Part 1: Regular Papers; International audience; Today’s enterprises face the need to develop user-specific solutions due to the disruptive technologies and competition in the market. Intangibility of services and service-orientation fosters creation of flexible solutions by innovating business models, service processes and service products. Capabilities are perceived as measuring indicator of service orientation in enterprises and one requirement for business model innovation. This paper investigates how design of capabilities can help enterprises to offer novel services. To do so, we analyze the degree of innovation before and after applying the capability-driven development (CDD), which is a methodological and technological enterprise modelling approach. Based on observations from two industrial cases affected from the main forces that disturb the business terrain, the paper concludes that CDD helps enterprises to innovate their digital services by causing changes mainly on business model and service process levels.

Part 7: Design Rationale and Camera-Control; International audience; Interaction design processes are characterised by multi-disciplinary teamwork and by an interplay of creative, situated and analytical thinking. Although design in the domain of human-computer interaction has been widely investigated, the focus of research has been mainly on the user’s role and several authors refer to the need for a deeper understanding of the increasingly complex interaction design processes. This paper suggests a conceptual framework for interaction design that accommodates and unifies different perspectives from general design research while considering the specificities of the domain. Within the framework, description and analysis is done through the lens of design spaces, design artefacts, and refinement relationships between design artefacts. The framework extends existing concepts of design spaces by introducing complex spaces which acknowledge that design is rarely an individual activity but is more often undertaken by teams of designers. The framework also offers a distinction between design options into alternatives and variants to better describe and guide processes of idea generation and a convergence within, and between different sub-spaces and sub-teams. Different types of refinement between design artefacts are also discussed.

[Departement_IRSTEA]Territoires [ADD1_IRSTEA]Dynamique et fonctionnement des écosystèmesChapter 1; International audience; The Green Revolution and the introduction of chemical fertilizers, synthetic pesticides and high yield crops had enabled to increase food production in the mid and late 20th. The benefits of this agricultural intensification have however reached their limits since yields are no longer increasing for many crops, negative externalities on the environment and human health are now recognized and economic inequality between farmers have increased. Agroecology has been proposed to secure food supply with fewer or lower negative environmental and social impacts than intensive agriculture. Agroecology principles are based on the recognition that biodiversity in agroecosystems can provide more than only food, fibre and timber. Hence, biodiversity and its associated functions, such as pollination, pest control, and mechanisms that maintain or improve soil fertility, may improve production efficiency and sustainability of agroecosystems. Although appealing, promoting ecological-based agricultural production is not straightforward since agroecosystems are socio-ecosystems with complex interactions between the ecological and social systems that act at different spatial and temporal scales. To be operational, agroecology thus requires understanding the relationships between biodiversity, functions and management, as well as to take into account the links between agriculture, ecology and the society. Here we review current knowledge on (i) the effect of landscape context on biodiversity and ecosystem functions and (ii) trophic and non-trophic interactions in ecological networks in agroecosystems. In particular, many insights have been made these two previous decades on (i) the interacting effects of management and landscape characteristics on biodiversity, (ii) the crucial role of plant diversity in delivering multiple services and (iii) the variety of ecological belowground mechanisms determining soil fertility in interaction with aboveground processes. However, we also pinpointed the absence of consensus on the effects of landscape heterogeneity on biodiversity and the need for a better mechanistic understanding of the effects of landscape and agricultural variables on farmland food webs and related services. We end by proposing new research avenues to fill knowledge gaps and implement agroecological principles within operational management strategies.

    Authors: Courboulay, Vincent; Revel, Arnaud;

This work presents an original informational approach to extract visual information, model attention and evaluate the efficiency of the results. Even if the extraction of salient and useful information, i.e. observation, is an elementary task for human and animals, its simulation is still an open problem in computer vision. In this article, we define a process to derive optimal laws to extract visual information without any constraints or a priori. Starting from saliency definition and measure through the prism of information theory, we present a framework in which we develop an ecological inspired approach to model visual information extraction. We demonstrate that our approach provides a fast and highly configurable model, moreover it is as plausible as existing models designed for high biological fidelity. It proposes an adjustable trade-off between nondeterministic attentional behavior and properties of stability, reproducibility and reactiveness. We apply this approach to enhance the performance in an object recognition task. As a conclusion, this article proposes a theoretical framework to derive an optimal model validated by many experimentations.

International audience; We challenge a set of assumptions that are frequently used to model interdomain routing in the Internet by confronting them with routing decisions that are actually taken by ASes, as revealed through publicly available BGP feeds. Our results quantify for the first time the extent to which such assumptions are too simple to model real-world Internet routing policies. This should introduce a note of caution into future work that makes these assumptions and should prompt attempts to find more accurate models.

International audience; Although potentially having a significant influence on indoor air quality (IAQ), interactions between building materials and gaseous contaminants have often been neglected or crudely modelled in IAQ simulation tools. During the past 20 years, empirical source and sink models have progressively given way to physically based models; but confusion still remains on their applicability, as well as on the adequate experimental data to input for the model parameters. Thus, demonstration is first made that models relating macroscopically the room air phase and material concentrations through adsorption and desorption constants are not scientifically sound. Instead, elemental models combining diffusion equations and local sorption equilibria should be used. The compilation of sorption and diffusion data presented in the second part of this chapter underlines the fact that such data cannot be considered independently from the mass transport equations used to fit the measurements. As a result, a thorough analysis of diffusion processes in polymers and porous media is presented in order to define and relate the diffusion coefficients. Finally, the last part of the chapter discusses the way in which existing models could be extended to account for the contributions of temperature, multi-component mixtures, humidity and chemical transformations within materials. Still based on fundamental considerations, the proposed methodology consists of implementing new functionalities to describe the temperature dependence of the model parameters, elemental models representing the interactions between gaseous contaminants and water, as well as kinetic models coming from the fields of atmospheric and surface sciences.

International audience; Dynamic compartments with mutable configurations and variable volumes are of basic interest for the stochastic modeling of biochemistry in cells. We propose a new language to express dynamic compartments that we call the imperative π-calculus. It is obtained from the attributed π-calculus by adding imperative assignment operations to a global store. Previous approaches to dynamic compartments are improved in flexibility or efficiency. This is illustrated by an appropriate model of osmosis and a correct encoding of BioAmbients.

EA SPE GESTAD INRA; International audience; Weeds must be considered in any conceptual framework that seeks to explain, explore and analyse biodiversity if the focus is on human activities and utilisation of natural systems. This chapter concentrates on weeds in annual and perennial crops associated with terrestrial systems used for agricultural purposes: weeds of non-terrestrial or nonagricultural sites are not considered. Genetic diversity within weed species; weed species diversity in the context of conservation; and the particular role of weeds and their seeds for food webs are discussed. The size of seed-based food webs in agroecosystems is largely determined by the amount of energy produced by weed seeds. The chapter describes how aspects of weed biodiversity, besides the conservation of rare species, can be used to induce, guide or evaluate sustainable development in arable production. The local weed species diversity is shaped by both site conditions and arable management adapted to those conditions.

International audience; Comics and manga text recognition are attracting an increasing research and industrial interest. Also, the state of the art text detection and OCR performances is starting to be mature enough to provide automatic text recognition for a variety of comics and manga writing styles. However, comics text layout sometimes prevents usual text line detection to be applied successfully, even within speech bubbles. In this paper, we propose a domain specific text block detection method able to detect single and multiple text block regions inside speech bubbles, in order to enhance OCR transcription and further post-processing.

Moving Object Segmentation (MOS) is an important topic in computer vision. MOS becomes a challenging problem in the presence of dynamic background and moving camera videos such as Pan–Tilt–Zoom cameras (PTZ). The MOS problem has been solved using unsupervised and supervised learning strategies. Recently, new ideas to solve MOS using semi-supervised learning have emerged inspired from the theory of Graph Signal Processing (GSP). These new algorithms are usually composed of several steps including: segmentation, background initialization, features extraction, graph construction, graph signal sampling, and a semi-supervised learning algorithm inspired from reconstruction of graph signals. In this work, we summarize and explain the theoretical foundations as well as the technical details of MOS using GPS. We also propose two architectures for MOS using semi-supervised learning and a new evaluation procedure for GSP-based MOS algorithms. GSP-based algorithms are evaluated in the Change Detection (CDNet2014) dataset for MOS, outperforming numerous State-Of-The-Art (SOTA) methods in several challenging conditions.
