This deliverable presents the interim Dissemination and Communication Plan and Report 2 for the ARIADNEplus project. The report covers the second 18-month period (M18-M36, i.e. July 2020- December 2021) for the dissemination and communication activities undertaken by the lead team at PIN Scrl and all the (40+) partners who are involved in the project. During the first period, the project partners and their organisations were the main focus for dissemination and communication, with this policy continuing for the second period (M19-M36). Information and news have continued to be published on the website, which is aimed at a wider audience, with other methods of communication which have included partner’s mailing lists, social media channels and the Project Newsletter. There have not been any training events scheduled for period 2 and Transnational Access has remained suspended due to the current travel problems. Most of the activity by the project partners has been focussed upon the ingestion and publication of their datasets which started to appear in the public Portal from April onwards. It was agreed that the best method of dissemination would be national campaigns led by each of the partners who would target their local archaeological communities through their preferred communication channels when their datasets were published, backed up by the Project team via the website and Twitter. The ARIADNEplus website has met its M36 targets with Twitter and Facebook being major sources of referral along with partner websites and E-RIHS, the Research Infrastructure for Heritage Science (who has also been involved in the development of the Application Profile for this sub-domain). The updated Home page design was launched at the start of Period 2 with new content being added in the form of a Training Hub (providing training resources) and also a couple of webinars being made available. The Newsletter has a good opening rate at over 40%, and the subscriber list has grown slowly but steadily. Slideshare and Zenodo have also proven to be effective for promoting the project objectives with the three translations of the Guidelines to “Farify data management and make data reusable” into Czech, Portuguese and Turkish have generated over 1,000 views and 940 downloads. Twitter continues to be the most effective channel for dissemination. The Partners have participated in 20 conferences and events, giving presentations and taking part in round tables and workshops including CAA and EAA which were held virtually as were the great majority of events during this time. ARIADNEplus has also produced eleven articles and papers, the most recent drawing on the TNA training completed at the start of 2020 on CIDOC-CRM at PIN. The Communication and dissemination plan for M37-M48 involves an intensification of activities as well as specific targeting of the sub-domains as more data appears in the Portal, the pilots are published and training materials are prepared for a new section in the Training Hub. CAA and EAA are the two major conferences targeted by the project, along with DH2022 in Japan as this will promote ARIADNEplus in Asia.

Tools registries have a long history in Digital Humanities, contributing both to the cataloguing efforts of the resources used by DHers and thus to their discoverability. Developed under DARIAH coordination within the Social Sciences and Humanities Open Cloud (SSHOC) project, the SSH Open Marketplace - https://marketplace.sshopencloud.eu/ - supports SSH researchers at every step of the research data lifecycle, pooling and harmonising their key tools and services, datasets, training materials, workflows and publications. Resources are contextualised to maximise serendipity and possibility of reuse for the assets showcased. During this presentation, we will address not only what you as historians can take from this collective service, but how you can contribute and help it grow.

Text, techné and tenure: what remains out of scope of research evaluation in Humanities disciplines and how to change it for the better? (Slides presented at the OAI12 conference: https://oai.events/) Peer review is central scholarly practice that carries fundamental paradoxes from its inception. On the one hand, it is very difficult to open up peer review for the sake of empirical analysis, as it usually happens in closed black boxes of publishing and other gatekeeping workflows that are embedded in a myriad of disciplinary cultures, each of which comes very different, and usually competing notions of excellence. On the other hand, it is a practice that carries an enormous weight in terms of gatekeeping; shaping disciplines, publication patterns and power relations within academia. This central role of peer review alone explains why it is crucial to study to better understand situated evaluation practices, and to continually rethink them to strive for their best, and least imperfect (or reasonably imperfect) instances. How the notion of excellence and other peer review proxies are constructed and (re)negotiated in everyday practices across the SSH disciplines; who are involved in the processes and who remain out; what are the boundaries of peer review in terms of inclusiveness with content types; and how the processes are aligned or misaligned to research realities? What are the underlying reasons behind the persistence of certain proxies in the system and what are emerging trends and future innovations? To gain an in-depth understanding of these questions, as part of the H2020 project OPERAS-P, our task force collected and analysed 32 in-depth interviews with scholars about their motivations, challenges and experiences with novel practices in scholarly writing and in peer-review. The presentation will showcase the results of this study. Focus will be on the conflict between the richness of contemporary scholarship and the prestige economy that defines our current academic evaluation culture. The encoded and pseudonymized interview transcripts that form the basis of our analysis will be shared as open data in a certified data repository together with a rich documentation of the process so that our interpretations, conclusions and the resulting recommendations are clearly delineable from the rich input we had been working with and which are thus openly reusable for other purposes.

The SSH Open Marketplace (https://marketplace.sshopencloud.eu/), built as part of the Social Sciences and Humanities Open Cloud (SSHOC) project, is a discovery portal for the SSH research community comprising tools & services, training materials, datasets, publications and workflows. Designed as a catalogue contextualising its resources by creating links between them and showcasing their use in research scenarios (workflows), the interfaces of the SSH Open Marketplace are crucial for the discovery and reusability of its content. How does one build convenient, reliable, and accurate interfaces for a discovery portal? Which audiences (human, machines) and technologies have to be addressed by the interfaces and in which priority? What does it mean to be user-friendly for a web service in the world of research infrastructures? Three interface dimensions will guide our presentation of the beta version of the SSH Open Marketplace: The human individual interface dimension or user experience (UX) design and user interface (UI) (Graphical User Interface: https://marketplace.sshopencloud.eu/): SSH Open Marketplace is built to be a user-friendly portal designed on the principles of Human Center Designed (HCD) for the SSH community, with a low entry threshold for users' contributions. The design of the SSH Open Marketplace, developed by the Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Centre (PSNC) and implemented by the Austrian Centre for Digital Humanities and Cultural Heritage (ACDH-CH), has been built consulting target user communities. But still we seek for further feedback from the attendees of the demo session to identify possible improvements. The machine-readable interface dimension or REST Application Programming Interface (API documentation: https://s.gwdg.de/pymPIp): the SSH Open Marketplace includes a REST API allowing experienced users to search and retrieve detailed information and even to add information. Particularly the last aspect would be of interest as to discuss how to provide easy means for adding new content to the marketplace using its API, which would likely be of interest for institutional users. A hackathon relying on some of the API functions is planned for September 2021, and our demo will also allow attendees to gain an overview of the hackathon tasks or to announce interest in taking part. The social-structural interface dimensions or gateway for SSH resources in the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC): https://marketplace.eosc-portal.eu/: the SSH Open Marketplace is a contribution to the SSH branch of the EOSC, and as such it can be seen as a communication interface between the EOSC, its infrastructures and the SSH research communities interested in digital methods and practices.

One of the most widely investigated computational methods in material culture enquiry, and specifically in architecture, archaeology and built heritage, regards the application of computation for the unsupervised annotation and classification of large datasets, or big unstructured data that otherwise would require a highly laborious supervised marking and analysis process by trained and skilled experts. In many of these operations, computer vision methods are used to analyse datasets in order to annotate them, e.g., the geo-reference of series of aerial photos, or the semantic analysis of digital assets in large repositories of libraries, museums, etc. Currently, computer vision-enabled operations can successfully classify objects by high level attributes across basic level categories, e.g., a chair, vase, column (Wang 2017). Arguably, the next step in the development of these methods is their application for unsupervised semantic analysis of more complex digital representations of objects, in terms of shape, but also to classify variations of geometric configurations that belong to complex assemblages of larger scale, i.e., architecture styles of buildings. This is typically done mostly by experts who identify a building’s historic phases and components chronologically based on spatial and social context, technique of production, provenance, style and geometric or material features, e.g., colour (Historic England 2021). The application of logic and symbolic analysis through recursive mechanisms in architecture, has been used on several occasions in the past – by some researchers for plan configuration classification of historical architecture, for didactic purposes, while by others for the analysis of the unique characteristics of the design process of an architect who was prominent in the history of architecture (Steadman and Mitchell 2010; Stiny 2000). Contextualised in the field of computation analytical methods in architecture, this paper will present the development of an online 3D interface for architectural annotation of built heritage and the study of monuments and buildings (https://annfass-srv.cs.ucy.ac.cy). This 3D interface assists in identifying a building’s architectural components (e.g., arch, dome), understanding stylistic influences (e.g., Gothic, Byzantine), understanding its history, and in comparing it to other buildings of the same period. Literature in computational methods for the analysis of building features and shape analysis relies on 2D representations, e.g., images, architectural drawings, floor plans etc., but recent technological advances have allowed researchers to acquire high quality 3D data (e.g., point clouds, meshes etc.) of monuments ‘as built’, which are more informative and descriptive representations than drawings or floor plans. Wide access to digital 3D documentation and representation methods and the evolution of deep learning methods in processing 3D data have been the source of inspiration for the development of the digital interface discussed in the paper. This online 3D interface relies on deep learning, using 3D Convolutional Neural Networks, to classify the architectural stylistic influences of heritage buildings and historically complex monuments with multiple construction phases based on 3D analysis instead of 2D image-based analysis. This process can contribute to educational activities, as well as facilitate the automated classification of datasets in digital repositories for scholarly research in digital humanities. {"references": ["Historic England, 2020. Project summary The digital age offers challenges and opportunities for completing research on Europe’s multilingual and interconnected literary heritage. Even though many resources are currently available in digital libraries, a lack of standardisation hinders their access and reuse. The EU funded CLS INFRA project will help build the shared and sustainable infrastructure needed to undertake literary studies in the digital age. The project will align these diverse resources with each other, with the tools needed to interrogate them, and with a widened base of users. The resulting improvements will benefit researchers by bridging gaps between greater and lesserresourced communities in computational literary studies and beyond, ultimately offering opportunities to create new research and insight into our shared and varied European cultural heritage. Executive summary This deliverable presents the first version of Data Management Plan for the Horizon 2020 project CLS INFRA. To maximise the potential of the present document as a living and functional project management tool, the team decided to accommodate to this present DMP all sorts of digital scholarly objects that qualify as data or software and that are deemed worthy to be captured and preserved for reuse. Following the Horizon 2020 Data Management Plan template and guidelines, the document first defines the scope and selection criteria for project outputs (1.1.) and provides a structured overview of data and software collected, created, and (re)used for and by the CLS INFRA project. The second, FAIR data chapter describes the provisions made or envisioned to accommodate the FAIR principles and thereby future usage of CLS INFRA data resources. The third chapter provides a similar FAIR assessment of software resources. The fourth chapter describes roles, responsibilities and practical commitments and safeguards that are in place for the successful implementation of the DMP. The fifth chapter covers data security aspects. In the final chapter, we accommodated discussions around ethical aspects such as safeguards for personal data handling and safeguards for adherence to intellectual property rights are discussed. While preparing the DMP, special attention has been given to domain and disciplinary specificities. The CLS INFRA Data Management Plan is a living document and shall be updated continuously throughout the project in line with the new information gathered via conducting the project activities
