    Classifying scientific publications according to Field-of-Science (FoS) taxonomies is of crucial importance, allowing funders, publishers, scholars, companies and other stakeholders to organize scientific literature more effectively. Most existing works address classification either at venue level or solely based on the textual content of a research publication. We present SciNoBo, a novel classification system of publications to predefined FoS taxonomies, leveraging the structural properties of a publication and its citations and references organised in a multilayer network. In contrast to other works, our system supports assignments of publications to multiple fields by considering their multidisciplinarity potential. By unifying publications and venues under a common multilayer network structure made up of citing and publishing relationships, classifications at the venue-level can be augmented with publication-level classifications. We evaluate SciNoBo on a publications' dataset extracted from Microsoft Academic Graph and we perform a comparative analysis against a state-of-the-art neural-network baseline. The results reveal that our proposed system is capable of producing high-quality classifications of publications.

    Comparisons of the coverage of current and proposed dark matter searches can help us to understand the context in which a discovery of particle dark matter would be made. In some scenarios, a discovery could be reinforced by information from multiple, complementary types of experiments; in others, only one experiment would see a signal, giving only a partial, more ambiguous picture; in still others, no experiment would be sensitive and new approaches would be needed. In this whitepaper, we present an update to a similar study performed for the European Strategy Briefing Book performed within the dark matter at the Energy Frontier (EF10) Snowmass Topical Group We take as a starting point a set of projections for future collider facilities and a method of graphical comparisons routinely performed for LHC DM searches using simplified models recommended by the LHC Dark Matter Working Group and also used for the BSM and dark matter chapters of the European Strategy Briefing Book. These comparisons can also serve as launching point for cross-frontier discussions about dark matter complementarity.     Este será um estudo transversal, observacional e comparativo de jovens atletas femininas para ajudar a desenvolver duas capacidades físicas essenciais: a força e a flexibilidade. O objetivo será caracterizar descritiva e comparativamente a força e a flexibilidade de praticantes de Ginástica e de Patinagem Artística. Além disso pretendemos perceber em que medida se observavam influências mútuas entre as variáveis avaliadas. Os participantes são 35 atletas femininas de ginástica (9.8 ± 2.05 anos) e 35 atletas femininas de patinagem artística (10,57 ± 2,66 anos). Foram avaliados níveis de força e flexibilidade através da Bateria de Testes do FitEscola. O estudo comparativo paramétrico realizado sinalizou diferenças estatisticamente significativas (p=0,02) em apenas uma prova: no teste de abdominais, o seu valor (t=-2,30) sinaliza melhores resultados no grupo das patinadoras. O estudo correlacional paramétrico (r de Pearson) sinalizou correlações estatisticamente significativas entre as variáveis de desempenho, no entanto apenas encontrámos uma associação positiva (p=0,02) entre a variável grupo e a força abdominal. Os resultados obtidos mostram que não foram observáveis diferenças significativas entre ginastas e patinadoras na maioria das qualidades físicas avaliadas. A exceção foram os resultados obtidos na avaliação da força abdominal e da flexibilidade dos membros inferiores. No entanto, as pequenas diferenças que não chegam a ser significativas devem-se ao facto de nesta idade as atletas ainda não realizarem trabalhos específicos de força, sendo o enfase dado às habilidades motoras coordenativas para que a técnica seja melhorada This will be a cross-sectional, observational and comparative study of young female athletes to help develop two essential physical abilities: strength and flexibility. The objective will be to characterize descriptively and comparatively the strength and flexibility of gymnastics and figure skating practitioners. Furthermore, we intend to understand the extent to which mutual influences were observed between the evaluated variables. Participants are 35 female gymnastics athletes (9.8 ± 2.05 years) and 35 female figure skating athletes (10.57 ± 2.66 years). Levels of strength and flexibility were assessed using the FitEscola Test Battery. The comparative parametric study performed showed statistically significant differences (p=0.02) in only one test: in the sit-up test, its value (t=-2.30) indicates better results in the group of skaters. The parametric correlational study (Pearson's r) signaled statistically significant correlations between the performance variables, however we only found a positive association (p=0.02) between the group variable and abdominal strength. The results obtained show that no significant differences were observed between gymnasts and skaters in most of the physical qualities evaluated. The exception was the results obtained in the assessment of abdominal strength and lower limb flexibility. However, the small differences that are not significant are because, at this age, the athletes still do not perform more specific strength work, with the emphasis being given to coordinating motor skills so that the technique can be improved

It is funded by Trinity College Dublin, DARIAH-EU and the European Commission.This book explores the challenges society faces with big data, through the lens of culture rather than social, political or economic trends, as demonstrated in the words we use, the values that underpin our interactions, and the biases and assumptions that drive us. Focusing on areas such as data and language, data and sensemaking, data and power, data and invisibility, and big data aggregation, it demonstrates that humanities research, focussing on cultural rather than social, political or economic frames of reference for viewing technology, resists mass datafication for a reason, and that those very reasons can be instructive for the critical observation of big data research and innovation.

    According to Open Science (OS) principles, all scientific products generated by research activities (e.g. scientific literature, research data, software, experiments) should be made available as soon as possible ``under terms that enable reuse, redistribution and reproduction of the research and its underlying data and methods''. The effective implementation of Open Science is today hindered by several cultural and technical barriers. Publishing and reward policies are still focused only on research literature (books, journal articles, etc.). Attention to research data is growing in some communities of practice, while the publishing of research packages representing digital experiments is still not a usual procedure. The digital tools and services provided by Research Infrastructures and used by researchers are not connected to the scholarly communication ecosystem: publishing is therefore still a manual action, typically performed by researchers at the end of a research activity. Research products are made available on several scholarly communication data sources (e.g. repositories, archives, which may be institutional repositories, community-specific archives, generic repositories), making it hard to keep up-to-date links between products (e.g. research data re-used by several studies) and to identify those that are relevant for a specific research community or that have been produced using services and tools provided by a given research infrastructures. The OpenAIRE initiative (www.openaire.eu) is a legal entity representing a partnership of more than 50 institutions working to promote and support a sustainable implementation of Open Access and Open Science policies for reproducible science, transparent assessment and omni-comprehensive evaluation. It supports the implementation and alignment of Open Science policies at the international level by developing and promoting the adoption of global open standards and interoperability guidelines to realize a sustainable, participatory, trusted, scholarly communication ecosystem, open to all relevant stakeholders (e.g. research communities, funders, project coordinators) and capable of engaging society and foster innovation. Thanks to the network of National Open Access Desks (NOADs), OpenAIRE supports the implementation of Open Science at the local and national level, supporting researchers, project coordinators, funders and policy makers with training and support activities like workshops and webinars. Furthermore, OpenAIRE features a technical infrastructure that materializes an open, de-duplicated, participatory metadata research graph of interlinked scientific products (including research literature, datasets, software, and other types of research products like workflows, protocols and methods), with access rights information, linked to funding information, research communities and infrastructures. The graph is materialized by collecting more than 100 millions of metadata records from more than 9,000 scholarly data sources world-wide. In addition to the information collected from scholarly data sources, the graph includes metadata information and links between products that are (i) asserted (i.e. claimed) by users of the OpenAIRE Explore portal via the “Linking” functionality, and (ii) inferred by full-text and metadata mining algorithms. In particular, OpenAIRE algorithms enrich the graph with: Links from research products (literature, data, software or products of other types) to project fundings; Links from research products to research infrastructures; Links between research products (e.g. from literature to research software and data); Subjects and keywords based on standard classification schemes; Authors’ affiliations; Countries for which the product is relevant; Research communities for which the product is relevant; Citations. The resulting graph is called the OpenAIRE Research Graph and it is openly available under CC-BY license[5] to programmatic clients via the Develop API: https://develop.openaire.eu. Added-value services are also built on top of the graph to offer Open Science services to different stakeholders of the scholarly communication ecosystem. Researchers can deposit any kind of research product on Zenodo (www.zenodo.org), the OpenAIRE “catch-all” repository, exploit the OpenAIRE Explore portal (https://explore.openaire.eu) to discover research products and check if there is an Open Access version available. Moreover, the Explore portal offers a reporting tool to project coordinators, who can also view statistics about the research products funded by a given project. Content providers, like institutional repositories, have access to a plethora of services that support them in the implementation of interoperability guidelines, in the collection of usage statistics and for metadata enrichment via the Content Provider Dashboard (https://provide.openaire.eu). Research communities can benefit from a dedicated gateway where researchers can find all the products that are relevant to a given community and have easy access to Open Science publishing tools thanks to the Research Community Dashboard (https://connect.openaire.eu). Funders and research infrastructures can monitor their research impact, the compliance to their Open Access mandates, and the uptake of Open Science publishing practices among the researchers they funded via the OpenAIRE Monitor portal (https://monitor.openaire.eu).

    This open access book is about public open spaces, about people, and about the relationship between them and the role of technology in this relationship. It is about different approaches, methods, empirical studies, and concerns about a phenomenon that is increasingly being in the centre of sciences and strategies – the penetration of digital technologies in the urban space. As the main outcome of the CyberParks Project, this book aims at fostering the understanding about the current and future interactions of the nexus people, public spaces and technology. It addresses a wide range of challenges and multidisciplinary perspectives on emerging phenomena related to the penetration of technology in people’s lifestyles - affecting therefore the whole society, and with this, the production and use of public spaces. Cyberparks coined the term cyberpark to describe the mediated public space, that emerging type of urban spaces where nature and cybertechnologies blend together to generate hybrid experiences and enhance quality of life.

    Biased language commonly occurs around topics which are of controversial nature, thus, stirring disagreement between the different involved parties of a discussion. This is due to the fact that for language and its use, specifically, the understanding and use of phrases, the stances are cohesive within the particular groups. However, such cohesiveness does not hold across groups. In collaborative environments or environments where impartial language is desired (e.g. Wikipedia, news media), statements and the language therein should represent equally the involved parties and be neutrally phrased. Biased language is introduced through the presence of inflammatory words or phrases, or statements that may be incorrect or one-sided, thus violating such consensus. In this work, we focus on the specific case of phrasing bias, which may be introduced through specific inflammatory words or phrases in a statement. For this purpose, we propose an approach that relies on a recurrent neural networks in order to capture the inter-dependencies between words in a phrase that introduced bias. We perform a thorough experimental evaluation, where we show the advantages of a neural based approach over competitors that rely on word lexicons and other hand-crafted features in detecting biased language. We are able to distinguish biased statements with a precision of P=0.92, thus significantly outperforming baseline models with an improvement of over 30%. Finally, we release the largest corpus of statements annotated for biased language.     More and more cultural institutions use Linked Data principles to share and connect their collection metadata. In the archival field, initiatives emerge to exploit data contained in archival descriptions and adapt encoding standards to the semantic web. In this context, online authority files can be used to enrich metadata. However, relying on a decentralized network of knowledge bases such as Wikidata, DBpedia or even Viaf has its own difficulties. This paper aims to offer a critical view of these linked authority files by adopting a close-reading approach. Through a practical case study, we intend to identify and illustrate the possibilities and limits of RDF triples compared to institutions' less structured metadata.     Classifying scientific publications according to Field-of-Science (FoS) taxonomies is of crucial importance, allowing funders, publishers, scholars, companies and other stakeholders to organize scientific literature more effectively. Most existing works address classification either at venue level or solely based on the textual content of a research publication. We present SciNoBo, a novel classification system of publications to predefined FoS taxonomies, leveraging the structural properties of a publication and its citations and references organised in a multilayer network. In contrast to other works, our system supports assignments of publications to multiple fields by considering their multidisciplinarity potential. By unifying publications and venues under a common multilayer network structure made up of citing and publishing relationships, classifications at the venue-level can be augmented with publication-level classifications. We evaluate SciNoBo on a publications' dataset extracted from Microsoft Academic Graph and we perform a comparative analysis against a state-of-the-art neural-network baseline. The results reveal that our proposed system is capable of producing high-quality classifications of publications.

    Comparisons of the coverage of current and proposed dark matter searches can help us to understand the context in which a discovery of particle dark matter would be made. In some scenarios, a discovery could be reinforced by information from multiple, complementary types of experiments; in others, only one experiment would see a signal, giving only a partial, more ambiguous picture; in still others, no experiment would be sensitive and new approaches would be needed. In this whitepaper, we present an update to a similar study performed for the European Strategy Briefing Book performed within the dark matter at the Energy Frontier (EF10) Snowmass Topical Group We take as a starting point a set of projections for future collider facilities and a method of graphical comparisons routinely performed for LHC DM searches using simplified models recommended by the LHC Dark Matter Working Group and also used for the BSM and dark matter chapters of the European Strategy Briefing Book. These comparisons can also serve as launching point for cross-frontier discussions about dark matter complementarity.     Este será um estudo transversal, observacional e comparativo de jovens atletas femininas para ajudar a desenvolver duas capacidades físicas essenciais: a força e a flexibilidade. O objetivo será caracterizar descritiva e comparativamente a força e a flexibilidade de praticantes de Ginástica e de Patinagem Artística. Além disso pretendemos perceber em que medida se observavam influências mútuas entre as variáveis avaliadas. Os participantes são 35 atletas femininas de ginástica (9.8 ± 2.05 anos) e 35 atletas femininas de patinagem artística (10,57 ± 2,66 anos). Foram avaliados níveis de força e flexibilidade através da Bateria de Testes do FitEscola. O estudo comparativo paramétrico realizado sinalizou diferenças estatisticamente significativas (p=0,02) em apenas uma prova: no teste de abdominais, o seu valor (t=-2,30) sinaliza melhores resultados no grupo das patinadoras. O estudo correlacional paramétrico (r de Pearson) sinalizou correlações estatisticamente significativas entre as variáveis de desempenho, no entanto apenas encontrámos uma associação positiva (p=0,02) entre a variável grupo e a força abdominal. Os resultados obtidos mostram que não foram observáveis diferenças significativas entre ginastas e patinadoras na maioria das qualidades físicas avaliadas. A exceção foram os resultados obtidos na avaliação da força abdominal e da flexibilidade dos membros inferiores. No entanto, as pequenas diferenças que não chegam a ser significativas devem-se ao facto de nesta idade as atletas ainda não realizarem trabalhos específicos de força, sendo o enfase dado às habilidades motoras coordenativas para que a técnica seja melhorada This will be a cross-sectional, observational and comparative study of young female athletes to help develop two essential physical abilities: strength and flexibility. The objective will be to characterize descriptively and comparatively the strength and flexibility of gymnastics and figure skating practitioners. Furthermore, we intend to understand the extent to which mutual influences were observed between the evaluated variables. Participants are 35 female gymnastics athletes (9.8 ± 2.05 years) and 35 female figure skating athletes (10.57 ± 2.66 years). Levels of strength and flexibility were assessed using the FitEscola Test Battery. The comparative parametric study performed showed statistically significant differences (p=0.02) in only one test: in the sit-up test, its value (t=-2.30) indicates better results in the group of skaters. The parametric correlational study (Pearson's r) signaled statistically significant correlations between the performance variables, however we only found a positive association (p=0.02) between the group variable and abdominal strength. The results obtained show that no significant differences were observed between gymnasts and skaters in most of the physical qualities evaluated. The exception was the results obtained in the assessment of abdominal strength and lower limb flexibility. However, the small differences that are not significant are because, at this age, the athletes still do not perform more specific strength work, with the emphasis being given to coordinating motor skills so that the technique can be improved
