This impact is particularly visible in the correlation of neighboring pixels. Among the numerous parameters involved in the definition of a source, the processing pipeline has been identified as the most impactful on the nature of the generated noise.We present here an exploratory study, opening a path towards an unsupervised method for image source identification, based on correlations of the heteroscedastic noise of the developped images, extracted from an noise estimation of the images. Several estimation methods are studied, as well as several similarity measures between correlations.; De récents travaux d'analyse de la source d'une image naturelle, liés à des problématiques en forensique comme la stéganalyse ou la détection de deep fake, indiquent que la chaîne d'acquisition et de traitement impacte la nature du bruit présent dans les images résultantes. Parmi les nombreux paramètres entrant en compte dans la définition d'une source d'images, la chaîne de traitement a été identifiée comme celui ayant le plus d'impact sur la nature du bruit généré. Nous présentons dans ce travail exploratoire la preuve que l'identification du développement d'une image basée sur la corrélation de ce bruit est possible. Notre approche, non supervisée et gloutonne, présente des résultats prometteurs. Pour ce faire, nous étudions plusieurs méthodes d'estimation du bruit, ainsi que différentes mesures de similarités entre les corrélations.

In this work, we point out the dangers associated with this attack by showing that in an uncontrolled environment, the variance can be elevated simply by using a different JPEG compressor. If not careful, the steganalyst can wrongly misclassify cover images. In order to deal with the diversity associated to the devices or softwares generating JPEGs, we propose in this paper to build a deep learning detector trained on a huge dataset of downloaded images. Experimental evaluation shows that such a detector can provide operational false alarms as small as 10^{−4} , while still correctly classifying 90% of stego images. Furthermore, it is shown that this performance is directly applicable to other image datasets. As a side product, we indicate that the attack is not applicable to images developed with a specific JPEG compressor based on the trunc quantization function.

This chapter presents the methodological framework developed for the economic assessment of NBS for water-related risks and its application to seven case studies. We particularly develop methods for the evaluation of implementation and opportunity costs, the assessment of the reduction of damage costs, and the monetary value of co-benefits. The study confirms that the cost of implementation and maintenance of NBS strategies is lower than the cost of grey solutions for the same level of water risk management, emphasizing the better cost-effectiveness of these solutions. Benefits in terms of avoided damages are however generally not sufficient to cover investment and maintenance costs. Co-benefits represent the largest share of the value generated by NBS strategies. The overall cost-benefit analysis implemented in four cases, is positive in three case studies and negative in one. This confirms the importance to carry out thorough economic assessments for the elaboration of Natural Assurance Schemes.

In this study, the trained steganalyzer uses state of the art deep-learning architecture prone to better generalization than feature-based steganalysis. Different sources such as the sensor model, the ISO sensitivity, the processing pipeline and the content, are investigated. Our conclusions are that, on one hand, deep learning steganalysis is still very sensitive to the CSM, on the other hand, the holistic strategy leverages the good generalization properties of deep learning to reduce the CSM with a relatively small number of training samples.

While digital data-hiding is a relatively new area of research, our motivation in this project has been rooted in the growing gap between the academic community and the operational needs of a "real-life" scenario of object inspection in order to UNCOVER the presence of data secretly hidden. As well as an oversight into the structure of UNCOVER, our paper presents an empirical study on the impact of specifically training a detection method for a given data-hiding scheme, the socalled Stego-Source Mismatch, as an example of unexplored issues that raises important and mostly ignored consequences within the operational context the UNCOVER project targets.

Despite all recent achievements, engineers are still facing technical challenges for the assessment of indoor propagation mechanisms at extremely short wavelengths. In this paper, a mathematical-based deterministic Ray-Tracing Model (RTM) has been derived for the prediction of Path Loss (PL) within a hospital patient room while ensuring users freedom of mobility. Directional, and omnidirectional radiation patterns have been considered at both transmitting and receiving ends of the channel, respectively. For the RTM validation, broadband propagation measurements have been conducted under Line-Of-Sight (LOS) condition. The predicted and measured channel responses are found to be in a good match for all RX positions throughout the room. Furthermore, both predicted and measured path loss exponents (n) are found to be about 1.55. The predicted n agrees with the values reported in the literature.

A.; Gamblin, O.; Reimold, Wolf Uwe; Koeberl, Christian;ABSTRACTThe most recent comprehensive database of Martian impact craters was the result of the work of impact crater scientists (S.J. Robbins and B.M. Hynek) who carefully examined the available high-resolution imagery of Mars. Building on this previous work, we present the result of an alternative approach involving 56 planetary scientists and trained students. A web platform was designed for this purpose. All impact craters larger than 1 km in diameter were classified according to a simplified classification scheme, recording the primary or secondary nature of the crater, and the morphology of the ejecta (single, double, or multiple layered ejecta rampart sinuous [LERS], or low-aspect-ratio layer ejecta [LARLE]). In total, 8445 LERS craters, 24,530 partially buried craters, 55,309 secondary craters, and 288,155 craters in the category “standard” were identified. Our assessment differs for 8145 entries in the original database compiled by Robbins and Hynek, which are not considered to be impact structures. In this work, ~39,000 secondary craters have been associated with 108 primary craters. Coupled to the existing database, the database we propose here offers a complementary way to investigate the geological history of Mars. More specifically, the completion of layered ejecta crater morphologies down to 1 km and the connection established between secondary and primary impact crater sources will allow the implementation of statistical studies to reveal the spatial and temporal evolution of the impacted material characteristics. Thanks to the simplified classification we performed here, this version of the database can be easily used as a training data set for crater identification algorithms based on machine-learning techniques with the aim to identify smaller impact craters and to automatically define their morphological characteristics. Since it is not possible to confirm an impact structure from remote-sensing data alone, any Martian impact database at this stage remains subjective, and its assessment must be facilitated. The interface we developed for this participative project can be directly used for this purpose and for continuous updates and improvements of this work, in particular, with the latest high-resolution imagery releases such as the CTX global mosaic by J.L. Dickson and others, but also as a platform for building specific databases of craters or any other structures located in a particular region of interest.

Simulation is a key step for developing these new vehicles. System simulation tools as Simcenter Amesim includes ready-to-use multi-physics libraries in that perspective. A new library is being created based on the Energetic Macroscopic Representation formalism to speed-up the battery electric vehicles (BEV) development process. The paper presents the BEV multi-level simulation where the simulations were done using 3 different levels for the battery models. By using “plug & play” method different BEV model configurations can be built in a fast, precise and systematic way.

In surveying the research literature, the paper identifies a gap between studies from economical, social or socio-technical angles, and presentations of detailed technical solutions. Most cases study larger, 'monotechnological' platforms, rather than local platforms that lend components from several technologies. Almost no literature takes a design perspective. Rooted in Sharing and Caring, an EU COST Action (network), the paper presents work to systematically map out functionalities across domains of the sharing economy. The 145 technical mechanisms we collected illustrate how most platforms are depending on a limited number of functionalities that lack in terms of holding communities together. The paper points to the necessity of a better terminology and concludes by discussing challenges and opportunities for the design of future and more inclusive platforms.

This model was validated using 3D finite element model through ANSYS Workbench. The results have shown good agreement for steel and composite while it was not the case for polymeric substrates. Moreover, an experimental procedure for analysing the vibrational response of adhesively composite double lap joints is presented in this paper. The Impulse Excitation Technique (IET) has been adopted in order to measure the resonant frequencies. Two types of substrates were examined: steel and orthotropic glass-polypropylene composite and the adhesive used is a resin/epoxy constituent. Three different substrates thicknesses and three different overlap lengths were examined. Then, the experimental results were compared with numerical simulations using 3D finite element model through ANSYS Workbench. The results have shown good agreement between both models. Finally, the analytical model was applied to compare the experimental results in the scope of a parametric study towards the influence that some geometrical and mechanical properties of the adherents have on the vibrational response of the structure.

This impact is particularly visible in the correlation of neighboring pixels. Among the numerous parameters involved in the definition of a source, the processing pipeline has been identified as the most impactful on the nature of the generated noise.We present here an exploratory study, opening a path towards an unsupervised method for image source identification, based on correlations of the heteroscedastic noise of the developped images, extracted from an noise estimation of the images. Several estimation methods are studied, as well as several similarity measures between correlations.; De récents travaux d'analyse de la source d'une image naturelle, liés à des problématiques en forensique comme la stéganalyse ou la détection de deep fake, indiquent que la chaîne d'acquisition et de traitement impacte la nature du bruit présent dans les images résultantes. Parmi les nombreux paramètres entrant en compte dans la définition d'une source d'images, la chaîne de traitement a été identifiée comme celui ayant le plus d'impact sur la nature du bruit généré. Nous présentons dans ce travail exploratoire la preuve que l'identification du développement d'une image basée sur la corrélation de ce bruit est possible. Notre approche, non supervisée et gloutonne, présente des résultats prometteurs. Pour ce faire, nous étudions plusieurs méthodes d'estimation du bruit, ainsi que différentes mesures de similarités entre les corrélations.

In this work, we point out the dangers associated with this attack by showing that in an uncontrolled environment, the variance can be elevated simply by using a different JPEG compressor. If not careful, the steganalyst can wrongly misclassify cover images. In order to deal with the diversity associated to the devices or softwares generating JPEGs, we propose in this paper to build a deep learning detector trained on a huge dataset of downloaded images. Experimental evaluation shows that such a detector can provide operational false alarms as small as 10^{−4} , while still correctly classifying 90% of stego images. Furthermore, it is shown that this performance is directly applicable to other image datasets. As a side product, we indicate that the attack is not applicable to images developed with a specific JPEG compressor based on the trunc quantization function.

This chapter presents the methodological framework developed for the economic assessment of NBS for water-related risks and its application to seven case studies. We particularly develop methods for the evaluation of implementation and opportunity costs, the assessment of the reduction of damage costs, and the monetary value of co-benefits. The study confirms that the cost of implementation and maintenance of NBS strategies is lower than the cost of grey solutions for the same level of water risk management, emphasizing the better cost-effectiveness of these solutions. Benefits in terms of avoided damages are however generally not sufficient to cover investment and maintenance costs. Co-benefits represent the largest share of the value generated by NBS strategies. The overall cost-benefit analysis implemented in four cases, is positive in three case studies and negative in one. This confirms the importance to carry out thorough economic assessments for the elaboration of Natural Assurance Schemes.

In this study, the trained steganalyzer uses state of the art deep-learning architecture prone to better generalization than feature-based steganalysis. Different sources such as the sensor model, the ISO sensitivity, the processing pipeline and the content, are investigated. Our conclusions are that, on one hand, deep learning steganalysis is still very sensitive to the CSM, on the other hand, the holistic strategy leverages the good generalization properties of deep learning to reduce the CSM with a relatively small number of training samples.

While digital data-hiding is a relatively new area of research, our motivation in this project has been rooted in the growing gap between the academic community and the operational needs of a "real-life" scenario of object inspection in order to UNCOVER the presence of data secretly hidden. As well as an oversight into the structure of UNCOVER, our paper presents an empirical study on the impact of specifically training a detection method for a given data-hiding scheme, the socalled Stego-Source Mismatch, as an example of unexplored issues that raises important and mostly ignored consequences within the operational context the UNCOVER project targets.

Despite all recent achievements, engineers are still facing technical challenges for the assessment of indoor propagation mechanisms at extremely short wavelengths. In this paper, a mathematical-based deterministic Ray-Tracing Model (RTM) has been derived for the prediction of Path Loss (PL) within a hospital patient room while ensuring users freedom of mobility. Directional, and omnidirectional radiation patterns have been considered at both transmitting and receiving ends of the channel, respectively. For the RTM validation, broadband propagation measurements have been conducted under Line-Of-Sight (LOS) condition. The predicted and measured channel responses are found to be in a good match for all RX positions throughout the room. Furthermore, both predicted and measured path loss exponents (n) are found to be about 1.55. The predicted n agrees with the values reported in the literature.

A.; Gamblin, O.; Reimold, Wolf Uwe; Koeberl, Christian;ABSTRACTThe most recent comprehensive database of Martian impact craters was the result of the work of impact crater scientists (S.J. Robbins and B.M. Hynek) who carefully examined the available high-resolution imagery of Mars. Building on this previous work, we present the result of an alternative approach involving 56 planetary scientists and trained students. A web platform was designed for this purpose. All impact craters larger than 1 km in diameter were classified according to a simplified classification scheme, recording the primary or secondary nature of the crater, and the morphology of the ejecta (single, double, or multiple layered ejecta rampart sinuous [LERS], or low-aspect-ratio layer ejecta [LARLE]). In total, 8445 LERS craters, 24,530 partially buried craters, 55,309 secondary craters, and 288,155 craters in the category “standard” were identified. Our assessment differs for 8145 entries in the original database compiled by Robbins and Hynek, which are not considered to be impact structures. In this work, ~39,000 secondary craters have been associated with 108 primary craters. Coupled to the existing database, the database we propose here offers a complementary way to investigate the geological history of Mars. More specifically, the completion of layered ejecta crater morphologies down to 1 km and the connection established between secondary and primary impact crater sources will allow the implementation of statistical studies to reveal the spatial and temporal evolution of the impacted material characteristics. Thanks to the simplified classification we performed here, this version of the database can be easily used as a training data set for crater identification algorithms based on machine-learning techniques with the aim to identify smaller impact craters and to automatically define their morphological characteristics. Since it is not possible to confirm an impact structure from remote-sensing data alone, any Martian impact database at this stage remains subjective, and its assessment must be facilitated. The interface we developed for this participative project can be directly used for this purpose and for continuous updates and improvements of this work, in particular, with the latest high-resolution imagery releases such as the CTX global mosaic by J.L. Dickson and others, but also as a platform for building specific databases of craters or any other structures located in a particular region of interest.

Simulation is a key step for developing these new vehicles. System simulation tools as Simcenter Amesim includes ready-to-use multi-physics libraries in that perspective. A new library is being created based on the Energetic Macroscopic Representation formalism to speed-up the battery electric vehicles (BEV) development process. The paper presents the BEV multi-level simulation where the simulations were done using 3 different levels for the battery models. By using “plug & play” method different BEV model configurations can be built in a fast, precise and systematic way.

In surveying the research literature, the paper identifies a gap between studies from economical, social or socio-technical angles, and presentations of detailed technical solutions. Most cases study larger, 'monotechnological' platforms, rather than local platforms that lend components from several technologies. Almost no literature takes a design perspective. Rooted in Sharing and Caring, an EU COST Action (network), the paper presents work to systematically map out functionalities across domains of the sharing economy. The 145 technical mechanisms we collected illustrate how most platforms are depending on a limited number of functionalities that lack in terms of holding communities together. The paper points to the necessity of a better terminology and concludes by discussing challenges and opportunities for the design of future and more inclusive platforms.

This model was validated using 3D finite element model through ANSYS Workbench. The results have shown good agreement for steel and composite while it was not the case for polymeric substrates. Moreover, an experimental procedure for analysing the vibrational response of adhesively composite double lap joints is presented in this paper. The Impulse Excitation Technique (IET) has been adopted in order to measure the resonant frequencies. Two types of substrates were examined: steel and orthotropic glass-polypropylene composite and the adhesive used is a resin/epoxy constituent. Three different substrates thicknesses and three different overlap lengths were examined. Then, the experimental results were compared with numerical simulations using 3D finite element model through ANSYS Workbench. The results have shown good agreement between both models. Finally, the analytical model was applied to compare the experimental results in the scope of a parametric study towards the influence that some geometrical and mechanical properties of the adherents have on the vibrational response of the structure.
