The European Holocaust Research Infrastructure (EHRI) portal website aims to aggregate digitally available archival descriptions concerning the Holocaust. This portal is actually a meta-catalogue, or an information aggregator, whose biggest goal is to have up-to-date information by means of building sustainable data pipelines between EHRI and its content providers. Just like in similar archival information aggregators (e.g. Archives Portal Europe or Monasterium), the XML-based metadata standard Encoded Archival Description (EAD) plays a key role. The article presents how EADs are imported into the portal, mainly thanks to the Open Archive Initiative protocols.

Quantitative Text Analysis for Literary History - Report on a DARIAH-DE Expert Workshop

The workshop on Quantitative Text Analysis for Literary History was the first in a series of DARIAH-DE expert workshops and took place from November 22 to 23 at the University of Würzburg, Germany. It was organized by Fotis Jannidis and Christof Schöch of the Department for Literary Computing, University of Würzburg, and brought together experts in the computational analysis of collections of literary texts from France, Germany, Poland and the US. This report first briefly provides some context on the DARIAH expert workshops and introduces the specific goals of the workshop reported on here. Then, it summarizes the major issues raised by the participants in their initial statements and debated in the ensuing discussions. Finally, it describes the key results from the workshop, which include advances in the areas of data, tools and methods for quantitative text analysis.

CLARIAH-DE combines services and offerings of CLARIN-D and DARIAH-DE. This includes various search applications which are made directly available to researchers. These search applications are presented in this working paper based on their main characteristics and compared with a focus on possible harmonizations. Opportunities and risks of different forms of technical integration are highlighted. Identified challenges can be explained in particular considering the background of different organizational and technical frameworks as well as highly specific and discipline-dependent requirements. The integration work that has already been carried out and the experiences gained with regard to future work and possible integration of further applications are also discussed. The experiences made in CLARIAH-DE can especially be of interest for other projects in the field of digital research infrastructures. Funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. The workshop on Quantitative Text Analysis for Literary History was the first in a series of DARIAH-DE expert workshops and took place from November 22 to 23 at the University of Würzburg, Germany. It was organized by Fotis Jannidis and Christof Schöch of the Department for Literary Computing, University of Würzburg, and brought together experts in the computational analysis of collections of literary texts from France, Germany, Poland and the US. This report first briefly provides some context on the DARIAH expert workshops and introduces the specific goals of the workshop reported on here. Then, it summarizes the major issues raised by the participants in their initial statements and debated in the ensuing discussions. Finally, it describes the key results from the workshop, which include advances in the areas of data, tools and methods for quantitative text analysis.

CLARIAH-DE combines services and offerings of CLARIN-D and DARIAH-DE. This includes various search applications which are made directly available to researchers. These search applications are presented in this working paper based on their main characteristics and compared with a focus on possible harmonizations. Opportunities and risks of different forms of technical integration are highlighted. Identified challenges can be explained in particular considering the background of different organizational and technical frameworks as well as highly specific and discipline-dependent requirements. The integration work that has already been carried out and the experiences gained with regard to future work and possible integration of further applications are also discussed. The experiences made in CLARIAH-DE can especially be of interest for other projects in the field of digital research infrastructures. Funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
