    Print ISBN: 978-3-319-91478-7Electronic ISBN: 978-3-319-91479-4; International audience; Maintaining the level of integrity of pipeline networks to guarantee at least a reliable and safe service is a challenge operators of such networks are facing everyday. TIGF is one of the French operator which manages 5000 km of pipelines in the south-west quarter of France. This paper presents a decision-making tool which automatically ranks the pipeline sections regarding the risk of deterioration (damages and corrosion) and the gravity of the consequences, indicating which pipeline sections should be excavated. The tool relies on a fuzzy expert system which gathers 26 input variables, processes more than 300 rules, classifies the risk of deterioration into 7 classes and estimates the gravity. The rules are a formalization of human expertise: the fuzzy logic helps to tackle the vagueness of their knowledge and the measurement inaccuracy of some of the 26 input variables. The method has been tested on past excavations to assess its performances.

    Authors: Petrolo, Riccardo; Loscrì, Valeria; Mitton, Nathalie;

    The continuous growth of the urban population has generated a drastic expansion of our cities. Nowadays, indeed, more than 50 % of the world’s population is urban, and they forecast that it will reach 70 % by 2050. Therefore, cities need to be ready to accommodate this huge amount of citizens and to face new challenges (e.g., traffic congestion, air pollution, waste management, etc.). The concept of cyber-physical systems, as integration of computation and physical processes, can help toward the realization of real smart cities capable to ensure sustainability and efficiency. To this purpose, this chapter investigates the cyber-physical system (CPS) and their cyber-physical object (CPO) as key units, in the context of a smart city concept. We survey the smart city vision, providing information on the main requirements, the open challenges, and highlighting the benefits; we also browse the European Commission initiatives for smart cities and some pilot projects that are in development.

    Authors: Jarry, Gabriel; Delahaye, Daniel; Couellan, Nicolas;

    International audience; Aircraft approach flight path safety management provides procedures that guide the aircraft to intercept the final approach axis and runway slope before landing. In order to detect atypical behavior, this paper explores the use of data generative models to learn real approach flight path probability distributions and identify flights that do not follow these distributions. Through the use of Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN), a GAN is first trained to learn real flight paths, generating new flights from learned distributions. Experiments show that the new generated flights follow realistic patterns. Unlike trajectories generated by physical models, the proposed technique, only based on past flight data, is able to account for external factors such as Air Traffic Control (ATC) orders, pilot behavior or meteorological phenomena. Next, the trained GAN is used to identify abnormal trajectories and compare the results with a clustering technique combined with a functional principal component analysis. The results show that reported non compliant trajectories are relevant.

    Inland navigation networks are composed of several artificial canals, usually characterized by no slope. These canals are large-scale systems that can be accurately described by means of the nonlinear Saint-Venant partial differential equations. However, the lack of an analytical solution for these equations is one of the reasons why simplified models have been developed. In this work, the Integrator-Delay-Zero model is used as the input-output model to link the water depths to the discharges. A modeling extension for a canal with inflows and outflows along the water stream is proposed: an overlapping problem is discussed and a criterion choice is defined in order to obtain the general model. With regard to this criterion, a calibration step is needed, both to overcome the natural limitations of the simplified model and to ensure the correct computation of the general model. The application of this modeling approach to a part of the inland navigation network in the north of France serves as the case study for this work. Les voies navigables sont des réseaux de grandes tailles composés de plusieurs rivières canalisées mais également de canaux artificiels. Ces canaux, délimités par des écluses en amont et en aval, sont souvent caractérisés par l'absence de pente. Ils sont donc particulièrement sujets à des phénomènes de résonance qui se caractérisent par l'apparition de vagues de grandes amplitudes provoquées par l'activation des écluses. Pour modéliser ces phénomènes, il est possible d'utiliser les équations de Saint Venant (Chow, 1959). Cependant, leur utilisation pour la conception de lois de commande ou de stratégies de diagnostic des ouvrages reste difficile par la nature même du système considéré. Une alternative consiste en la conception de modèles simplifiés tels que le modèle IDZ (Integrator-Delay-Zero) proposé dans la littérature (Litrico & Fromion, 2004). Il s'agit d'un modèle permettant de reproduire la dynamique entrée-sortie des canaux en prédisant l'effet des débits en amont et en aval du canal étudié sur ses hauteurs d'eau mesurées aux mêmes endroits. Dans cet article, une extension de ce modèle est proposée avec l'objectif de pouvoir prendre en compte plusieurs entrées et sorties situées le long d'un même canal. La méthode permettant l'identification des paramètres du modèle IDZ conduit alors à des redondances de calcul. Ce problème est mis en évidence et discuté, puis une solution basée sur un critère de sélection des paramètres est proposée. Dans un deuxième temps, afin de pouvoir reproduire au mieux la dynamique réelle des canaux de navigation sans pente, en particulier la forte amplitude du premier pic de résonance, une phase de calage du modèle est présentée. Elle consiste à introduire deux coefficients conduisant à une modification légère des valeurs du Zéro et de l'Intégrateur du modèle en tenant compte des sorties du modèle et des mesures disponibles. Le bief de voies navigables Cuinchy-Fontinettes situé dans les Hauts-de-France permet d'illustrer cette démarche, puisqu'il a la particularité de pouvoir être alimenté par l'intermédiaire d'une vanne située environ au centre du bief. Les performances du modèle proposé sont illustrées en reproduisant par simulation un scénario de fonctionnement réel Peer Reviewed

    International audience; Electric or hybrid vehicles are very silent, which represents a major advantage for the reduction of noise annoyance in urban areas. But this makes them dangerous for pedestrians, especially vulnerable ones as visually-impaired people. Current solutions consist in using warning sound so that the exterior noise of an electric vehicle is as high as for a conventional one. This may cancel the benefit of electric vehicles for the reduction of sound annoyance. The eVADER project (funded by the European Commission) aims at proposing a prototype car which combines a high safety and a low noise level. A part of the the work program consisted in perceptual studies. The goal of these studies was to evaluate the influence of various timbre parameters on the detectability and the unpleasantness of a warning sound. Results show that it is possible to make an electric vehicle easily detected while keeping its sound level much lower than the one of a conventional car.

    http://www.ashgate.com/default.aspx?page=637&calcTitle=1&title_id=9422&edition_id=12022; The interaction between port activities and regional development has caught the attention of various scholars and decision-makers worldwide. However, without a clear definition of the port region, confusion remains between a group of neighboring ports (e.g. façade, range) or an inland service area of a given port (e.g. hinterland). Considering the socio-economic characteristics of regional units around ports is proposed as a possible solution for international comparison. Main results show that in developed countries, specialization in the industrial sector has a negative impact on port performance, while unemployment, GDP, and service concentrations have a positive influence on traffic. This confirms the effects of globalization on port regions

    International audience; Incident reporting is a very well-known technique in application domains such as air traffic management and health, where specialized users are trained to provide detailed information about problems. Incident reporting systems are indeed complex systems that include many actors including the users reporting incidents, user’s colleagues and neighbors, stakeholders, policymakers, systems integrations. Incident report systems might change (positively or negatively) the users’ environment in many ways. In recent years, this kind of technique has been also been used in crisis management such as the hurricane Katrina. However, despite the fact that incident reporting systems using mobile technology are becoming more common, little is known about its actual use by the general population and which factors affect the user experience when using such system. In this paper we discuss the use of incident reporting system in critical context of use. In this paper we discuss the use of incident reporting system in several application domains. In particular we report findings in terms of dimensions that are aimed to identify social and technical aspects that can affect the design, development and use of incident reporting systems.

    International audience; The supervision of automated systems is an interesting field for the human engineer, since humans play a fundamental role that is dependent on the level of automation. This chapter sets itself in this frame and presents different research, the main objective of which is to assist human operators with the introduction of tools automating part of their activities. It presents the technical means necessary for sustaining the cooperative activities between a human operator and a technical system. In this regard, the idea of a common work space (CWS) has been developed. The chapter also presents two different applications, each with different levels of automation. The first involves air traffic control, a process with a low level of automation. The second is a process of high-level automation: the reprocessing of nuclear combustibles. The main idea in this case is to favor active detection by the establishment of a debative human-machine cooperation.

    C'est à travers le prisme de l'accessibilité et des réseaux de transports aériens de l'Est de la France qu'a été abordée la question du devenir du polycentrisme urbain, dans un espace que le jeu des frontières nationales a façonné dans le temps long. Désormais traversées par les multiples réseaux, ces frontières sont vouées à l'effacement. Les réseaux sont en effet généralement considérés comme des effaceurs de frontières alors qu'à l'inverse, ces dernières sont généralement considérées comme des barrières destinées à empêcher l'accès, à faire obstacle aux passages et aux circulations.

    Authors: Petrolo, Riccardo; Loscrì, Valeria; Mitton, Nathalie;

    Présentation du contexte et de l’objet d’étude La contribution à Wikipédia suppose un certain apprentissage. Il faut apprendre le wikicode, ainsi que les rudiments de ce qui permet de structurer la connaissance sur ces projets en ligne. Bien sûr le champ d’apprentissage ne se limite pas à ces deux aspects. Il est sans doute intéressant d’apprendre d’autres aspects du fonctionnement du projet, les différents rôles qui maintiennent l’encyclopédie Wikipédia, le projet Wikimédia le plus connu, ou...
