description Publicationkeyboard_double_arrow_right Part of book or chapter of book 2020Publisher:Springer International Publishing Authors: Qayyum, Abdul; Razzak, Imran; Mumtaz, Wajid;Qayyum, Abdul; Razzak, Imran; Mumtaz, Wajid;Depression is a mental health disorder characterised by persistently depressed mood or loss of interest in activities resulting impairment in daily life significantly. Electroencephalography (EEG) can assist with the accurate diagnosis of depression. In this paper, we present two different hybrid deep learning models for classification and assessment of patient suffering with depression. We have combined convolutional neural network with Gated recurrent units (RGUs), thus the proposed network is shallow and much smaller in size in comparison to its counter LSTM network. In addition to this, proposed approach is less sensitive to parameter settings. Extensive experiments on EEG dataset shows that the proposed hybrid model achieve highest accuracy, f1 score 99.66%, 99.93% and 98.87%, 99.12% for eye open and eye close dataset respectively in comparison to state of the art methods. Based on high performance, the proposed hybrid approach can be used for assessment of depression for clinical applications and can deployed remotely in hospital or private clinics for clinical evaluation.

The corrosion rate of this alloy shows indeed a great acceleration at high burn-up in Light Water Reactors. Understanding the corrosion behavior under irradiation for this alloy is an important technological issue for the safety and efficiency of LWRs. In particular, understanding the effect of irradiation on the metal and the oxide layers is a key parameter in the study of corrosion behavior of zirconium alloys. Zircaloy-4 samples have undergone helium and proton ion-irradiation up to 0.3 dpa forming a uniform defect distribution up to 1 µm deep. Both as-received and pre-corroded samples have been irradiated in order to compare the effect of metal irradiation to that of oxide layer irradiation. After irradiation, samples have been corroded in order to study the impact of irradiation defects in the metal and in pre-existing oxide layers on the formation of new oxide layers. Synchrotron X-ray micro-diffraction and micro-fluorescence are used to follow the evolution of oxide crystallographic phases, texture and stoichiometry both in the metal and in the oxide in cross-section. In particular, the tetragonal oxide phase fraction, which has been known to have an important role on corrosion behavior, is mapped in both unirradiated and irradiated metal at the sub-micron scale and appears to be significantly affected by irradiation. These observations, complemented with electron microscopy analyses on samples in carefully chosen areas of interest are combined in order to fully characterize changes due to irradiation in metal and oxide phases of both alloys.

Developing PPCD Handling Environments – Authoring and Workflow Participant Access – for creating and accessing PPCD documents posed many new challenges: composition retention, secure access and management of multi-formatted, encrypted data on laptops and potentially low capability devices. The paper describes the use of OLE Automation, Add-Ons and System Call Interception technique to preserve the overall document composition, while the handling of individual parts is delegated to external tools, native for individual document formats.

(Sébastien);Merkel, S. (Sébastien);International audience; Understanding mechanical properties and their microscopic origins is fundamental for multiple fields in condensed matter research. They are controlled by defects, dislocations, diffusion, as well as microstructures, which are not trivial to study under extreme conditions. This chapter summarizes the last 25 years of advances in high pressure devices, x-ray measurements, and data interpretation capabilities for addressing the deformation and plasticity of materials under extreme conditions, from experiments in large volume presses or diamond anvil cells, texture and stress analysis in powder x-ray diffraction, multi-grain crystallography, to self consistent models of materials behavior. Examples of applications are then provided in the fields of geophysics and materials science along with perspectives for studies of plastic deformation under extreme conditions in the coming years.

Molecular epidemiology studies have illuminated the population structure of T. gondii strains world-wide and enabled insights into how the parasite is transmitted and the frequency of genetic exchange. Toxoplasma population genetics studies have shown that in North America and Europe, three genotypes have predominated whereas other diverse genotypes have propagated in other parts of the world, particularly in Central and South America. This chapter summarizes the techniques used to understand the population structure of T. gondii and how these techniques have also been helpful in understanding outbreaks of toxoplasmosis. As technology has advanced, more in-depth studies have facilitated our understanding of how differing genotypes can be linked to biological phenotypes including human disease.

Electroencephalography (EEG) is a technology which records brain activity. We used it to develop a novel brain-computer interface that monitors users' states in order to reduce visual strain. We present the first proof-of-concept system that discriminates comfortable conditions from uncomfortable ones during stereoscopic vision using EEG. It reacts within 1s to depth variations, achieving 63% accuracy on average and 74% when 7 consecutive variations are measured. This study could lead to adaptive systems that automatically suit stereoscopic displays to users and viewing conditions. Comment: INTERACT, Sep 2015, Bamberg, Germany

However the creation and development of these orchestras remain constrained. In fact, each new musical collaboration system or orchestra piece relies on a fixed number of musicians, a fixed set of instruments (often only one), and a fixed subset of possible modes of collaboration. In this paper, we describe a unified framework that enables the design of Digital Orchestras with potentially different DMIs and an expand-able set of collaboration modes. It relies on research done on analysis and classification of traditional and digital orchestras, on research in Collaborative Virtual Environments, and on interviews of musicians and composers. The BOEUF framework consists of a classification of modes of collaboration and a set of components for modelling digital orchestras. Integrating this framework into DMIs will enable advanced musical collaboration modes to be used in any digital orchestra, including spontaneous jam sessions.

Etudes & documents; This study documents the implications of financial vulnerability for export diversification in developing economies. Financial crises, by increasing the incidence of sunk costs of entry into exporting, reduce firm export dynamics. Financially-vulnerable exporters are not able to fully realize economies of scale in production and access better-sophisticated technologies. The number of products and destinations per exporter are therefore likely to decrease in times of crisis. We use a comprehensive cross-country dataset on export dynamics, with data covering the 1997-2011 period for 34 developing countries to investigate this issue. Building on the generalized difference-in-differences procedure proposed by Rajan & Zingales (1998) to remove any endogeneity bias, the results point to a negative and economically large effect of financial vulnerability on export diversification.Financial crises reduce export dynamics disproportionately more in financially dependent industries. This effect is less pronounced in countries with initially more open capital account, suggesting that portfolio inflows are good substitutes for underdeveloped domestic financial markets.
