Given the dynamic rate of change in the OA books business models landscape, the OPERAS Open Access Business Models Special Interest Group launched a survey in 2021 to 1) improve our understanding of the scholarly publishing landscape and of the challenges that publishers face in the context of publishing OA monographs; and 2) to identify main trends (including opportunities and challenges) and the knowledge of collaborative funding and infrastructure models in OA publishing in Social Science and the Humanities. This white paper updates and expands an earlier version published in 2021, which presented the preliminary analysis of the findings. Despite a small sample of presses meaning that no strong trends ought to be discussed, several insights were drawn and should be considered important directions for the future. Key findings in the report have been grouped into three main areas: collaboration, funding, and support. The report found that, although not opposed to the idea, a majority of presses do not engage in collaboration, specifically collaborative models for shared infrastructure, mainly due to the lack of knowledge and information, or perceived lack of need. This indicates that, for OA books, we are still at the early stage of the adoption curve for collaborative shared infrastructure. In terms of funding, most publishers perceive themselves to be somewhat sustainable. For institutional publishers, parent organisations are crucial as providers of financial or non-monetary support of OA. In addition, most publishers stress the need to have more resources and rely on more than one funding source, including grants and subsidies. The report found that awareness-raising and targeted support and training could be used to engage the presses but further incentivisation may be required to encourage publishers to collaborate more widely. We believe that the insights from this white paper may be interesting to a number of projects, such as DIAMAS, OPERAS-PLUS, and Palomera and have presented areas for further research and more specific actionable points for these projects.

SSHOC-NL is a collaboration between the social sciences and humanities that is cutting edge and unparalleled internationally. It will make it possible for researchers to securely and ethically link and analyse a huge range of data such as historical records, text data, images, survey data, and social media data. This will help them address some of the most pressing issues that society faces such as polarisation, social inequalities, and our changing environment. These issues are complex and require lots of different perspectives to be brought together in order to find solutions. SSHOC-NL builds the infrastructure for researchers to do that. This document is the grant proposal submitted to NWO Large-Scale Research Infrastructure: National Roadmap consortia 2021.

The Social Sciences and Humanities communities needed a central point to gather and exchange information about their tools, services, and datasets. Although plenty of project websites, service registries, and data repositories existed, they were mostly fragmented. The lack of contextualisation connecting these assets and offering domain-relevant means to discuss and enrich them was evident. Also, there was a need to digitalise this research domain which, in most cases, was not yet digital native. This siloed environment was the challenge SSHOC set out to bridge in January 2019. The solution to solve this problems was found in the SSH Open Marketplace, delivered in 2022. It is a discovery platform supporting researchers in the multi-faceted domain of humanities and social sciences at every step of the research data lifecycle. Keynote presentation at Aalto's DARIAH Day on 30 November 2022, focused on the concrete ways in which DARIAH-EU lifts up scholars to enable them to do cutting-edge SSH research.

Keynote talk given at the DH_Budapest_2022 & DARIAH Days conference, 23-25 November 2022 at ELTE in Budapest, Hungary. This talk explains in concrete details how the DARIAH Infrastructure acts as a force multiplier for Social Science and Humanities Research, enabling researchers to conduct groundbreaking research in an open, European environment.

The group has been active since June 2020. The group was formed to investigate the potential of developing an Application Profile for excavation data, explore the current state of excavation data modelling and propose a roadmap for further activities. During the ARIADNEplus project, group participants have convened eight times, organised a virtual workshop on excavation data modelling and prepared two presentations, one at an ARIADNEplus meeting and another targeting wider audiences (EAA2022). The entire work of the group is summarised in the present report and attached annexes.

Oral archives and digital technologies have gone hand-in-hand for a very long time. Both sides benefit from this interdisciplinary junction: technology enhances the preservation and diffusion of oral materials, while exploiting them to develop cutting-edge tools for their treatment. This chapter deals with an Italian instantiation of this mutual relationship: the Archivio Vi.Vo. project. Offering innovative solutions concerning metadata, audio restoration, description, and access, Archivio Vi.Vo. aims to build an online platform to host the oral archives from Tuscany. The project is powered by CLARIN-IT, which guarantees its compliance with standards and offers resources for data access and discoverability. Archivio Vi.Vo. has not been built from scratch: it is instead a cross-fertilization of previous initiatives and research projects (e.g., the Gra.fo project). Moreover, the chapter presents the related, contemporary work of a multidisciplinary group striving to synthesize a Vademecum for future generations of oral archive researchers. Lastly, a brief list of tentative ideas for future developments of the Archivio Vi.Vo. platform will be presented.

This chapter presents the Digital Humanities Course Registry (DHCR) as part of CLARIN’s Technical and Knowledge Infrastructure. The DHCR is an initia-tive started to provide an overview of the growing number of training activities in the field of Digital Humanities around the world. The goal of the registry, which is run jointly with DARIAH, is to collect information on the rich offerings of different courses with the help of the community and to delineate an up-to-date picture of the teaching and training opportunities in the field. First, we will introduce the DHCR, its goals, genesis, and main features. Then we will elaborate on the DHCR’s position within CLARIN’s Technical Infrastructure and how it helps to address CLARIN’s agenda and strategic goals in terms of Technical Infrastruc-ture, Open Science, and especially the FAIR Principles. Particular attention will be paid to the results of a cross-national hackathon using data and metadata from the DHCR. Furthermore, we will examine the position of the DHCR within CLAR-IN’s Knowledge Infrastructure, which includes training and education.

This is the fourth discussion paper produced by the UK-Ireland Digital Humanities Network in consultation with the wider Digital Humanities (DH) Community in the two countries and beyond. It summarises the findings of the fourth workshop organised by the network, and offers recommendations based on these findings.

We consider a (4+D)–dimensional Friedmann–Robertson–Walker type universe having complex scale factor R + iRI, where R is the scale factor corresponding to the usual 4–dimensional Universe while iRI is that of D–dimensional space. It is then compared with (4+D)–dimensional Kaluza–Klein Cosmology having two scale factors R and a(= iRI). It is shown that the rate of compactification of higher dimension depends on extra dimension ‘D’. The Wheeler–DeWitt equation is constructed and general solution is obtained. It is found that for D = 6 (i.e. in 10 dimension), the Wheeler–DeWitt equation is symmetric under the exchange of RI« R.
