    Part 4: Building Information Modeling (BIM); International audience; Large-scale 3D city building models have been widely used in urban planning, intelligent transportation, military simulation and other fields. The traditional ways of modeling generally have common problems such as low efficiency, waste of manpower and time consumption. How to find a rapid approach to automatically complete large-scale 3D modeling is a very hot research topic. In this paper we propose a novel approach of procedural modeling of buildings with CityEngine, which is combined with ArcGIS technology for the geographic information. This approach produces extensive architectural 3D models with high visual quality and geometric details at low cost. It includes following two contents concretely. At first, directly writing computer generated architecture (CGA) shape grammar to complete procedural modeling of building and other objects. Secondly, using facade modeling based on two-dimensional images to generate architectural model as well as creating high geometry details. It is validated that this novel approach of procedural modeling is a significant step forward that reduces a lot of modeling times by CGA shape grammars.

    ABSTRACT The different strains of Bacillus cereus can grow at temperatures covering a very diverse range. Some B. cereus strains can grow in chilled food and consequently cause food poisoning. We have identified a new sensor/regulator mechanism involved in low-temperature B. cereus growth. Construction of a mutant of this two-component system enabled us to show that this system, called CasKR, is required for growth at the minimal temperature ( T min ). CasKR was also involved in optimal cold growth above T min and in cell survival below T min . Microscopic observation showed that CasKR plays a key role in cell shape during cold growth. Introducing the casKR genes in a Δ casKR mutant restored its ability to grow at T min . Although it was first identified in the ATCC 14579 model strain, this mechanism has been conserved in most strains of the B. cereus group. We show that the role of CasKR in cold growth is similar in other B. cereus sensu lato strains with different growth temperature ranges, including psychrotolerant strains.

    International audience; Rhythmic skills are natural and widespread in the general population. The majority can track the beat of music and move along with it. These abilities are meaningful from a cognitive standpoint given their tight links with prominent motor and cognitive functions such as language and memory. When rhythmic skills are challenged by brain damage or neurodevelopmental disorders, remediation strategies based on rhythm can be considered. For example, rhythmic training can be used to improve motor performance (e.g., gait) as well as cognitive and language skills. Here, we review the games readily available in the market and assess whether they are well-suited for rhythmic training. Games that train rhythm skills may serve as useful tools for retraining motor and cognitive functions in patients with motor or neurodevelopmental disorders (e.g., Parkinson’s disease, dyslexia, or ADHD). Our criteria were the peripheral used to capture and record the response, the type of response and the output measure. None of the existing games provides sufficient temporal precision in stimulus presentation and/or data acquisition. In addition, games do not train selectively rhythmic skills. Hence, the available music games, in their present form, are not satisfying for training rhythmic skills. Yet, some features such as the device used, the interface or the game scenario provide good indications for devising efficient training protocols. Guidelines are provided for devising serious music games targeting rhythmic training in the future.

    Authors: Rahbany, Nancy;

    There is a growing interest nowadays in the study of strong light-matter interaction at the nanoscale, specifically between plasmons and emitters. Researchers in the fields of plasmonics, nanooptics and nanophotonics are constantly exploring new ways to control and enhance surface plasmon launching, propagation, and localization. Moreover, emitters placed in the vicinity of metallic nanoantennas exhibit a fluorescence rate enhancement due to the increase in the electromagnetic field confinement. However, numerous applications such as optical electronics, nanofabrication and sensing devices require a very high optical resolution which is limited by the diffraction limit. Targeting this problem, we introduce a novel plasmonic structure consisting of nanoantennas integrated in the center of ring diffraction gratings. Propagating surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) are generated by the ring grating and couple with localized surface plasmons (LSPs) at the nanoantennas exciting emitters placed in the gap. We provide a thorough characterization of the optical properties of the simple ring grating structure, the double bowtie nanoantenna, and the integrated ring grating/nanoantenna structure, and study the coupling with an ensemble of molecules as well as single SiV centers in diamond. The combination of the sub-wavelength confinement of LSPs and the high energy of SPPs in our structure leads to precise nanofocusing at the nanoscale, which can be implemented to study plasmon-emitter coupling in the weak and strong coupling regimes L'objectif de ce travail de thèse est d'étudier le couplage plasmon-émetteur dans des structures plasmoniques hybrides, visant à renforcer l’interaction lumière-matière à l'échelle nanométrique. Contrairement aux cavités optiques dont le volume de modes est limité par la diffraction, les cavités plasmoniques offrent un unique avantage d’efficacité du confinement sub-longueur d'onde. Cela peut conduire à l’accroissement de la fluorescence des émetteurs placés dans leur voisinage. Pour cela, nous proposons comme dispositif de focalisation une structure intégrée d’un réseau annulaire avec des nanoantennes afin de garantir une meilleure efficacité. Ce dispositif bénéficie du couplage entre des plasmons polaritons de surface (SPP) qui se propagent à partir du réseau et des plasmons localisés de surface (LSP) localisés aux niveaux des nanoantennes afin de parvenir à une augmentation de champ plus élevée. Nous présentons une étude de caractérisation de la plate-forme plasmonique constitué du réseau de diffraction métallique annulaire, d’une nanoantenne en étoile, et la structure intégrée réseau/nanoantenne. Nous montrons comment cette structure peut conduire à une plus grande émission des molécules de colorants ainsi que de centre SiV du diamant. La combinaison du confinement sub-longueur d'onde des LSP et l'énergie élevé des SPP dans notre structure conduit à une focalisation précise qui peut être mis en œuvre pour étudier le couplage plasmon-émetteur dans les régimes de couplage faibles et forts

    Authors: Nguyen, von Dim;

    L’objectif ultime de ce travail de thèse est d’évaluer la possibilité de valider et d’optimiser un processus de fabrication en utilisant la simulation numérique en tenant compte des incertitudes irréductibles sur le procédé, les matériaux et la géométrie du produit fabriqué. La prise en compte des incertitudes nécessite de quantifier les effets des variations des paramètres du modèle sur les sorties de celui-ci, en propageant ces variations via la simulation numérique pour évaluer leurs effets sur les sorties. Dans ce travail nous avons proposé une procédure pour déterminer le seuil de sensibilité du modèle numérique afin de construire des plans d’expériences numériques cohérents avec ce seuil. Nous avons également montré que, compte tenu des incertitudes sur les matériaux et la géométrie du produit, il est possible d’optimiser certains paramètres du procédé pour contrôler les effets des incertitudes sur les variations dimensionnelles et morphologiques du produit. Pour cela, nous avons proposé une procédure d’optimisation basée sur un algorithme NSGA-II et une méta-modélisation du procédé. L’application à l’emboutissage d’une tôle en U, retour élastique inclus, montre qu’il s’agit d’un problème de conception robuste pour lequel nous obtenons l’ensemble des compromis entre l’écart à la moyenne et l’écart type d’une fonction « performance » du procédé correctement choisie. Finalement l’analyse de ces résultats nous permet de quantifier le lien entre la notion de robustesse d’une solution optimisée du procédé et les critères de mesure de la qualité du produit The ultimate objective of this thesis is to evaluate the possibility to validate and optimize a manufacturing process using numerical simulation and taking into account the irreducible uncertainties in the process, materials and geometry of manufactured product. Taking into account the uncertainties requires quantifying the effects of variations of model parameters on the outputs, by propagating these variations via computer simulation to assess their effects on the outputs. In this work, we have proposed a procedure to determine the sensitivity threshold of the numerical model to build numerical Design of Experiments consistent with this threshold. We have also shown that, given the uncertainties in the materials and the geometry of the product, it is possible to optimize certain process parameters to control the effects of uncertainties on the dimensional and morphological variations of the product. For this, we have proposed an optimization procedure based on NSGA-II algorithm and a meta-modeling of the process. The application for deep drawing of a U-shaped sheet metal part, springback included shows that it is a robust design problem for which we get all the compromise between the deviation from the mean and standard deviation of a "performance" depending on the process correctly chosen. Finally, the analysis of these results allows us to quantify the relationship between the notion of robustness of an optimized solution of the process and criteria for measuring the quality of the product

    International audience; The illumination of plasmonic mesostructures produces high confinement of light in their vicinity. This confinement of light can be enhanced in the gap between the two metallic nanorods of a nanonantenna, in particular for the design of biosensors. The nanometric gap can be reduced if the elevation of temperature of the nanonantenna is sufficient, and therefore the fine tuning of the sensor requires the description of the photo-thermal induced dilation. The multiphysics problem associated to such photo-thermal and mechanical effects is modeled through a Finite Element Method (FEM). The problem consists in computing the electromagnetic field, the temperature and the induced dilation surface. This contribution consists in discussing the numerical efficiencies of a sequential, and a coupled approaches, especially in terms of adaptive meshing of the space of computation. The relationship between the field enhancement and the reduction of the gap is studied. Finally the validity of the 2D multiphysic model is discussed.

    Authors: Bruel, Aurélien;

    Dans notre société actuelle, il s’avère difficile de déployer l’Écologie industrielle. Ceci peut s’expliquer par le fait que l’information à destination des décideurs est principalement issue des sciences naturelles et de l’ingénieur. Ainsi l’information apportée dans les processus de décision est focalisée sur l’étude physique des flux de matière et d’énergie. Elle semble peu pertinente pour interpeller les décideurs industriel et public. Pour cela, ce travail de thèse a pour objectif de mieux comprendre quels indicateurs utiliser pour mieux intégrer les impacts environnementaux dans les processus de décision industriel et public. Il s’intéresse en particulier à la prise en compte des externalités environnementales dans les processus de décision. Il cherche ainsi à mieux comprendre quelles sont les interactions entre le cycle de vie d’un produit et les services écosystémiques au niveau local au moyen de la méthodologie d’analyse du cycle de vie. Cette proposition est mise à l’épreuve en la développant sur un cas d’étude illustratif modélisant deux services écosystémiques liés au phénomène d’eutrophisation. Ensuite, des indicateurs des systèmes industriels sur les services écosystémiques sont testés dans un processus de validation expérimentale dans deux contextes de prise de décisions différents In today's society, it is difficult to spread the Industrial ecology. This can be explained by the fact that information for decision makers is mainly outcome from the natural and engineering sciences. Thus, information provided in the decision process is focused on the physical study of material and energy flows. It seems irrelevant to challenge the industrial and public decision makers. For this, this thesis aims to understand which indicators to use to better integrate environmental impacts in the process of industrial and public decision. It is particularly interested in the integration of environmental externalities in the decision process. It seeks to understand what are the interactions between the life cycle of a product and ecosystem services of a territory by using the methodology of Life cycle assessment. This proposal was put to the test by developing an illustrative case study by modeling two ecosystem services related to eutrophication. Then indicators of industrial systems on ecosystem services are tested in an experimental validation process in two different contexts of decision making

    Infrared spectroscopy is a reliable, rapid and cost effective characterisation technique, delivering a molecular finger print of the sample. It is expected that its sensitivity would enable detection of small chemical variations in biological samples associated with disease. ATR-IR is particularly suitable for liquid sample analysis and, although air drying is commonly performed before data collection, just a drop of human serum is enough for screening and early diagnosis. However, the dynamic range of constituent biochemical concentrations in the serum composition remains a limiting factor to the reliability of the technique. Using glucose as a model spike in human serum, it has been demonstrated in the present study that fractionating the serum prior to spectroscopic analysis can considerably improve the precision and accuracy of quantitative models based on the partial least squares regression algorithm. By depleting the abundant high molecular weight proteins, which otherwise dominate the spectral signatures collected, the ability to monitor changes in the concentrations of the low molecular weight constituents is enhanced. The Root Mean Square Error for the Validation set (RMSEV) has been improved by a factor of 5 following human serum processing with an average relative error in the predictive values below 1% being achieved. Moreover, the approach is easily transferable to different bodily fluids, which would support the development of more efficient and suitable clinical protocols for exploration of vibrational spectroscopy based ex vivo diagnostic tools.

    We investigate potential models that could explain why multiple proto-stellar systems predominantly show single jets. During their formation, stars most frequently produce energetic outflows and jets. However, binary jets have only been observed in a very small number of systems. We model numerically 3D binary jets for various outflow parameters. We also model the propagation of jets from a specific source, namely L1551 IRS 5, known to have two jets, using recent observations as constraints for simulations with a new MHD code. We examine their morphology and dynamics, and produce synthetic emission maps. We find that the two jets interfere up to the stage where one of them is almost destroyed or engulfed into the second one. We are able to reproduce some of the observational features of L1551 such as the bending of the secondary jet. While the effects of orbital motion are negligible over the jets dynamical timeline, their interaction has significant impact on their morphology. If the jets are not strictly parallel, as in most observed cases, we show that the magnetic field can help the collimation and refocusing of both of the two jets. accepted for publication in A&A

    Optimal length of ZnO nanorods (NRs) on blue InGaN lightemitting diodes (LEDs) was investigated to improve the light-extraction efficiency (LEE) of the LED. X-ray diffraction, photoluminescence spectroscopy, and micro-Raman spectroscopy were employed to determine the structural and optical properties of the ZnO NRs with length of 300 nm and 5 mu m grown by a hydrothermal method. From the conventional light output power versus injection current (L-I) measurement, we found that the light output power of the LEDs with 300-nm-and 5-mu m-long ZnO NRs was approximately 14.6% and 40.7% greater, respectively, than that of the LED without the ZnO NRs at an operating current of 20 mA. In addition, there were almost no changes to the electrical properties of the ZnO-NR-coated LEDs. The effect of the length of the ZnO NRs on the LEE of the LEDs was theoretically verified with three-dimensional finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) analysis. The FDTD images of the optical power and far-field radiation patterns of the LEDs showed that more photons were guided to the out of the LED by the longer ZnO NRs than by the shorter ZnO NRs grown on the LEDs.

    Authors: Rahbany, Nancy;

    There is a growing interest nowadays in the study of strong light-matter interaction at the nanoscale, specifically between plasmons and emitters. Researchers in the fields of plasmonics, nanooptics and nanophotonics are constantly exploring new ways to control and enhance surface plasmon launching, propagation, and localization. Moreover, emitters placed in the vicinity of metallic nanoantennas exhibit a fluorescence rate enhancement due to the increase in the electromagnetic field confinement. However, numerous applications such as optical electronics, nanofabrication and sensing devices require a very high optical resolution which is limited by the diffraction limit. Targeting this problem, we introduce a novel plasmonic structure consisting of nanoantennas integrated in the center of ring diffraction gratings. Propagating surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) are generated by the ring grating and couple with localized surface plasmons (LSPs) at the nanoantennas exciting emitters placed in the gap. We provide a thorough characterization of the optical properties of the simple ring grating structure, the double bowtie nanoantenna, and the integrated ring grating/nanoantenna structure, and study the coupling with an ensemble of molecules as well as single SiV centers in diamond. The combination of the sub-wavelength confinement of LSPs and the high energy of SPPs in our structure leads to precise nanofocusing at the nanoscale, which can be implemented to study plasmon-emitter coupling in the weak and strong coupling regimes L'objectif de ce travail de thèse est d'étudier le couplage plasmon-émetteur dans des structures plasmoniques hybrides, visant à renforcer l’interaction lumière-matière à l'échelle nanométrique. Contrairement aux cavités optiques dont le volume de modes est limité par la diffraction, les cavités plasmoniques offrent un unique avantage d’efficacité du confinement sub-longueur d'onde. Cela peut conduire à l’accroissement de la fluorescence des émetteurs placés dans leur voisinage. Pour cela, nous proposons comme dispositif de focalisation une structure intégrée d’un réseau annulaire avec des nanoantennes afin de garantir une meilleure efficacité. Ce dispositif bénéficie du couplage entre des plasmons polaritons de surface (SPP) qui se propagent à partir du réseau et des plasmons localisés de surface (LSP) localisés aux niveaux des nanoantennes afin de parvenir à une augmentation de champ plus élevée. Nous présentons une étude de caractérisation de la plate-forme plasmonique constitué du réseau de diffraction métallique annulaire, d’une nanoantenne en étoile, et la structure intégrée réseau/nanoantenne. Nous montrons comment cette structure peut conduire à une plus grande émission des molécules de colorants ainsi que de centre SiV du diamant. La combinaison du confinement sub-longueur d'onde des LSP et l'énergie élevé des SPP dans notre structure conduit à une focalisation précise qui peut être mis en œuvre pour étudier le couplage plasmon-émetteur dans les régimes de couplage faibles et forts

    Authors: Nguyen, von Dim;

    Authors: Bruel, Aurélien;

    Authors: Jeong, Hyun; Salas-Montiel, Rafael; Jeong, Mun Seok;
