    International audience; Transient scattering of electromagnetic fields by perfect conductors is described by the time domain electric field integral equation (TD-EFIE). Discretizing this equation using a space-time Galerkin method results in a system of equations that can be solved by the marching on in time (MOT) algorithm. Unfortunately, the solution is plagued by spurious static currents (DC instability). In this contribution, a spatial Galerkin discretization is first applied to the TD-EFIE. Then, the discrete loop and star components of both basis and testing functions are separated using projection operators (thus avoiding the construction of a loop-star basis). The loop and star components are then rescaled with respect to each other by differentiating or integrating one of these components. This has the effect of removing the possibility for a DC signal to pollute the solution. A temporal Galerkin method then leads to a system that can be solved by the marching-on-in-time algorithm.

    COM; International audience; Environmental conditions are one of the most important factors that lead to the deterioration of salt contaminated stones or masonry materials. In particular, when environmental conditions such as humidity, exposure to rain or rising damp vary, salts in contact with water (liquid or vapour) can dissolve and cause damage to the material by crystallization upon drying. In this paper this challenging coupled problem is modelled improving the multiphase model developed in [1, 2]. The model - fully coupled, highly non-linear and time dependent - is referred to a Representative Elementary Volume, and takes as primary variables the relative humidity, the temperature, the mass fraction of the dissolved salt and the concentration of precipitated salt. This tool is used to simulate experiments [3] in which sodium chloride contaminated sandstones, put in contact with liquid water and water vapour until complete saturation, are dried at different humidities. The good agreement with experimental evidences proves the effectiveness of the proposed model.

    Authors: Daems, Joke; Chambers, Sally; Verbruggen, Christophe; Zere, Tecle;

    International audience; The digital text platform is part of the Flemish contribution to DARIAH Belgium (DARIAH = Digital Research Infrastructure for the Arts and Humanities). The goal is to create a platform for the collaborative management and discovery of digitised textual collections that allows digital humanities researchers to prepare their corpora (consisting of, for example, digitised newspapers and books) for textual analysis. The platform will enable researchers to browse and search the digitised collections compiled, cleaned, enriched and managed by the researchers themselves. Once the relevant research sub-corpus has been compiled, data export tools, using standardised open formats (such as XML, JSON, .csv, .txt, etc.) will enable researchers to export sub-corpus for analysis with existing digital text analysis tools such as MALLET, (http://mallet.cs.umass.edu/topics.php) for topic modelling, VOYANT (http://voyant-tools.org) for data visualisation or AntConC (http://www.laurenceanthony.net/software/antconc/) for concordance and textual analysis.The platform has been conceived as part of a larger and modular virtual research environment service infrastructure (http://www.ghentcdh.ugent.be/projects/dariah-vl_vre.si). In a previous phase, possible frameworks and content management systems were tested, notably Islandora (a digital asset management system based on Fedora Commons and Drupal), but also Mediawiki and Omeka.One of the main challenges of the envisaged new platform is the possibility to integrate a wider variety of possible textual data streams (including a scan workflow). In addition, user-friendliness, scalability, adherence to standards and facilitating the interoperability of data are key issues to be addressed. The platform will build on the existing IIIF format, the International Image Interoperability Framework. This format is used by some of the most important libraries and cultural heritage institutions in the world, therefore providing access to enormous collections of digital objects. As the name suggests, IIIF is mainly focused on displaying and annotating images. However, we fully endorse the IIIF-community’s vision to develop an overarching interoperability framework for other data types, including all kinds of textual data. Benefits of the format include the interoperability, the ease of sharing images and annotations without the need to exchange files, and its support for multilingual data. In the months leading up to the conference, we will evaluate the existing IIIFpowered digital libraries and research projects and how they deal with practices of co-creation, data cleaning and enrichment of (structural) metadata. OCR improvement will become vital, as digital textual analysis can only be performed well on high-quality textual data. A related challenge will be combining the various input formats and converting them to different output formats required for analysis. In our poster, we will present a summary of our experiences with and technical assessment of our previous Islandora installation, in addition to our survey of the existing corpus management solutions. As a way of conclusion, we will introduce the envisioned new version of the platform.

    Authors: Schel, M.; Kühn, S. ; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-6823-7969; Brass, M.; Haggard, P.; +2 Authors

    People can inhibit an action because of an instruction by an external stimulus, or because of their own internal decision. The similarities and differences between these two forms of inhibition are not well understood. Therefore, in the present study the neural correlates of intentional and stimulus-driven inhibition were tested in the same subjects. Participants performed two inhibition tasks while lying in the scanner: the marble task in which they had to choose for themselves between intentionally acting on, or inhibiting a prepotent response to measure intentional inhibition, and the classical stop signal task in which an external signal triggered the inhibition process. Results showed that intentional inhibition decision processes rely on a neural network that has been documented extensively for stimulus-driven inhibition, including bilateral parietal and lateral prefrontal cortex and pre-supplementary motor area. We also found activation in dorsal frontomedian cortex and left inferior frontal gyrus during intentional inhibition that depended on the history of previous choices. Together, these results indicate that intentional inhibition and stimulus-driven inhibition engage a common inhibition network, but intentional inhibition is also characterized by additional context-dependent neural activation in medial prefrontal cortex.KEYWORDS:action; cognitive control; fMRI; response inhibition; volition

    Authors: Amarouche, Maryame; Bogaert, Koenraad;

    Since the turn of the new century, Morocco seems on the path of an urban revolution with urban mega-projects like Tanger Med, Casablanca Finance City and the Bouregreg project reshaping the skylines of cities like Tangiers, Casablanca and Rabat-Sal. These mega-projects can be situated within a larger process of economic liberalization, structural adjustment, and neoliberal reform. Yet, in contrast to their utopian promises, urban mega-projects do not solve the contemporary urban crisis in the region, but reproduce it in different ways. As such, Moroccan cities play an important role in the transformation of the political economy of the country, not only in terms of the increasing commodification of urban land as a means to extract profits, privatize public wealth and generate growth, but also as urban laboratories for the development of new modalities of government, control, and domination. A paradigmatic case is the Bouregreg project in the valley of Rabat-Sal launched in 2005. The Bouregreg Agency, an autonomous state-agency created to coordinate the project, aims to develop a delineated territory of 6000 hectares in six phases over the next decades. This article compares different phases of the project and investigates new dynamics of state-craft, accumulation by dispossession and the globalization of authoritarian government. More specifically, it looks at the integration of private investors into the political decision-making process and draws attention to the social impact of the project on small-scale farmers and private landowners. The political transformations related to mega-projects are salient examples of how authoritarianism in Morocco has been transformed by the ways in which the interests of ruling domestic elites and (global)economic elites are increasingly intertwined at the cost of those who actually inhabit the Moroccan city.

    It is crucial to determine whether rapid eye movement (REM) sleep and slow-wave sleep (SWS) (or non-REM sleep), identified in most mammals and birds, also exist in lizards, as they share a common ancestor with these groups. Recently, a study in the bearded dragon (P. vitticeps) reported states analogous to REM and SWS alternating in a surprisingly regular 80-s period, suggesting a common origin of the two sleep states across amniotes. We first confirmed these results in the bearded dragon with deep brain recordings and electro-oculogram (EOG) recordings. Then, to confirm a common origin and more finely characterize sleep in lizards, we developed a multiparametric approach in the tegu lizard, a species never recorded to date. We recorded EOG, electromyogram (EMG), heart rate, and local field potentials (LFPs) and included data on arousal thresholds, sleep deprivation, and pharmacological treatments with fluoxetine, a serotonin reuptake blocker that suppresses REM sleep in mammals. As in the bearded dragon, we demonstrate the existence of two sleep states in tegu lizards. However, no clear periodicity is apparent. The first sleep state (S1 sleep) showed high-amplitude isolated sharp waves, and the second sleep state (S2 sleep) displayed 15-Hz oscillations, isolated ocular movements, and a decrease in heart rate variability and muscle tone compared to S1. Fluoxetine treatment induced a significant decrease in S2 quantities and in the number of sharp waves in S1. Because S2 sleep is characterized by the presence of ocular movements and is inhibited by a serotonin reuptake inhibitor, as is REM sleep in birds and mammals, it might be analogous to this state. However, S2 displays a type of oscillation never previously reported and does not display a desynchronized electroencephalogram (EEG) as is observed in the bearded dragons, mammals, and birds. This suggests that the phenotype of sleep states and possibly their role can differ even between closely related species. Finally, our results suggest a common origin of two sleep states in amniotes. Yet, they also highlight a diversity of sleep phenotypes across lizards, demonstrating that the evolution of sleep states is more complex than previously thought. Author summary Until recently, the general understanding about sleep was that only mammals and birds show two sleep states: slow-wave sleep and rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. Consequently, it was thought that these two states appeared independently in these warm-blooded animals. However, a recent paper reported the presence of these two states in the bearded dragon lizard (Pogona vitticeps), suggesting that these two states arose with the common ancestor of mammals, birds, and reptiles. We confirmed the presence of two sleep states in the bearded dragon and compared its sleep with that of another lizard, the Argentine tegu (Salvator merianae). Our results show that both lizard species have two sleep states with similarities to the two sleep states observed in mammals and birds. Additionally, our study of behavioral and physiological parameters as well as the brain activity associated with sleep in these lizards allowed us to also show important differences between these two species of lizards and between lizards, birds, and mammals. Our findings indicate that sleep in lizards is more complex than previously thought and raise further questions about the nature, function, and evolution of these two sleep states.

    Heat transfer measurements for R254fa were conducted. The heat transfer coefficient was determined for a smooth stainless steel tube with an inner tube diameter of 3 mm. The experiments were conducted for three heat fluxes (10, 30 and 50 W/m^2), five mass fluxes (100, 300, 500, 700 and 1000 kg/(m^2.s)) and at three saturation temperatures (40°C, 70°C and 125°C). The experimental data was used to determine the influence of the saturation temperature, mass flux, heat flux and vapour quality on the heat transfer coefficient. At a low saturation temperature, the heat transfer coefficient increases with an increasing mass flux. However, at a high saturation temperature the heat transfer coefficient decreases with an increasing mass flux. Furthermore, the heat transfer coefficient increases with increasing vapour quality at a low saturation temperature. On the contrary, the heat transfer coefficient decreases at higher saturation temperatures.

    Authors: Daems, Joke; Chambers, Sally; Verbruggen, Christophe; Zere, Tecle;

    Authors: billiet, marijn; Charnay, Romain; Revellin, Rémi; De Paepe, Michel;
