Recent advances have shown sensor-fusion’s vital role in accurate detection, especially for advanced driver assistancesystems. We introduce a novel procedure for depth upsampling and sensor-fusion that together lead to an improved detectionperformance, compared to state-of-the-art results for detecting cars. Upsampling is generally based on combining datafrom an image to compensate for the low resolution of a LiDAR (Light Detector and Ranging). This paper, on the otherhand, presents a framework to obtain dense depth map solely from a single LiDAR point cloud that makes it possible touse just one deep network for both LiDAR and image modalities. The produced full-depth map is added to the grayscaleversion of the image to produce a two-channel input for a deep neural network. The simple preprocessing structure isefficiently competent in filing cars’ shapes, which helps the fusion framework to outperforms the state-of-the-art on theKITTI object detection for the Car class. Additionally, the combination of depth and image makes it easier for the networkto discriminate highly occluded and truncated vehicles.

These analyses are considered a strong decision tool in the planning process of mass transit especially railroads. Catchment area analyses are GIS-based buffer and overlay analyses with different approaches depending on the desired level of detail. A simple but straightforward approach to implement is the Circular Buffer Approach where catchment areas are circular. A more detailed approach is the Service Area Approach where catchment areas are determined by a street network search to simulate the actual walking distances. A refinement of the Service Area Approach is to implement additional time resistance in the network search to simulate obstacles in the walking environment. This paper reviews and compares the different GIS-based catchment area approaches, their level of detail and their strengths as applications in the planning process of mass transit.

In addition, new cloud-based services are emerging, which are characterized by very stringent delay requirements. This trend puts a stress in the existing monolithic architecture of Data Center Networks (DCN), thus creating the need to evolve them. Traffic Engineering (TE) has long been the way of attacking this problem, but as with DCN, needs to evolve by encompassing new technologies and paradigms. This paper provides a comprehensive analysis of current DCN operational and TE techniques focusing on their limitations. Then, it highlights the benefits of incorporating the Software Defined Networking (SDN) paradigm to address these limitations. Furthermore, it illustrates two methodologies and addresses the scalability aspect of DCN-oriented TE, network and service testing, by presenting a hybrid physical-simulated SDN enabled testbed for TE studies.

In particular, we use high-frequency Automatic Vehicle Location data to parameterise a model that represents the movement of a bus along predefined patches of the route. We fit the probability distributions of the time spent in each patch to two classes of probability distributions: hyper-Erlang distributions, for which we use the tool HyperStar, and a variation of the three-parameter gamma distributions recommended by the Traffic Engineering Handbook. In both cases we obtain models that can be expressed using the framework of Probabilistic Timed Automata, allowing us to evaluate bus punctuality using the model checking tool UPPAAL. We conduct a case study involving a proposed speed limit in Edinburgh.

The project is funded under the EU Horizon-2020, from where 5G development and especiallyenhanced Mobile Broadband and V2X technologies are studied by various organizations around EU. The paperfocuses on the first field tests of the project, which has been done in Espoo Finland in May 2019. The field tests are planned so that there are two use case test scenarios, where hybrid communication technologies (ETSI ITS-G5 and LTE/5G) are experimented together with automated car. The tests will produce more information about 5G development and especially focus on interoperability issues between EU and China, where 5G-DRIVE’s counter project is executed in parallel. The preliminary results indicate that the current network is not ready for having real collaborative driving and especially, steps towards C-V2X is not straightforward as thought in headlines.

This work provides a general overview of the main findings of two European projects, HeERO and HeERO2 aimed at facilitating the implementation of the eCall in-vehicle emergency call service in Europe. The representatives of 15 European Member States (MS) participated in the project's activities with the objective to demonstrate the functioning of the eCall. The projects identified several layers that form the eCall value chain. Based on these layers, a questionnaire was prepared and presented to MS representatives to identify the main barriers and enablers at country level. The results of the survey were used in the project to create the guidelines and recommendations for eCall deployment. The main contribution of the paper consists of the evaluation of the HeERO MS readiness level to implement eCall. To this aim, a set of evaluation criteria are measured based on the answers provided by the MS representatives. Furthermore, two multicriteria approaches are selected and implemented: the PROMETHEE and the PAPRIKA methods that consist in performing pairwise comparisons of alternatives. The outcome of the analysis is a ranking of HeERO countries based on their readiness level to implement eCall by October 2017, which is the mandatory deadline that has been set up by the European Commission.
