Professionally edited open access online encyclopaedias enable a systemic and reliable orientation within the ever-increasing amount of data and information on the Internet. Providing access to scientifically verified information, they represent an important part of the research and didactic infrastructure. This paper demonstrates the activities of Croatia’s Miroslav Krleža Institute of Lexicography aimed at exploring the new encyclopaedic concept in the digital age. The Institute’s digital transformation is shown, which involves the digitisation and online publishing of archival editions, publishing of the permanently updated online general encyclopaedia, and the transformation of specialised encyclopedias to the encyclopaedic portals. Encyclopaedic portals could represent a new concept of encyclopaedias in the digital realm by serving as platforms for data networking and sharing, a sort of ‘junction points’ that connect diverse digital content on a specific topic. Institute’s publicly available repository of encyclopaedic knowledge enables the linking to the digital data and collections of other research and cultural institutions; therefore the collaborative projects aimed at reinforcing digital research and cultural infrastructure will be described. Thanks to the properties of the digital media and increasing connectivity, a closer collaboration Towards a New Concept of Open Access Online Encyclopaedia : A Case Study from... between professionally edited online encyclopaedias across Europe (and beyond) is enabled. This paper elaborates a range of initiatives seeking to build connections across individual European and North American national encyclopaedias, focusing on the role that Croatian encyclopaedistics plays in this endeavour.

International audience; The aim of the talk is to present the methodology used to reorganise the PACTOLS thesaurus of Frantiq, launched within the framework of the MASA consortium. PACTOLS is a multilingual and open repository about archaeology from Prehistory to the present and for Classics. It is organized into six micro-thesaurus at the root of its name (Peuples, Anthroponymes,Chronologie, Toponymes, Oeuvres, Lieux, Sujets). The goal is to turn it into a tool interoperable with information systems beyond its original documentary purpose, and usable by archaeologists as a repository for managing scientific data. During the talk, we will describe the choice of tools, the organisation of work within the steering group and the collaborations with specialists for the upgrading and development of the vocabulary while showing the strengths and limitations of some experiments. Above allit will show how the introduction of the conceptual categories of the BackBone Thesaurus of DARIAH, modelled on the CIDOC-CRM ontology, through a progressive deconstruction/reconstruction process, eventually had an impact on all micro thesauri and questioned the organisation of knowledge so far proposed.

International audience; Navigating through the rich and dynamically evolving (Wouters et al., 2013) Digital Humanities (henceforth DH) landscape can be a time-consuming task and difficult to integrate into researchers' everyday routines. Yet primary goals of the DH paradigm such as 1. broadening and deepening the adoption of digital methods amongst humanities scholars and 2. facilitating the culture of reuse of already existing resources requires sufficient tools that make DH resources, methods and best practices visible, easily discoverable and freely accessible for researchers in all levels of expertise. The OpenMethods metablog aims to fulfil this need and provides a platform to bring together all formats of Open Access publications in different languages about methods in DH to spread the knowledge and raise peer recognition for them.

This report provides information about activities and progress towards establishing DARIAH membership in six countries: the Czech Republic, Finland, Israel, Spain, Switzerland, and the UK, which took place between July and December 2019. Previous activities were described in detail in the D3.2 - Regularly Monitor Country-Specific Progress in Enabling New DARIAH Membership. During the project lifetime, the Czech Republic joined DARIAH ERIC; in other countries, collaboration with DARIAH has been greatly strengthened and significant progress regarding DARIAH membership has been achieved. The report also outlines the next steps in the accession processes, building on the results of the DESIR project.

International audience; Le web sémantique et l'ouverture des données (publications, archives, référentiels) dans les sciences humaines et sociales (SHS) ont permis la création outils de recherche nouveaux permettant à la fois de créer des portails documentaires (autour de moteurs de recherche sémantiques) et des applications pouvant être embarquées dans des sites web. ISIDORE, l'accès unifié aux données, publications et informations des SHS entre dans cette catégorie. Lancé en 2010 par le CNRS et actuellement développé par Huma-Num, ISIDORE propose, outre un moteur de recherche sur le web, une collection d'applications permettant de l'utiliser de façon « embarqué » pour des usages aux plus près des besoins des enseignants-chercheurs et des étudiants.

This document describes mechanisms where interoperability ofdata is ensured with the use of standards. The standards wecovered are both domain related, the archival standards in XMLformats such as EAD, EAC-CPF and EAG, and transversalstandards, whose use is recommended in the context of any digitalproject, in particular the ISO standards for the representation oflanguage, script and countries.Interoperability of archival descriptions expressed in EAD is madepossible with the specification of a specific EAD profile for EHRI.This profile is built and maintained using the TEI-ODD framework,which is explained of the first section of the report.Interoperability and reusability of EHRI resources is also ensuredwith the design of more consistent URLs, composed withstandardised methods and using ISO reference codes. This designhas to be seen as a first step through a persistent identifier system.The work initiated in WP11 and presented in this document will becontinued, enhanced and developed by other EHRI work packages,WP7 Virtual Access to EHRI Virtual Observatory, WP10 ResourceIdentification and Integration Workflows and WP13 Research DataInfrastructures for Holocaust Material.

The DESIR project sets out to strengthen the sustainability of DARIAH and firmly establish it as a long-term leader and partner within arts and humanities communities. The project was designed to address six core infrastructural sustainability dimensions and one of these was dedicated to training and education, which is also one of the four pillars identified in the DARIAH Strategic Plan 2019-2026. In the framework of Work Package 7: Teaching, DESIR organised dedicated workshops in the six DARIAH accession countries (Czech Republic, Finland, Israel, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom) to introduce them to the DARIAH infrastructure and related services, and to develop methodological research skills. The topic of each workshop was decided by accession countries representatives according to the training needs of the national communities of researchers in the (Digital) Humanities. Training topics varied greatly: on the one hand, some workshops had the objective to introduce participants to specific methodological research skills; on the other hand, a different approach was used, and some events focused on the infrastructural role of training and education. In 2008, a pilot project initiated by TGE Adonis, a large research infrastructure, brought together designers of data repositories, archivists and system engineers to set up collaborative oral/linguistic resource centres in France. This paper discusses challenging issues addressed by this team when implementing an Open Archival Information System (OAIS) bundled with an institutional archive. After the completion of the pilot project, the Speech & Language Data Repository (SLDR) underwent development for the systematic management of access rights in compliance with the French Heritage code. Its framework claims to be applicable to other systems worldwide, which would facilitate interoperability between protected repositories equipped with transfer of authentication techniques (Single Sign-On).
