However, some decision-makers in companies discard digital transformation because they do not understand how it can be incorporated into their businesses. Therefore, academia, research centres, and technological clusters are responsible for building the infrastructures and providing the support and the training that will progressively change this mindset. This paper aims to report an experience on designing a training program to train the trainers under the digital transformation topic. To define strategies to understand better the companies (and professionals) needs and motivations and the requisites to deliver the training course, the focus group methodology was applied. In this paper, we present a training program methodology and structure that intend to respond to industrial requests and, in this way to accelerate the digital transformation of companies, especially SMEs.

The benefits of this agricultural intensification have however reached their limits since yields are no longer increasing for many crops, negative externalities on the environment and human health are now recognized and economic inequality between farmers have increased. Agroecology has been proposed to secure food supply with fewer or lower negative environmental and social impacts than intensive agriculture. Agroecology principles are based on the recognition that biodiversity in agroecosystems can provide more than only food, fibre and timber. Hence, biodiversity and its associated functions, such as pollination, pest control, and mechanisms that maintain or improve soil fertility, may improve production efficiency and sustainability of agroecosystems. Although appealing, promoting ecological-based agricultural production is not straightforward since agroecosystems are socio-ecosystems with complex interactions between the ecological and social systems that act at different spatial and temporal scales. To be operational, agroecology thus requires understanding the relationships between biodiversity, functions and management, as well as to take into account the links between agriculture, ecology and the society. Here we review current knowledge on (i) the effect of landscape context on biodiversity and ecosystem functions and (ii) trophic and non-trophic interactions in ecological networks in agroecosystems. In particular, many insights have been made these two previous decades on (i) the interacting effects of management and landscape characteristics on biodiversity, (ii) the crucial role of plant diversity in delivering multiple services and (iii) the variety of ecological belowground mechanisms determining soil fertility in interaction with aboveground processes. However, we also pinpointed the absence of consensus on the effects of landscape heterogeneity on biodiversity and the need for a better mechanistic understanding of the effects of landscape and agricultural variables on farmland food webs and related services. We end by proposing new research avenues to fill knowledge gaps and implement agroecological principles within operational management strategies.

This paper selected Hongquan Branch, Guangba Branch and Gongai Branch of Guangba Farm in Hainan province as study area and total of 327 samples were selected in the rubber plantation. The spatial distribution characters of rubber yield and five soil nutrients, including organic matter (OM), total nitrogen (TN), available phosphorus (AP), available potassium (AK), exchangeable calcium (Ga), were studied using traditional analysis method and geo-statistics analysis method. The results showed that: (1) The average value of rubber yield was 3.55 kg/hm2 with moderate spatial variability and the average values of OM, N, P, K and Ga were 11.65 g/kg, 0.07%, 16.23 mg/kg, 49.65 mg/kg and 84.44 mg/kg, respectively. Soil OM, TN, AK and Ga had moderate spatial variability but AP had strong spatial variability. (2) Rubber yield and soil total nitrogen (N) nutrient had strong spatial dependence; soil OM, AP, AK and Ga had moderate spatial dependence. (3) Based on the previous reports of normal range of soil nutrients, soil OM and TN nutrient content were very low in the studied rubber plantation of Guangba Farm. Therefore, more nitrogen fertilizer should be applied in the rubber plantation in future.

Indeed, as the laser-plane scanner takes the place of the cutting tool, the time allocated to measurement must be reduced, but not at detrimental of the quality. In this direction, this paper proposes a method for scan path planning in a 5-axis machine tool with the control of scanning overlap. This method is an adaptation of a method dedicated to a robot that has proved its efficiency for part inspection.

These transformations go beyond technological fixes and require fundamental changes in cognitive, relational, structural and functional aspects of agricultural systems. However, research on agricultural transformations fails to engage deeply with underlying social aspects such as differing perceptions of sustainability, uncertainties and ambiguities, politics of knowledge, power imbalances and deficits in democracy. In this paper, we suggest that conflict is one manifestation of such underlying social aspects. We present an original conceptualization and analytical framework, wherein conflict is recognized as an important motor for redistribution of power and leverage for social learning that—if addressed through a conflict transformation process—could potentially create a step-change in agricultural transformation towards greater sustainability. Our analysis, building on an extensive literature review and empirical case studies from around the world, suggests a novel approach to guide future transdisciplinary research that can support agricultural transformations towards sustainability.

These new systems must also be more sustainable and so must have fewer negative environmental effects. An element of such new systems could be the introduction of greater genetic diversity in our crops. Diversity can be viewed at different levels: genetic diversity, species diversity, and functional diversity. These will likely interact synergistically to increase the benefits gained beyond a simple additive function. Various examples will be given to illustrate how diversity within and among species may provide increased stability of biomass production and improved ecosystem services. The introduction of greater diversity to agroecosystems appears to be a promising way in which production systems may better adapt to climate change. It is also important we work to combine knowledge from a number of different research fields to design optimal mixtures of species and genotypes and improved ecosystem services.

The integration of social relationships between the components of systems has already been identified as a crucial issue for the future development of reference architec-tures. However, the current research lacks a global approach based on both consideration of the human as an integrated agent of the system and the use of social concept to characterize inter-agents' relationships. The purpose of this paper is to bring an overview of these aspects' consideration in the manufacturing control architecture and to outline some guidelines allowing to revise the architecture of reference PROSA.

Part 2: Industry Transformation and Innovation; International audience; The necessity of SMEs of collaborating together to be competitive again, is mandatory in any European country. Two main perspectives for SMEs to become stronger and stronger: force their collaboration in the project, test and obtain products of high technological level and sophisticated style; inhabit managers to share knowledge, skills and abilities, in order to create a collective intelligence. This is the objective of the PMInnova Program (that means: SME innovation), a strategic agreement between Politecnico di Torino and Gruppo Bancario Cassa di Risparmio di Asti, Biella and Vercelli, dedicated to supporting SMEs both in their innovation projects and in participating in European projects. The work will present some results of the PMInnova Program, for companies in which the use of IoT, AI, and Big Data has been the condition for the creation of the aforementioned collective-intelligence.

Ethiopian economic history is not a new subject: Richard Pankhurst pioneered such work in the 1950s, with a focus on modern Ethiopia, and Donald Crummey did groundbreaking work, for the early modern period, in the 1980s and 1990s. But economic research specifically on the medieval period has developed very little. This chapter is therefore a first, albeit in what would seem to be a “traditional” field. Drawing methodologically and for relevant data on studies dealing with earlier and later periods, highlighting the economic aspects of scholarship on the medieval period, and mining primary sources where studies lack, it provides a synthetic picture of agriculture and animal husbandry as well as trade that encompasses, to the extent possible, Christian, Muslim, and local-religious societies in the variety of their ecological settings.

For further information contact us at helpdesk@openaire.eudescription Publicationkeyboard_double_arrow_right Part of book or chapter of book 2020 FrancePublisher:Brill Authors: Wion, Anaïs;Wion, Anaïs;International audience; The medieval Ethiopian economy is another challenging subject to treat, for different reasons.
