    The present paper describes the etymological component of the TEI Lex-0 initiative which aims at defining a terser subset of the TEI guidelines for the representation of etymological features in dictionary entries. Going beyond the basic provision of etymological mechanisms in the TEI guidelines, TEI Lex-0 Etym proposes a systematic representation of etymological and cognate descriptions by means of embedded constructs based on the (for etymologies) and (for etymons and cognates) elements. In particular, given that all the potential contents of etymons are highly analogous to those of dictionary entries in general, the contents presented herein heavily re-use many of the corresponding features and constraints introduced in other components of the TEI Lex-0 to the encoding of etymologies and etymons. The TEI Lex-0 Etym model is also closely aligned to ISO 24613-3 on modelling etymological data and the corresponding TEI serialisation available in ISO 24613-4.

    Authors: Angevaare, Inge;

    Digitalisering heeft onze samenleving de laatste decennia drastisch veranderd. Er ziin ongekende nieuwe mogelijkheden geschapen voor de wetenschap, de overheid en het culturele leven. Onlangs nog beschreef de Raad voor Cultuur digitalisering als ‘een fundamentele katalysator voor vernieuwing’. Ook onze kenniseconomie is volledig afhankelijk geworden van een zo vrij mogelijk verkeer van digitale gegevens. Grootscheeps gebruik van digitale gegevens kan alleen plaatsvinden als aan heldere randvoorwaarden is voldaan. Door de enorme snelheid van de techniek wordt digitale informatie snel onbruikbaar. Ook ligt manipulatie op de loer en is het voor gebruikers moeilijk te bepalen wat nu ‘echt’ is en wat niet. Behoud van toegankelijkheid en authenticiteit van digitale gegevens krijgen weinig aandacht, omdat ze zich achter de schermen afspelen. Ik noem het wel eens een vorm van ‘corvee’, iets dat onontbeerlijk is, maar waar je geen goede sier kunt maken. Het is daarom zaak om dat corvee zo snel en zo efficiënt mogelijk te organiseren. Dat laatste is precies wat de Nationale Coalitie Digitale Duurzaamheid zich ten doel stelt. Het duurzaam beheer van digitale informatie is een technisch ingewikkeld proces waarvoor veel kennis, expertise en apparatuur nodig is. Lang niet alle instellingen kunnen het zich veroorloven om hiervoor zelf faciliteiten te ontwikkelen. Daarom moet er samengewerkt worden. De NCDD wil als nationale coalitie een gedistribueerd maar samenhangend landelijk netwerk realiseren waarin uiteindelijk voor alle relevante digitale gegevens van de publieke sector een plek zal zijn. Hiervoor moeten niet alleen opslagfaciliteiten beschikbaar zijn, maar vooral ook kennis en menskracht om het beheer goed vorm te kunnen geven. Ook moeten goede afspraken worden gemaakt over de verantwoordelijkheden; wat instellingen zelf moeten doen en welke taken ze in samenwerkingsverbanden vorm kunnen geven. In haar Strategische agenda 2010-2013 geeft de NCDD aan hoe zij dit landelijk dekkend netwerk tot stand wil brengen – met een beperkt aantal organisaties dat als voortrekker optreedt in de eigen sector en dat zeer nauw samenwerkt met alle andere organisaties die de relevante digitale gegevens beheren en ontsluiten. Het plan van de NCDD is een verstandig plan om ervoor te zorgen dat belastinggeld, menskracht en faciliteiten efficiënt gebruikt zullen worden. We zijn ons bewust van de problematiek. Het is nu zaak met zijn allen te werken aan de toekomst van het digitaal geheugen van Nederland.

    Professionally edited open access online encyclopaedias enable a systemic and reliable orientation within the ever-increasing amount of data and information on the Internet. Providing access to scientifically verified information, they represent an important part of the research and didactic infrastructure. This paper demonstrates the activities of Croatia’s Miroslav Krleža Institute of Lexicography aimed at exploring the new encyclopaedic concept in the digital age. The Institute’s digital transformation is shown, which involves the digitisation and online publishing of archival editions, publishing of the permanently updated online general encyclopaedia, and the transformation of specialised encyclopedias to the encyclopaedic portals. Encyclopaedic portals could represent a new concept of encyclopaedias in the digital realm by serving as platforms for data networking and sharing, a sort of ‘junction points’ that connect diverse digital content on a specific topic. Institute’s publicly available repository of encyclopaedic knowledge enables the linking to the digital data and collections of other research and cultural institutions; therefore the collaborative projects aimed at reinforcing digital research and cultural infrastructure will be described. Thanks to the properties of the digital media and increasing connectivity, a closer collaboration Towards a New Concept of Open Access Online Encyclopaedia : A Case Study from... between professionally edited online encyclopaedias across Europe (and beyond) is enabled. This paper elaborates a range of initiatives seeking to build connections across individual European and North American national encyclopaedias, focusing on the role that Croatian encyclopaedistics plays in this endeavour.

    The DDRS - or Data Deposit Recommendation Service - recommends research data repositories to humanities researchers searching for deposit services for their research data, which comply to criteria such as PIDs, funders’ requirements, disciplinary scope or language preferences. The presentation shows the DDRS as re3data use case and explains how the relation between the web service (DDRS) and re3data for the information retrieval is implemented. The DDRS is a demonstrator has been delivered in 2017 within the Humanities at Scale project, a DARIAH-EU undertaking, funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No. 675570. {"references": ["https://hal.archives-ouvertes.fr/hal-03020703v1"]}

    L’étude des fonds iconographiques ou textuels relatifs aux monuments du Caire soulève des difficultés de traitement en raison des multiples variantes issues de la translittération, en caractères latins, des toponymes arabes. Le laboratoire InVisu a établi un référentiel multilingue arabe, français et anglais, qui propose une solution innovante pour identifier, décrire et localiser les 600 édifices classés du Caire. Ce thésaurus est publié au format SKOS (Simple Knowledge Organization System) et aligné sur des jeux de données de référence (data.bnf, Library of Congress, Getty, DBpedia, VIAF et GeoNames).

    The DDRS - or Data Deposit Recommendation Service - recommends research data repositories to humanities researchers searching for deposit services for their research data, which comply to criteria such as PIDs, funders’ requirements, disciplinary scope or language preferences. The presentation shows the DDRS as re3data use case and explains how the relation between the web service (DDRS) and re3data for the information retrieval is implemented. The DDRS is a demonstrator has been delivered in 2017 within the Humanities at Scale project, a DARIAH-EU undertaking, funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No. 675570. {"references": ["https://hal.archives-ouvertes.fr/hal-03020703v1"]}

    L’étude des fonds iconographiques ou textuels relatifs aux monuments du Caire soulève des difficultés de traitement en raison des multiples variantes issues de la translittération, en caractères latins, des toponymes arabes. Le laboratoire InVisu a établi un référentiel multilingue arabe, français et anglais, qui propose une solution innovante pour identifier, décrire et localiser les 600 édifices classés du Caire. Ce thésaurus est publié au format SKOS (Simple Knowledge Organization System) et aligné sur des jeux de données de référence (data.bnf, Library of Congress, Getty, DBpedia, VIAF et GeoNames).
