AbstractGLAM organizations have been digitizing their collections and making them available for the public for several decades. Recent methods for publishing digital collections such as “GLAM Labs” and “Collections as Data” provide guidelines for the application of computational methods to reuse the contents of cultural heritage institutions in innovative and creative ways. Jupyter Notebooks have become a powerful tool to foster use of these collections by digital humanities researchers. Based on previous approaches for quality assessment, which have been adapted for cultural heritage collections, this paper proposes a methodology for assessing the quality of projects based on Jupyter Notebooks published by relevant GLAM institutions. A list of projects based on Jupyter Notebooks using cultural heritage data has been evaluated. Common features and best practices have been identified. A detailed analysis, that can be useful for organizations interested in creating their own Jupyter Notebooks projects, has been provided. Open issues requiring further work and additional avenues for exploration are outlined.

Stakeholders of the NFDI consortium Text+, of the German national node of DARIAH, of the SSH Open Cluster and of related EOSC projects are presenting benefits and outcomes of these structures and their linkages for the actual research data management and for the researchers. How are research data repositories connected and researchers guided to all the various service offers? With an example about the tool registry in the SSH Open Marketplace reused by Text+ and connected to EOSC, we illustrate the overall picture of these infrastructures and their impact in practice.

Data may vary from policy and framework documents to survey and interview transcripts. The methodology adopts a stakeholder-centric approach that is capable of capturing dimensions which will play a key part in understanding and supporting the progress of OA book policy and practice. The data collection process is guided by the goal of fulfilling these key dimensions by addressing issues in all ERAs countries, by collecting complex data that will cover all PESTLE factors, by considering all actors involved in OA book publishing at various stages of the research lifecycle. If absorbed appropriately, it can also prove beneficial in overcoming the various environmental, geographical, mobility and other barriers in the future, making DH more resilient, inclusive and diverse. This is why the main objective of the proposed workshop is to develop a better understanding of the dynamics on the Digital Humanities work floor when researchers, teachers and/or professionals with different areas of competence engage in remote collaboration to solve humanities research questions, and to explore how education and training of humanities scholars, cultural heritage professionals and technical experts can help making remote collaboration across disciplines more efficient and effective, more creative and innovative, and more inclusive and rewarding for all participants. To this end, we invite submissions reporting on all aspects and stages of engaging in remote collaborative research and teaching in DH, including the obstacles encountered and solutions found. We are also welcoming position papers on the role of research infrastructures to better facilitate remote collaboration in DH.

We present a way to fully reproducible research using a Docker-based approach: We exemplarily implemented it for a network-analytic study on a corpus of about 3,000 theater plays derived from the DraCor project. We demonstrate that the use of highly portable, self-contained digital artifacts (Docker images) containing runnable research environments not only allow for a full reproduction of the study, but also offer ways to implement different scenarios of repeating research (e.g. same code, different data).

Funded by the European Union. Views and opinions expressed are however those of the author(s) only and do not necessarily reflect those of the European Union or the Agency.
