subdomain of energy forecasting. Despite several previous attempts, the methods and measures used for verification of deterministic (also known as single-valued or point) solar forecasts are still far from being standardized, making forecast analysis and comparison difficult. To analyze and compare solar forecasts, the well-established Murphy–Winkler framework for distribution-oriented forecast verification is recommended as a standard practice. This framework examines aspects of forecast quality, such as reliability, resolution, association, or discrimination, and analyzes the joint distribution of forecasts and observations, which contains all time-independent information relevant to verification. To verify forecasts, one can use any graphical display or mathematical/statistical measure to provide insights and summarize the aspects of forecast quality. The majority of graphical methods and accuracy measures known to solar forecasters are specific methods under this general framework. Additionally, measuring the overall skillfulness of forecasters is also of general interest. The use of the root mean square error (RMSE) skill score based on the optimal convex combination of climatology and persistence methods is highly recommended. By standardizing the accuracy measure and reference forecasting method, the RMSE skill score allows—with appropriate caveats—comparison of forecasts made using different models, across different locations and time periods. Electroencephalography (EEG) can assist with the accurate diagnosis of depression. In this paper, we present two different hybrid deep learning models for classification and assessment of patient suffering with depression. We have combined convolutional neural network with Gated recurrent units (RGUs), thus the proposed network is shallow and much smaller in size in comparison to its counter LSTM network. In addition to this, proposed approach is less sensitive to parameter settings. Extensive experiments on EEG dataset shows that the proposed hybrid model achieve highest accuracy, f1 score 99.66%, 99.93% and 98.87%, 99.12% for eye open and eye close dataset respectively in comparison to state of the art methods. Based on high performance, the proposed hybrid approach can be used for assessment of depression for clinical applications and can deployed remotely in hospital or private clinics for clinical evaluation.

The accuracy of ASI based solar irradiance nowcasting systems depends on various processing steps. Two vital steps are the cloud height detection and cloud tracking. This task is challenging, due to the atmospheric conditions that are often complex, including various cloud layers moving in different directions simultaneously.This challenge is addressed by detecting and tracking individual clouds. For this, we developed two distinct ASI nowcasting approaches with four or two cameras and a third hybridized approach. These three systems create individual 3-D cloud models with unique attributes including height, position, size, optical properties and motion. This enables us to describe complex multi-layer conditions.In this paper, derived cloud height and motion vectors are compared with a reference ceilometer (height) and shadow camera system (motion) over a 30 day validation period. The validation data set includes a wide range of cloud heights, cloud motion patterns and atmospheric conditions. Furthermore, limitations of ASI based nowcasting systems due to image resolution and image perspective constrains are discussed.The most promising system is found to be the hybridized approach. This approach uses four ASIs and a voxel carving based cloud modeling combined with a cloud segmentation independent stereoscopic cloud height and tracking detection. We observed for this approach an overall mean absolute error of 648 m for the height, 1.3 m/s for the cloud speed and 16.2° for the motion direction.

SCMA is a non-orthogonal multiple access technique that offers improved Bit Error Rate (BER) performance and higher spectral efficiency than other comparable techniques, but these improvements come at the cost of complex decoders. There are many challenges in designing near-optimum high throughput SCMA decoders. This paper explores means to enhance the performance of SCMA decoders. To achieve this goal, various improvements to the MPA algorithms are proposed. They notably aim at adapting SCMA decoding to the Single Instruction Multiple Data (SIMD) paradigm. An approximate modeling of noise is performed to reduce the complexity of floating-point calculations. The effects of Forward Error Corrections (FEC) such as polar, turbo and LDPC codes, as well as different ways of accessing memory and improving power efficiency of modified MPAs are investigated. The results show that the throughput of a SCMA decoder can be increased by 3.1 to 21 times when compared to the original MPA on different computing platforms using the suggested improvements.

The goal of this paper is to evaluate the possibility of using unobtrusively collected activity-aware smart home behavior data to detect the multimodal symptoms that are often found to be impaired in AD. After gathering longitudinal smart home data for 29 older adults over an average duration of $>$ 2 years, we automatically labeled the data with corresponding activity classes and extracted time-series statistics containing ten behavioral features. Mobility, cognition, and mood were evaluated every six months. Using these data, we created regression models to predict symptoms as measured by the tests and a feature selection analysis was performed. Classification models were built to detect reliable absolute changes in the scores predicting symptoms and SmoteBOOST and wRACOG algorithms were used to overcome class imbalance where needed. Results show that all mobility, cognition, and depression symptoms can be predicted from activity-aware smart home data. Similarly, these data can be effectively used to predict reliable changes in mobility and memory skills. Results also suggest that not all behavioral features contribute equally to the prediction of every symptom. Future work therefore can improve model sensitivity by including additional longitudinal data and by further improving strategies to extract relevant features and address class imbalance. The results presented herein contribute toward the development of an early change detection system based on smart home technology.

The novelty of our approach is that we circumvent this issue by focusing on areas of least change in parts of the scene that should be occluded by the foreground. Through experimentation on realistic datasets, we show that this approach results in better detection and localization of removed objects. This technique can be paired with an insertion detection algorithm to provide a complete change detection framework. therefore, hybrid approaches have been developed: An updated world model can be inferred from an offline acquisition of the 3D world, which is then updated online using live image sequences under the condition of developing fast and robust change detection algorithms. Current algorithms are biased toward object insertion and often fail in object removal detection Precise knowledge of the real environment is a prerequisite for the integration of the real and virtual worlds in mixed-reality applications. In this study, ammonia/methane mixtures were considered for premixed and non-premixed counterflow flames. The extinction stretch rate was measured over a wide range of ammonia/methane mixing ratios and compared to 1D numerical results from four different mechanisms. Additionally, for counterflow premixed twin flames, quantitative analysis based on the comparison of experimental and numerical FWHM of OH and NO profiles was performed. Results showed that in premixed flames, all the mechanisms investigated were inadequate for predicting the extinction stretch rate, specifically for lean flames. In non-premixed flames, Okafor’s mechanism was accurately predicting the extinction stretch rate. For the FWHM analysis, the numerical mechanisms overpredicted both OH and NO apparition in the flame, except for Tian’s mechanism which underpredicted OH apparition. GRI Mech 3.0 performed well for small quantities of ammonia but failed to reproduce the pure ammonia case. Okafor’s and UCSD mechanisms gave better predictions of experimental trends, though overestimated both OH and NO apparition. In the FWHM analysis of both OH and NO, the lower R2 values in the lean region suggest that the lean region should be the focus for mechanism improvement.

In this paper, we exploit the 16 channels available in the 2.4 GHz international band of ZIGBEE, and propose a distributed scheme that avoids interference through predictable channel hopping based on Latin rectangles, namely, CHIM. In the proposed CHIM scheme, each WBAN's coordinator picks a Latin rectangle whose rows are ZIGBEE channels and columns are sensor IDs. Based on the Latin rectangle of the individual WBAN, each sensor is allocated a backup time-slot and a channel to use if it experiences interference such that collisions among different transmissions of coexisting WBANs are minimized. We further present a mathematical analysis that derives the collision probability of each sensor's transmission in the network. In addition, the efficiency of CHIM in terms of transmission delay and energy consumption minimization are validated by simulations.
