More and more cultural institutions use Linked Data principles to share and connect their collection metadata. In the archival field, initiatives emerge to exploit data contained in archival descriptions and adapt encoding standards to the semantic web. In this context, online authority files can be used to enrich metadata. However, relying on a decentralized network of knowledge bases such as Wikidata, DBpedia or even Viaf has its own difficulties. This paper aims to offer a critical view of these linked authority files by adopting a close-reading approach. Through a practical case study, we intend to identify and illustrate the possibilities and limits of RDF triples compared to institutions' less structured metadata. In this paper we describe the development and evaluation of a visual analytics tool to support historical research. Historians continuously gather data related to their scholarly research from archival visits and background search. Organising and making sense of all this data can be challenging as many historians continue to rely on analog or basic digital tools. We built an integrated note-taking environment for historians which unifies a set of func-tionalities we identified as important for historical research including editing, tagging, searching, sharing and visualization. Our approach was to involve users from the initial stage of brainstorming and requirement analysis through to design, implementation and evaluation. We report on the process and results of our work, and conclude by reflecting on our own experience in conducting user-centered visual analytics design for digital humanities. International audience

Huma-Num (UMS 3598) est une très grande infrastructure (TGIR) née de la fusion du TGE-Adonis et de IR-Corpus. Elle vise à faciliter le tournant numérique de la recherche en sciences humaines et sociales. Pour remplir cette mission, la TGIR Huma-Num est bâtie sur une organisation originale consistant à mettre en oeuvre un dispositif humain (concertation collective) et technologique (services numériques pérennes) à l’échelle nationale et européenne en s’appuyant sur un important réseau de partenaires et d’opérateurs. Ce rapport intermédiaire dresse le bilan des premières années de la TGIR en rappelant son contexte de création, les services créées, son fonctionnement en réseau et les perspectives de développement à moyen terme.

International audience; This contribution will show how Access play a strong role in the creation and structuring of DARIAH, a European Digital Research Infrastructure in Arts and Humanities.To achieve this goal, this contribution will develop the concept of Access from five examples:_ Interdisciplinarity point of view_ Manage contradiction between national and international perspectives_ Involve different communities (not only researchers stakeholders)_ Manage tools and services_ Develop and use new collaboration toolsWe would like to demonstrate that speaking about Access always implies a selection, a choice, even in the perspective of "Open Access".

If citation is a common practice for publications, it is relatively new for data especially in SSH. This paper will present the work carried out during the SSHOC project about data citation in general and more precisely how to make them actionable. International audience

User Experience und Usability sind wichtige Bestandteile der Forschung und Praxis in der Produkt- und Softwareentwicklung. In diesem Artikel nähern sich die Autoren dem Thema aus der Perspektive der digitalen Geisteswissenschaften. Es werden die Erfahrungen aus zwei Infrastrukturprojekten, DARIAH und CENDARI, näher beschrieben und Handlungsanweisungen abgeleitet. In den Projekten wurden Usability-Studien durchgeführt und nutzerorientierte Methoden eingesetzt, bei denen es einerseits um die Nutzung von unabhängigen Tools, andererseits um einen integrierten Forschungskreislauf mit verschiedenen Tools ging. Aufgrund der in den Projekten gesammelten Erfahrung und durchgeführten Forschung werden Faktoren aufgelistet, die die Entwicklungsmethoden in Bezug auf Usability in den digitalen Geisteswissenschaften beeinflussen. User experience and usability (UX) form a key part of research and best practice for product and software development. In this paper, the topic is addressed from the perspective of the Digital Humanities (DH) and approaches undertaken in two DH infrastructure projects, DARIAH and CENDARI are presented. Both projects addressed aspects of UX, focusing on the usage of a single software tool, as well as on an integrated research workflow using several tools and devices. The article lists the main factors, gleaned from research undertaken in the projects, that influence usability practices in the DH, and provides possible recommendations on how to approach them.
