    Le commerce intra-européen des viandes et coproduits du porc : tendances et évolutions récentes des principaux flux et identification des marchés d'intérêt. Le marché des pièces de découpe se place au coeur du commerce intra-européen. Chaque année, près de 8 millions de tonnes de produits du porc sont échangées entre les Etats membres de l'Union européenne (UE), soit environ un tiers de la production de l'UE-28. Parmi ces produits du porc, les pièces de porc représentent 60% des échanges, mais les produits transformés, les lards et les abats contribuent également fortement. Face à l'importance du commerce intra-européen, l'objectif de l'étude est de préciser ses caractéristiques en termes de volume, de valeur et de prix unitaire moyen par produit. L'étude permet de comprendre quelles sont les spécificités du marché européen et de mettre en exergue l'évolution dans le temps des types de produits exportés et des principaux acteurs du commerce. Les statistiques du commerce international d'Eurostat permettent de suivre les flux commerciaux en volume et en valeur entre les pays pour diverses catégories de produits définies par la Nomenclature Combinée à 8 chiffres. L'analyse statistique porte sur la période 2000-2020. Depuis 2000, les échanges de produits du porc n'ont cessé de se développer, en particulier pour les pièces désossées. Ceci est en lien avec une production européenne croissante et la recherche de valeur ajoutée, poussant les opérateurs vers une élaboration des pièces de découpe. Néanmoins, face à l'intensification des exportations vers l'Asie et surtout la Chine ces trois dernières années, à la crise de la Covid-19 en 2020, et à l'introduction de la peste porcine africaine en Allemagne, les dynamiques habituelles sont perturbées. Les cartes du commerce intra-européen ont été redistribuées avec une forte inflexion des exportations des pièces de découpe. Intra-European trade in meat and pork coproducts: recent trends and developments in the main flows and identification of markets of interest The market for meat cuts lies at the heart of intra-European trade. Each year, nearly 8 million tons of pork products are traded between member states of the European Union (EU), or around one-third of the EU-28's production. Among these pork products, pork cuts represent 60% of trade, but processed products, bacon and offal also contribute greatly. Given the importance of intra-European trade, the objective of the study was to specify its volume, value, and average unit price per product. The study helps understand specific characteristics of the EU market and highlight dynamics of the types of products exported and the main trading partners. Eurostat's international trade statistics make it possible to monitor the volume and value of trade flows between countries for a variety of product categories defined by an 8-digit Combined Nomenclature. The statistical analysis covered the period 2000-2020. Since 2000, trade in pork products has grown steadily, especially in boneless cuts. This is in line with increasing EU production and the search for added value, which pushes operators to produce cuts. However, faced with the increase in exports to Asia, especially China, in the past three years, the COVID-19 crisis in 2020, and the appearance of African swine fever in Germany, the usual dynamics have been disrupted. The map of intra-European trade has been reconfigured, with a sharp drop in exports of cuts. The market for meat cuts lies at the heart of intra-European trade. La mise en place d'essais représentatifs pour caractériser la durabilité des matériaux des digues s'appuie sur la connaissance de la nature, l'amplitude et la fréquence des phénomènes environnementaux susceptibles de dégrader les matériaux. La spécificité les environnements fluviaux et maritime, ainsi que la spécificité des matériaux naturels, traités à la chaux ou au ciment sont pris compte dans l'élaboration des essais. New tests able to study the sustainability of levees' materials should be based on the knowledge of the type, the amplitude and the frequency of the environmental phenomena that can damage the materials. The specificity of the fluvial and maritime environments, as well as the specificity of natural materials, treated with lime or cement are taken into account in the development of the tests.

    Afin de modéliser l'absorption dans le traitement des transferts radiatifs en milieu atmosphérique, de nombreuses méthodes plus précises et plus rapides ont été développées. La modélisation de la formation du brouillard, où le rayonnement infrarouge joue un rôle très important, nécessite des méthodes numériques suffisamment précises pour calculer le taux de refroidissement. Le brouillard radatif se forme après des conditions de ciel clair, où l'absorption est le processus radiatif dominant, en raison d'un fort refroidissement nocturne. Avec l'augmentation des ressources de calcul et le développement du Calcul Haute Performance, les modèles à bandes, pour effectuer l'intégration sur la longueur des grandeurs radiométriques, sont les plus utilisés. Toutefois, le couplage entre les transferts radiatifs 3-D et la dynamique des fluides reste très coûteux en temps de calcul. Le rayonnement augmente d'environ cinquante pourcent le temps de la simulation pour la dynamique des fluides uniquement. Pour réduire le temps passé dans une itération radiative, une nouvelle paramétrization basée sur les modèles en émissivité a été développée. Cette approche nécessite seulement une résolution de l'ETR contre N_{bandes} x N_{gauss} pour un modèle à N_{bandes} avec N_{gauss} points de quadratures sur chaque bande. Une comparaison avec des données de simulation a été effectuée et cette nouvelle paramétrisation de l'absorption infrarouge a montré sa capacité à prendre en compte les variations des concentrations gazeuses et d'eau liquide. Une étude à travers le couplage entre le modèle développé et le code de CFD Code_Saturne a été réalisée afin valider dynamiquement notre paramétrisation. Enfin une simulation exploratoire a été effectuée sur un domaine 3-D en présence de bâti idéalisé, pour capter les effets radiatifs 3-D dûs aux hétérogénéités horizontales du champ d'eau liquide et des bâtiments The Atmospheric Radiation field has seen the development of more accurate and faster methods to take into account absorption. Modelling fog formation, where Infrared Radiation is involved, requires accurate methods to compute cooling rates. Radiative fog appears with clear sky condition due to a significant cooling during the night where absorption is the dominant processus. Thanks to High Performance Computing, multi-spectral approaches of Radiative Transfer Equation resolution are often used. Nevertheless, the coupling of three-dimensional radiative transfer with fluid dynamics is very computationally expensive. Radiation increases the computation time by around fifty percent over the pure Computational Fluid Dynamics simulation. To reduce the time spent in radiation calculations, a new method using the broadband emissivity has been developed to compute an equivalent absorption coefficient (spectrally integrated). Only one resolution of Radiative Transfer Equation is needed against N_{band} x N_{gauss} for an N_{band} model with N_{gauss} quadrature points on each band. A comparison with simulation data has been done and the new parameterization of Radiative properties shows the ability to handle variations of gases concentrations and liquid water. A dynamical study through the coupling between the infrared radiation model and Code_Saturne has been done to validate our parametrization. Finally the model was tested on a 3-D domain with idealized buildings to catch 3-D infrared radiative effects due to horizontally inhomogenities of the liquid water content field and buildings

    Les principaux objectifs de cette étude, une des premières menée au Liban, étaient d’acquérir une meilleure connaissance des caractéristiques physico-chimiques des particules atmosphériques fines (PF ou PM₂.₅₋₀.₃) et ultrafines (PUF ou PM₀.₃), et d’évaluer in vitro, leur potentiel toxique sur des cellules épithéliales bronchiques humaines (BEAS-2B). L’échantillonnage de PF et de PUF a été mené au Liban à la fois sur un site urbain (Sin El-Fil, du 18 mai au 2 sept. 2011) et un site rural (Beije, du 5 sept. au 28 oct. 2011). Les PF et les PUF ont fait l’objet d’une caractérisation physico-chimique par la détermination de leur composition en éléments et ions inorganiques, carbone total et composés organiques. Ensuite, des échantillons composites de PF et de PUF ont été préparés afin d’exposer les cellules BEAS-2B et évaluer les mécanismes toxiques sous-jacents. Nos résultats ont montré une influence des sources de combustion plus notable pour les particules collectées sur le site urbain, et cela par la présence de carbone total, de composés organiques, de métaux et d’ions inorganiques secondaires à des niveaux de concentration supérieurs à ceux rencontrés sur le site rural. D’autre part, une cytotoxicité plus prononcée a été provoquée par les PUF par comparaison aux PF. Les mécanismes de génotoxicité et de modifications épigénétiques que nous avons étudiés, à savoir l’activation métabolique des composés organiques, la modification de l’expression de trois microARNs, l’activation de la télomérase et l’induction de cassures au niveau de l’ADN, ont été induits par les deux échantillons de PF, avec un effet plus prononcé pour les particules d’origine urbaine. L’exposition des cellules BEAS-2B aux PF collectées, notamment celles d’origine urbaine, pourraient donc favoriser la transformation des cellules pulmonaires en cellules immortelles, et par conséquent, l’initiation ou la promotion de la cancérogenèse broncho-pulmonaire. The objectives of this study, one of the first conducted in Lebanon, were to acquire a better knowledge on the physico-chemical characteristics of atmospheric fine particles (FP or PM₂.₅₋₀.₃) and ultrafine ones (UFP or PM₀.₃), and to assess their potential toxicity. Particles were collected at two coastal sites between may and sept. 2011 at Sin El-Fil (urban site in Greater Beirut), and between sept. and oct. 2011 at Bejje (rural site). After sampling, FP and UFP were subjected to a physico-chemical characterization by quantifying their inorganic ions and elements, total carbon and organic compounds contents. Then, composite samples of FP and UFP were prepared in order to expose bronchial epithelial cells (BEAS-2B) in culture, and therefore to assess the underlying toxic mechanisms. Our results showed an influence of combustion sources especially for urban particles that are richer in total carbon, organic compounds, metals and secondary inorganic ions than rural ones. On the other hand, a more pronounced cytotoxicity was caused by UFP when compared to FP. In addition, epigenetic modifications and genotoxicity mechanisms, such as metabolic activation of organic compounds, changes in three microRNAs expression, telomerase activation and DNA breaks induction, which are potentially involved in the initiation and promotion of carcinogenesis, were induced by the two samples of FP, with a more pronounced effect of urban particles. Exposure of BEAS-2B cells to collected FP, especially urban ones, may therefore induce the transformation of lung cells to immortal cells, and consequently the initiation or the promotion of broncho-pulmonary carcinogenesis.

    Authors: Khiari, Karim;

    La croissance mondiale, économique et industrielle, ainsi que la rapide progression démographique des populations, ont fait augmenter la demande en énergie fossile. Ces dernières années, beaucoup de recherches ont été orientées vers de nouvelles ressources énergétiques qui peuvent remplacer les carburants fossiles conventionnels. Les biocarburants sont des carburants écologiques renouvelables, obtenus grâce à la transformation des matières grasses animales et végétales. Ils sont classés en tant que ressource idéale, non-toxique et renouvelable, substituant avantageusement le Diesel conventionnel. Dans cette optique, nous nous sommes intéressés à la production des biocarburants à partir d’une source végétale, non alimentaire, très abondante dans le bassin méditerranéen, en l’occurrence le pistachier lentisque, par deux procédés, l’un est chimique appelé transestérification et l’autre est thermochimique, la solvolyse. Les caractérisations des biocarburants conformément aux normes en vigueur, ont montré que les propriétés physico-chimiques sont comparables à celles du Diesel conventionnel. Un moteur Diesel monocylindre refroidi à l'air, a été utilisé pour évaluer les caractéristiques de la combustion de ces biocarburants, à 1500 tr/min, sous diverses conditions de charges du moteur. Les caractéristiques de la combustion (pression du cylindre, délai d’auto-inflammation, taux de dégagement de chaleur et durée de combustion) des biocarburants obtenus, sont comparées à celles du Diesel conventionnel. The world economic and industrial growths, as well as the demographic rapid progression, have increased the fossil energy demand. These last years, much of researches were directed towards new energy resources which can replace the conventional fossil fuels. The biofuels are renewable ecological fuels derived from biomass; they are classified as an ideal resource, non-toxic and renewable component with respect to the conventional Diesel. In this context, we were firstly interested to the production of the biofuels starting from a non-edible vegetable source widely available in the Mediterranean basin which is the Pistacia Lentiscus using two processes. The first one is a chemical method named “transesterification” and the second one is a thermochemical procedure called “solvolysis”. The biofuels physicochemical properties, measured via standard methods, are similar to those of Diesel fuel. A single cylinder, naturally aspirated DI Diesel engine is operated at 1500 rpm with either pure produced biofuels or their blends with Diesel fuel for several ratios (50, 30 and 5 v%) and engine load conditions. The combustion parameters, their blends are compared with those of Diesel fuel.

    GAST'2017, Atelier Gestion et Analyse de données Spatiales et Temporelles: Conférence Extraction et Gestion des Connaissances EGC'2017, Grenoble, France, 23-/01/2017 - 27/01/2017; L'une des principales familles de solutions apportées à l'objectif de réduction de la complexité de la carte de flux consiste à réduire la résolution des données. Les solutions liées à l'agrégation spatiale conduisent à un changement d'échelle géographique, à la production d'un maillage territorial de niveau régional issu d'une classification fonctionnelle car fondée sur les valeurs des flux. Si l'approche est efficace, on souhaite s'interroger sur les raisons de l'absence d'analyse factorielle réalisées en amont de ces partitions de l'espace par des flux.

    La leucémie est un cancer qui atteint les cellules souches sanguines. La fréquence des leucémies est relativement faible mais, chez l’enfant, c’est le type de cancer le plus fréquent. Le développement de la maladie est multi-étapes ; depuis vingt ans, les preuves d’une initiation prénatale des leucémies aiguës de l’enfant se sont accumulées. Les facteurs qui induisent la formation d’une cellule leucémique sont vraisemblablement multiples : facteurs génétiques et/ou environnementaux. Très peu d’entre eux sont établis comme facteurs de risque certains. La découverte récente des polymorphismes liés au risque de leucémies aiguës de l’enfant modifie profondément le champ de la recherche sur les causes de ces maladies. Certains des facteurs de risque environnementaux suspectés pourraient modifier l'effet de ces gènes, et inversement, ces gènes pourraient influer sur l'effet de ces facteurs environnementaux au niveau de l'organisme.

    A travers une démarche expérimentale de simulation de la circulation routière pour estimer les pollutions atmosphériques en milieu urbain, cette proposition questionne les opportunités qu'offre la simulation multi-agents pour intégrer des données d'observations du trafic routier au sein d'un système d'information géographique. Pour cela, la construction du modèle d'affectation s'est faite en deux étapes : une première, d'acquisition et de structuration des données de comptages et une seconde visant à interfacer ces données au sein d'une plateforme de simulation multi-agents pour en reproduire la variabilité intra journalière et la fréquentation routière.

    Authors: Raffort, Valentin;

    Les modèles Eulériens de chimie-transport simulent les phénomènes de formation des polluants atmosphériques dans des mailles de résolution horizontale qui sont généralement de l’ordre de plusieurs kilomètres. Les panaches issus des sources industrielles, de dimensions initiales de l’ordre du mètre, sont donc artificiellement dilués, détériorant alors la représentation de leur impact potentiel sur la qualité de l'air ambiant. Une approche de modèle de panache sous-maille peut-être mise en œuvre pour traiter ce problème. Le modèle de panache sous-maille de Polyphemus traite les émissions des sources ponctuelles industrielles par l'intermédiaire d'un modèle à bouffées gaussiennes qui interagit dynamiquement avec un modèle eulérien. Ceci permet de modéliser la qualité de l’air à grande échelle (régionale à continentale), tout en gardant une bonne représentation des panaches, y compris à l’échelle locale.Les travaux menés dans le cadre de cette thèse ont permis d’améliorer le modèle de panache sous-maille de Polyphemus en intégrant une représentation plus fine de la granulométrie des particules, et d’approfondir les évaluations du modèle à différentes échelles. Ils ont été réalisés selon deux phases principales.La première consiste en l’évaluation à l'échelle continentale du modèle eulérien de Polyphemus dans le cadre de l'exercice d'intercomparaison Eurodelta. La phase actuelle du programme vise à étudier les tendances de pollution à l’échelle de l’Europe sur les vingt dernières années, ainsi que la sensibilité de ces tendances modélisées aux données météorologiques, aux émissions européennes et aux émissions extra-européennes (implicitement représentées par les conditions aux limites). Dans ce contexte, les performances du modèle eulérien de Polyphemus sont évaluées en comparaison à sept autres modèles. Pour cette thèse, l'étude se concentre plus spécifiquement sur l’évaluation de la modélisation des concentrations en aérosols organiques secondaires (AOS), et leurs sensibilités aux différentes paramétrisations utilisées par les modèles participants.La seconde phase présente l’utilisation du modèle de panache sous maille de Polyphemus dans le contexte de différentes campagnes de mesures. En premier lieu, le modèle est appliqué dans le contexte d’une campagne de mesures réalisée en avril 2013 au voisinage de la raffinerie Total de Grandpuits en Seine-et-Marne. Cette étude a permis d'évaluer les performances du modèle à l’échelle de la région Île-de-France et à l'échelle locale. La contribution de la raffinerie aux concentrations en particules inhalables, en interaction avec les autres sources locales, a été analysée. En second lieu, le modèle est appliqué dans le contexte des deux campagnes d'observation du projet TEMMAS (« TEledetection, Measure, Modeling of Atmospherics pollutants on industrial Site »), réalisées au voisinage de la raffinerie Total de La Mède dans les Bouches-du-Rhône en septembre 2015 et février 2016. Les performances du modèle sont évaluées en comparaison à des mesures intensives de concentrations en masse et en nombre et de composition des particules au voisinage de la raffinerie de la Mède Eulerian Chemical-Transport Models (CTM) simulate the formation of atmospheric pollutants in gridded domain with horizontal resolutions that are usually of the order of several kilometers. Industrial plumes emitted from elevated stacks with initial dimensions of a few meters are, therefore, artificially diluted in those grid cells, thereby deteriorating the representation of their potential impact on local air quality. A Plume-in-Grid modeling approach may be used to improve the representation of industrial plumes. The Polyphemus Plume-in-Grid model treats point source emissions with a Gaussian puff model, dynamically interacting with an Eulerian model. This approach allows one to model air quality at several scales (regional to continental) while ensuring a good representation of industrial plumes from local to continental scales.In this thesis, the Polyphemus Plume-in-Grid model has been improved by integrating a finer representation of the particle size distribution. Several studies were also conducted in order to further the model performance evaluation at various scales. This thesis consists of two main parts.The first part covers the evaluation of the Polyphemus Eulerian model at the continental scale, in the context of the Eurodelta model intercomparison project. The current phase of Eurodelta consists in studying pollution trends at the European scale over the past two decades and the sensitivity of those trends to meteorology, European emissions, and extra-European emissions (represented in the models by the boundary conditions). In this context, the performance statistics of the Polyphemus Eulerian model are evaluated in comparison to seven other CTM. This thesis focuses principally on secondary organic aerosol (SOA) modeling, and their sensitivity to various parameterizations used in the participating CTM.The second part presents applications of the Polyphemus Plume-in-Grid modelto different field measurement campaigns. The first campaign focuses on the month of April 2013, in the vicinity of the Total refinery of Grandpuits, Seine-et-Marne. Model performance is evaluated at the regional scale, with the refinery sources treated with the Plume-in-Grid representation. The refinery contribution to local respirable particle concentrations, in interaction with local sources, is analyzed. Next, the model is applied to two measurement campaigns of the TEMMAS project (“TEledetection, Measure, Modeling of Atmospheric pollutants on industrial sites”), conducted in the vicinity of the Total refinery at La Mède, Bouches-du-Rhône, in September 2015 and February 2016. The performance of the Polyphemus Plume-in-Grid model is evaluated with intensive measurements of mass concentrations, number concentrations, and chemical composition of particles in the vicinity of the refinery

    Le commerce intra-européen des viandes et coproduits du porc : tendances et évolutions récentes des principaux flux et identification des marchés d'intérêt. Le marché des pièces de découpe se place au coeur du commerce intra-européen. Chaque année, près de 8 millions de tonnes de produits du porc sont échangées entre les Etats membres de l'Union européenne (UE), soit environ un tiers de la production de l'UE-28. Parmi ces produits du porc, les pièces de porc représentent 60% des échanges, mais les produits transformés, les lards et les abats contribuent également fortement. Face à l'importance du commerce intra-européen, l'objectif de l'étude est de préciser ses caractéristiques en termes de volume, de valeur et de prix unitaire moyen par produit. L'étude permet de comprendre quelles sont les spécificités du marché européen et de mettre en exergue l'évolution dans le temps des types de produits exportés et des principaux acteurs du commerce. Les statistiques du commerce international d'Eurostat permettent de suivre les flux commerciaux en volume et en valeur entre les pays pour diverses catégories de produits définies par la Nomenclature Combinée à 8 chiffres. L'analyse statistique porte sur la période 2000-2020. Depuis 2000, les échanges de produits du porc n'ont cessé de se développer, en particulier pour les pièces désossées. Ceci est en lien avec une production européenne croissante et la recherche de valeur ajoutée, poussant les opérateurs vers une élaboration des pièces de découpe. Néanmoins, face à l'intensification des exportations vers l'Asie et surtout la Chine ces trois dernières années, à la crise de la Covid-19 en 2020, et à l'introduction de la peste porcine africaine en Allemagne, les dynamiques habituelles sont perturbées. Les cartes du commerce intra-européen ont été redistribuées avec une forte inflexion des exportations des pièces de découpe. Intra-European trade in meat and pork coproducts: recent trends and developments in the main flows and identification of markets of interest The market for meat cuts lies at the heart of intra-European trade. Each year, nearly 8 million tons of pork products are traded between member states of the European Union (EU), or around one-third of the EU-28's production. Among these pork products, pork cuts represent 60% of trade, but processed products, bacon and offal also contribute greatly. Given the importance of intra-European trade, the objective of the study was to specify its volume, value, and average unit price per product. The study helps understand specific characteristics of the EU market and highlight dynamics of the types of products exported and the main trading partners. Eurostat's international trade statistics make it possible to monitor the volume and value of trade flows between countries for a variety of product categories defined by an 8-digit Combined Nomenclature. The statistical analysis covered the period 2000-2020. Since 2000, trade in pork products has grown steadily, especially in boneless cuts. This is in line with increasing EU production and the search for added value, which pushes operators to produce cuts. However, faced with the increase in exports to Asia, especially China, in the past three years, the COVID-19 crisis in 2020, and the appearance of African swine fever in Germany, the usual dynamics have been disrupted. The map of intra-European trade has been reconfigured, with a sharp drop in exports of cuts. The market for meat cuts lies at the heart of intra-European trade. Afin de modéliser l'absorption dans le traitement des transferts radiatifs en milieu atmosphérique, de nombreuses méthodes plus précises et plus rapides ont été développées. La modélisation de la formation du brouillard, où le rayonnement infrarouge joue un rôle très important, nécessite des méthodes numériques suffisamment précises pour calculer le taux de refroidissement. Le brouillard radatif se forme après des conditions de ciel clair, où l'absorption est le processus radiatif dominant, en raison d'un fort refroidissement nocturne. Avec l'augmentation des ressources de calcul et le développement du Calcul Haute Performance, les modèles à bandes, pour effectuer l'intégration sur la longueur des grandeurs radiométriques, sont les plus utilisés. Toutefois, le couplage entre les transferts radiatifs 3-D et la dynamique des fluides reste très coûteux en temps de calcul. Le rayonnement augmente d'environ cinquante pourcent le temps de la simulation pour la dynamique des fluides uniquement. Pour réduire le temps passé dans une itération radiative, une nouvelle paramétrization basée sur les modèles en émissivité a été développée. Cette approche nécessite seulement une résolution de l'ETR contre N_{bandes} x N_{gauss} pour un modèle à N_{bandes} avec N_{gauss} points de quadratures sur chaque bande. Une comparaison avec des données de simulation a été effectuée et cette nouvelle paramétrisation de l'absorption infrarouge a montré sa capacité à prendre en compte les variations des concentrations gazeuses et d'eau liquide. Une étude à travers le couplage entre le modèle développé et le code de CFD Code_Saturne a été réalisée afin valider dynamiquement notre paramétrisation. Enfin une simulation exploratoire a été effectuée sur un domaine 3-D en présence de bâti idéalisé, pour capter les effets radiatifs 3-D dûs aux hétérogénéités horizontales du champ d'eau liquide et des bâtiments The Atmospheric Radiation field has seen the development of more accurate and faster methods to take into account absorption. Modelling fog formation, where Infrared Radiation is involved, requires accurate methods to compute cooling rates. Radiative fog appears with clear sky condition due to a significant cooling during the night where absorption is the dominant processus. Thanks to High Performance Computing, multi-spectral approaches of Radiative Transfer Equation resolution are often used. Nevertheless, the coupling of three-dimensional radiative transfer with fluid dynamics is very computationally expensive. Radiation increases the computation time by around fifty percent over the pure Computational Fluid Dynamics simulation. To reduce the time spent in radiation calculations, a new method using the broadband emissivity has been developed to compute an equivalent absorption coefficient (spectrally integrated). Only one resolution of Radiative Transfer Equation is needed against N_{band} x N_{gauss} for an N_{band} model with N_{gauss} quadrature points on each band. A comparison with simulation data has been done and the new parameterization of Radiative properties shows the ability to handle variations of gases concentrations and liquid water. A dynamical study through the coupling between the infrared radiation model and Code_Saturne has been done to validate our parametrization. Finally the model was tested on a 3-D domain with idealized buildings to catch 3-D infrared radiative effects due to horizontally inhomogenities of the liquid water content field and buildings

    Les principaux objectifs de cette étude, une des premières menée au Liban, étaient d’acquérir une meilleure connaissance des caractéristiques physico-chimiques des particules atmosphériques fines (PF ou PM₂.₅₋₀.₃) et ultrafines (PUF ou PM₀.₃), et d’évaluer in vitro, leur potentiel toxique sur des cellules épithéliales bronchiques humaines (BEAS-2B). L’échantillonnage de PF et de PUF a été mené au Liban à la fois sur un site urbain (Sin El-Fil, du 18 mai au 2 sept. 2011) et un site rural (Beije, du 5 sept. au 28 oct. 2011). Les PF et les PUF ont fait l’objet d’une caractérisation physico-chimique par la détermination de leur composition en éléments et ions inorganiques, carbone total et composés organiques. Ensuite, des échantillons composites de PF et de PUF ont été préparés afin d’exposer les cellules BEAS-2B et évaluer les mécanismes toxiques sous-jacents. Nos résultats ont montré une influence des sources de combustion plus notable pour les particules collectées sur le site urbain, et cela par la présence de carbone total, de composés organiques, de métaux et d’ions inorganiques secondaires à des niveaux de concentration supérieurs à ceux rencontrés sur le site rural. D’autre part, une cytotoxicité plus prononcée a été provoquée par les PUF par comparaison aux PF. Les mécanismes de génotoxicité et de modifications épigénétiques que nous avons étudiés, à savoir l’activation métabolique des composés organiques, la modification de l’expression de trois microARNs, l’activation de la télomérase et l’induction de cassures au niveau de l’ADN, ont été induits par les deux échantillons de PF, avec un effet plus prononcé pour les particules d’origine urbaine. L’exposition des cellules BEAS-2B aux PF collectées, notamment celles d’origine urbaine, pourraient donc favoriser la transformation des cellules pulmonaires en cellules immortelles, et par conséquent, l’initiation ou la promotion de la cancérogenèse broncho-pulmonaire. The objectives of this study, one of the first conducted in Lebanon, were to acquire a better knowledge on the physico-chemical characteristics of atmospheric fine particles (FP or PM₂.₅₋₀.₃) and ultrafine ones (UFP or PM₀.₃), and to assess their potential toxicity. Particles were collected at two coastal sites between may and sept. 2011 at Sin El-Fil (urban site in Greater Beirut), and between sept. and oct. 2011 at Bejje (rural site). After sampling, FP and UFP were subjected to a physico-chemical characterization by quantifying their inorganic ions and elements, total carbon and organic compounds contents. Then, composite samples of FP and UFP were prepared in order to expose bronchial epithelial cells (BEAS-2B) in culture, and therefore to assess the underlying toxic mechanisms. Our results showed an influence of combustion sources especially for urban particles that are richer in total carbon, organic compounds, metals and secondary inorganic ions than rural ones. On the other hand, a more pronounced cytotoxicity was caused by UFP when compared to FP. In addition, epigenetic modifications and genotoxicity mechanisms, such as metabolic activation of organic compounds, changes in three microRNAs expression, telomerase activation and DNA breaks induction, which are potentially involved in the initiation and promotion of carcinogenesis, were induced by the two samples of FP, with a more pronounced effect of urban particles. Exposure of BEAS-2B cells to collected FP, especially urban ones, may therefore induce the transformation of lung cells to immortal cells, and consequently the initiation or the promotion of broncho-pulmonary carcinogenesis.

    Authors: Khiari, Karim;

    La croissance mondiale, économique et industrielle, ainsi que la rapide progression démographique des populations, ont fait augmenter la demande en énergie fossile. Ces dernières années, beaucoup de recherches ont été orientées vers de nouvelles ressources énergétiques qui peuvent remplacer les carburants fossiles conventionnels. Les biocarburants sont des carburants écologiques renouvelables, obtenus grâce à la transformation des matières grasses animales et végétales. Ils sont classés en tant que ressource idéale, non-toxique et renouvelable, substituant avantageusement le Diesel conventionnel. Dans cette optique, nous nous sommes intéressés à la production des biocarburants à partir d’une source végétale, non alimentaire, très abondante dans le bassin méditerranéen, en l’occurrence le pistachier lentisque, par deux procédés, l’un est chimique appelé transestérification et l’autre est thermochimique, la solvolyse. Les caractérisations des biocarburants conformément aux normes en vigueur, ont montré que les propriétés physico-chimiques sont comparables à celles du Diesel conventionnel. Un moteur Diesel monocylindre refroidi à l'air, a été utilisé pour évaluer les caractéristiques de la combustion de ces biocarburants, à 1500 tr/min, sous diverses conditions de charges du moteur. Les caractéristiques de la combustion (pression du cylindre, délai d’auto-inflammation, taux de dégagement de chaleur et durée de combustion) des biocarburants obtenus, sont comparées à celles du Diesel conventionnel. The world economic and industrial growths, as well as the demographic rapid progression, have increased the fossil energy demand. These last years, much of researches were directed towards new energy resources which can replace the conventional fossil fuels. The biofuels are renewable ecological fuels derived from biomass; they are classified as an ideal resource, non-toxic and renewable component with respect to the conventional Diesel. In this context, we were firstly interested to the production of the biofuels starting from a non-edible vegetable source widely available in the Mediterranean basin which is the Pistacia Lentiscus using two processes. The first one is a chemical method named “transesterification” and the second one is a thermochemical procedure called “solvolysis”. The biofuels physicochemical properties, measured via standard methods, are similar to those of Diesel fuel. A single cylinder, naturally aspirated DI Diesel engine is operated at 1500 rpm with either pure produced biofuels or their blends with Diesel fuel for several ratios (50, 30 and 5 v%) and engine load conditions. The combustion parameters, their blends are compared with those of Diesel fuel.
