Given the dynamic rate of change in the OA books business models landscape, the OPERAS Open Access Business Models Special Interest Group launched a survey in 2021 to 1) improve our understanding of the scholarly publishing landscape and of the challenges that publishers face in the context of publishing OA monographs; and 2) to identify main trends (including opportunities and challenges) and the knowledge of collaborative funding and infrastructure models in OA publishing in Social Science and the Humanities. This white paper updates and expands an earlier version published in 2021, which presented the preliminary analysis of the findings. Despite a small sample of presses meaning that no strong trends ought to be discussed, several insights were drawn and should be considered important directions for the future. Key findings in the report have been grouped into three main areas: collaboration, funding, and support. The report found that, although not opposed to the idea, a majority of presses do not engage in collaboration, specifically collaborative models for shared infrastructure, mainly due to the lack of knowledge and information, or perceived lack of need. This indicates that, for OA books, we are still at the early stage of the adoption curve for collaborative shared infrastructure. In terms of funding, most publishers perceive themselves to be somewhat sustainable. For institutional publishers, parent organisations are crucial as providers of financial or non-monetary support of OA. In addition, most publishers stress the need to have more resources and rely on more than one funding source, including grants and subsidies. The report found that awareness-raising and targeted support and training could be used to engage the presses but further incentivisation may be required to encourage publishers to collaborate more widely. We believe that the insights from this white paper may be interesting to a number of projects, such as DIAMAS, OPERAS-PLUS, and Palomera and have presented areas for further research and more specific actionable points for these projects.

This presentation follows a workshop session that was held at the beginning of the DARIAH Annual Event 2023 in Budapest, HU. An informational booklet, designed by Tom Gheldof, details each of the DH Masters which we were able to investigate. It helped nourish our discussions during the workshop and thus is included as well. Postgraduate education in Digital Humanities (DH) has often led to careers for students in either the research or cultural heritage sector. Traditionally, the relationship between industry and Cultural Heritage institutions has typically been conceived as a collaboration to leverage funding mechanisms and develop projects to pursue a common interest, such as a technical innovation, or a knowledge sharing endeavour. The skills acquired within Digital Humanities (DH) taught postgraduate degrees are interdisciplinary and therefore transferable by their very nature, something that has been recognised among larger multinational companies. Indeed, a strong humanities education and familiarity with our methods can be an asset for business. Best practices for data stewardship and data management are similar whether one focuses on cultural heritage data, or business data, even if there are particularities. Yet among small and medium enterprises (SMEs) the proposition of employing a graduate from a field that is still in its relative infancy compared with more traditional disciplines can be seen as a risk. It therefore becomes necessary to identify the gaps, and indeed niches that rest between the current provision of training among DH scholars at a postgraduate (Masters) level, and the needs of the companies and future employers of DH graduates. Indeed, greater collaboration and fluidity between the cultural heritage and academic sphere, and that of business, via the DH alumni, can lead to greater outcomes for both, as these students can bring the best practices of both sectors in their future careers, thereby enriching both sectors and establishing interpersonal links (and the collaboration that grows from these links) via their networks. In light of this, it becomes necessary to foster internships that encourage and nurture experimental data spaces between cultural heritage, industry and academia. This paper will therefore share the conversation around the relationship between taught postgraduate DH programmes and industry by presenting the outcomes of a joint working-group workshop to be held on the periphery of the DARIAH Annual Event 2023. Furthermore, it will also include the results of preparatory surveys and interviews with directors and coordinators of various DH postgraduate programmes across Europe, specifically identifying the challenges and professional issues experienced by both DH Masters directors, and their alumni. This paper addresses the following key objectives: Identify the professional challenges and (new) employment opportunities of DH postgraduate taught programmes and their alumni at the European scale. Identify the benefits such a collaboration and exchange between the two sectors can bring. Identify opportunities and good practices of internships with industry and cultural heritage institutions, and their associated challenges. Strengthen the networking opportunities between master degrees, in such a way that expertise can be mapped at a pan-Infrastructural level to share and exchange trainers and trainees in the frame of Erasmus mobilities or Erasmus Mundus programmes. Our presentation will give visibility to these outputs, as a first step in a long-term effort to improve collaboration between industry, cultural heritage institutions and academia (specifically taught postgraduate DH degrees) in the frame of research infrastructures.

Metadata is key to framing the context of the research data and can sometimes be part of the research data itself. The Metadata Standards Catalog (MSC), maintained by the RDA Metadata Standards Catalog Working Group, hosts more than one hundred descriptions of metadata standards, along with tools, mappings, and organisations that aim to help researchers choose the most suitable metadata standard to describe research data belonging to projects, repositories and catalogues. In the context of the Cultural Heritage domain, we examined the consistency and evaluated the MSC subject domains with a view to enriching the Catalog with the metadata standards widely used by the Cultural Heritage research community. In addition, we investigated whether the MSC could play a role in guiding researchers to include relevant citation information in their project metadata, disciplinary metadata and dataset metadata, thereby fostering cross-disciplinary information integration while proving, at the same time, how citation can act as a FAIR-enabling factor. Part of A FAIR-enabling citation model for Cultural Heritage Objects project activities. This project has received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 101017536 and is supported by the EOSC Future (https://eoscfuture.eu/) through the RDA (https://www.rd-alliance.org/) Open Call mechanism (https://eoscfuture-grants.eu/provider/research-data-alliance), based on evaluations of external, independent experts.

The Gdańsk Tech Library has implemented a "Data Practices in an interdisciplinary perspective" project. The project results from an open call for interdisciplinary research adoption grants funded by the EOSC Future using the RDA Open Call mechanism. This project aims to create an overview and thematic analysis of open data curation and sharing within selected scientific discipline. The poster is based on a semi-structured interview with a researcher from the Gdańsk University of Technology to develop a case study for natural language processing. Collected data was analysed and documented graphically to illustrate the most critical procedures and requirements for data management for the particular discipline. The poster aims to describe the opportunities for data sharing, workflow practices in data management, implementation of metadata standards, and the social aspect of sharing data, such as researchers' attitudes and discipline-specific traditions. In addition, the poster includes a model example of a dataset for the natural language processing discipline deposited in the university data repository (MOST WIEDZY Open Research Data Catalogue).

Science and research have always benefited from exchange and openness – both within their own discipline and community and beyond. This principle is the basis of the Association for Research Infrastructures in the Humanities and Cultural Studies (Verein Geistes- und kulturwissenschaftliche Forschungsinfrastrukturen e.V., GKFI) which is presented on this poster.

The Social Sciences and Humanities Open Marketplace (SSH Open Marketplace) - marketplace.sshopencloud.eu - is a discovery portal which pools and contextualises resources for Social Sciences and Humanities research communities: tools, services, training materials, datasets, publications and workflows. The SSH Open Marketplace showcases solutions and research practices for every step of the research data life cycle. In doing so, it facilitates discoverability and findability of research services and products that are essential to enable sharing and re-use of workflows and methodologies. The SSH Open Marketplace might be regarded as an innovative service. It is, of course, a directory in a classic way, indexing information and allowing researchers to navigate their way to new tools and methods. But it is something new, as well: through the creation and marking of relations between indexed items in a semantically much more meaningful way than the limited textual relatedness of keyword or category classes, it creates contextualization which increases the serendipity in the search of resources. This poster, created by the SSH Open Marketplace Editorial Board members provides an overview of what the service is, what is indexes, how it is managed and how it can be used.

In this paper, we present a new dataset and benchmark tailored to the task of semantic similarity in song lyrics. Our dataset, originally consisting of 2775 pairs of Spanish songs, was annotated in a collective annotation experiment by 63 native annotators. After collecting and refining the data to ensure a high degree of consensus and data integrity, we obtained 676 high-quality annotated pairs that were used to evaluate the performance of various state-of-the-art monolingual and multilingual language models. Consequently, we established baseline results that we hope will be useful to the community in all future academic and industrial applications conducted in this context. This research has been carried out in the framework of the Grant LyrAIcs Grant agreement ID: 964009 funded by ERC-POCLS, and in the framework of the Grant CLS INFRA reference 101004984 funded by H2020-INFRAIA-2020-1. It has also received funding from the project ISL: Intelligent Systems for Learning (GID2016-39) in the call PID 22/23, and from FAIRTRANSNLP-DIAGNOSIS: Measuring and quantifying bias and fairness in NLP systems, grant PID2021-124361OB-C32, funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 and by ERDF, EU A way of making Europe.

OPERAS Innovation Lab provides targeted guidance for scholars seeking to disseminate their outputs in an innovative way. This poster presents three case studies of workflows for innovative scholarly communication: 1) toolkit/anthology; 2) interdisciplinary online journal; 3) software services. The workflows will serve as blueprints for SSH scholars.
