The mentioned concepts deal with smart interactive objects which provide a set of services, but they look into the problem from various perspectives. We especially look into middleware design decisions for reactive/proactive adaptations. Following a systematic literature review (SLR) in the selection procedure, we selected 62 papers among 4,274 candidate studies. To this end, we applied the classification and extraction framework to select and analyze the most influential domain-related information. In addition to the academic database, we took advantage of the use-cases provided by our industrial partners within the CPS4EU 2 project. This document clarifies the primary studies' selection process. The analysis of the studies, discussion, and solution proposals will be presented separately in a journal article.

The recent food crises revealed that the dependency to imported food is more determinant for structural vulnerability than the weight of agriculture in the economy. We suggest a new structural vulnerability indicator by substituting into the well-known EVI the share of agriculture in GDP by a proxy of imported food dependency. For robustness considerations, this new indicator is obtained from an endogenous weighting system. Our simulations point out that taking into account food dependency strengthens dramatically the exposure of small island economies to structural vulnerability.

The Food Security VRE features have been implemented by iteration. Three phases of evaluation have been performed in order to assess the VRE at different stages of its development and then being able to take into account the users feedbacks for adding improvements. This also allowed to better engage the community users. The first evaluation consisted in testing each available feature independently while in the two later evaluations full research workflows could be demonstrated and it was possible to organize hands-on workshops where users could follow a real user scenario and get a better view of a VRE potential. To cope with the differences in the evaluation approach between the different research communities (agro-climatic modelling, food safety and food security community), an additional evaluation was developed and performed in harmonized validation format. Analysing the evaluation feedback, we can conclude that for the Food Security community, the AGINFRA+ project enabled to introduce virtual research environments to scientists who were generally unaware of the possibilities of virtual research. We were able to demonstrate the general concept of a VRE, and how VREs can support collaborative teams in plant science research. In addition, we demonstrated how a VRE and its components can be used to discover and access data and develop scientific workflows. We observe that community members state that VREs can be a useful tool for open science, and we see an interest to use such environments for research. Many seem to recognize that virtual research environments offer unique opportunities to share heterogeneous data and analysis workflows and thus make them more easily reusable, responding to the demand for collaboration in different fields with heterogeneous data needed to address major interdisciplinary challenges in agri-food and environment.

We study the responses to climate shocks using a nonlinear multivariate model to assess differential effects across ENSO climate regimes. We find that commodity inflation is reactive to El Niño and La Niña events, but that this sensitivity can occur either in the short-or long-term depending on the commodity under investigation. For commodities in agriculture, we uncover an asymmetric influence of El Niño and La Niña shocks. More central banks are questioning whether climate change is part of their mission to stabilize prices. Our results indicate the existence of a direct link between weather anomalies and commodity inflation, one that should be integrated into the central banks' inflation targeting framework.

In such context, satellite image time series have been use to study land used and land cover information. However, optical time series, like Sentinel-2 or Landsat ones, are provided with a irregular time sampling for different spatial location, and images contain clouds and shadows.Thus specific pre-processing techniques are required to properly classify such data. The proposed approach in the paper is able to deal with irregular temporal sampling and missing data directly in the classification process. It is based on Gaussian Process and allows to perform jointly the classification of the pixel labels as well as the reconstruction of the pixel time series. Its complexity scales linearly with the number of pixels, it is amenable in a large scale scenario. Experimental classification and reconstruction show that the method does not compete yet with state of the art classifier but allows for a robust reconstruction and does not need any temporal preprocessing

So the preservation of the spatial resolution of the panchromatic image and the spectral resolution of the multipsectral image are of key importance for the pansharpening problem. To cope with it, we propose a new method based on multi-discriminator in a Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) framework. Two discriminators are considered. The first one is optimized to preserve textures of images by taking as input the luminance and the near infrared band of images, and the second one preserves the color by comparing the chroma components Cb and Cr. Thus, this method allows to train two discrimi-nators, each one with a different and complementary task. Moreover, to enhance these aspects, the proposed method based on multi-discriminator, and called MDSSC-GAN SAM, considers a spatial and a spectral constraints in the loss function of the generator. We show on numerous examples the advantages of this new method.

Location: Europe. Time period: 1901-2014. Taxa: Silver fir (Abies alba Mill.) and sessile oak (Quercus petraea (Matt.) Liebl.). Methods: We estimated the variation of individual tree height as a function of long-term and short-term climates to tease apart local adaptation, plasticity and their interaction, using mixed-effect models calibrated with National Forest Inventory data (in-situ models). To validate our approach, we tested the ability of in-situ models to predict independently tree height observations in common gardens where local adaptation to climate of populations and their plasticity can be measured and separated. In-situ model predictions of tree height variation among provenances (populations of different geographical origin) and among planting sites were compared to observations in common gardens and to predictions from a similar model calibrated using common garden data (ex-situ model). Results: In Q. petraea, we found high correlations between in-situ and ex-situ model predictions of provenance and plasticity effects and their interaction on tree height (r > 0.80). We showed that the in-situ models significantly predicted tree height variation among provenances and sites for Abies alba and Quercus petraea. Spatial predictions of phenotypic plasticity across species distribution ranges indicate decreasing tree height in populations of warmer climates in response to recent anthropogenic climate warming. Main conclusions: Our modelling approach using National Forest Inventory observations provides a new perspective for understanding patterns of intraspecific trait variation across species ranges. Its application is particularly interesting for species for which common garden experiments do not exist or do not cover the entire climatic range of the species. I measure drought in a Differencesin-Differences (DID) framework, as an alternative to the standard approaches decomposing the effects from climate and yearly weather deviations on agricultural productivity and those using the growing degree days and harmful degree days. In the short-term and mediumterm, rural households adapt to the drought of 2010 by increasing the total area planted in crops and livestock, (increasing also the total gross agricultural productivity in value terms) and by working more on the farm. The droughts also increased the use of external sources of water in the farm and made rural households postpone non-housing investments in the farm. I find heterogeneous effects according to the long run mean of temperature in the municipality. Higher temperature affects positively gross agricultural productivity in low-temperature municipalities but negatively high-temperature municipalities. Cereals and coffee seem to benefit from higher temperatures, while vegetables and fruits are more affected.

However, COVID-19 pandemic has recently pushed several microbusinesses (MBs) to hurriedly initiate digital transformation (DT) efforts and keep their businesses afloat (Mandviwalla & Flanagan, 2021). MBs comprise a class of small and medium enterprise category (SMEs) that typically have fewer than 10 employees and lesser resources (OECD, 2021). They represent about 93 percent of all businesses in the Europe (European Commission, 2019). Their economic significance is also shown through ha survey which predicted that by 2024 small businesses through their DT efforts have the potential to add over 2.3 trillion USD to the global GDP, which would be key for the post pandemic economic recovery (CISCO, 2020). Prior research has shown that DT effectiveness varies significantly with firm size (Mandviwalla & Flanagan, 2021). Following these, the aim of our study is to examine to identify the enablers and inhibitors of digital transformation within the MB sector in Ireland.

Resource mappings describe the execution of a program by assigning instructions in the program to abstract resources. They can be used to predict the throughput of basic blocks or as a machine model for the backend of an optimizing compiler. Palmed does not require hardware performance counters, and relies solely on runtime measurements to construct resource mappings. This allows it to model not only execution port usage, but also other limiting resources, such as the frontend or the reorder buffer. Also, thanks to a dual representation of resource mappings, our algorithm for constructing mappings scales to large instruction sets, like that of x86. We evaluate the algorithmic contribution of the paper in two ways. First by showing that our approach can reverse engineering an accurate resource mapping from an idealistic performance model produced by an existing port-mapping. We also evaluate the pertinence of our dual representation, as opposed to the standard port-mapping, for throughput modeling by extracting a representative set of basic-blocks from the compiled binaries of the Spec CPU 2017 benchmarks and comparing the throughput predicted by existing machine models to that produced by Palmed.

The recent food crises revealed that the dependency to imported food is more determinant for structural vulnerability than the weight of agriculture in the economy. We suggest a new structural vulnerability indicator by substituting into the well-known EVI the share of agriculture in GDP by a proxy of imported food dependency. For robustness considerations, this new indicator is obtained from an endogenous weighting system. Our simulations point out that taking into account food dependency strengthens dramatically the exposure of small island economies to structural vulnerability.

The Food Security VRE features have been implemented by iteration. Three phases of evaluation have been performed in order to assess the VRE at different stages of its development and then being able to take into account the users feedbacks for adding improvements. This also allowed to better engage the community users. The first evaluation consisted in testing each available feature independently while in the two later evaluations full research workflows could be demonstrated and it was possible to organize hands-on workshops where users could follow a real user scenario and get a better view of a VRE potential. To cope with the differences in the evaluation approach between the different research communities (agro-climatic modelling, food safety and food security community), an additional evaluation was developed and performed in harmonized validation format. Analysing the evaluation feedback, we can conclude that for the Food Security community, the AGINFRA+ project enabled to introduce virtual research environments to scientists who were generally unaware of the possibilities of virtual research. We were able to demonstrate the general concept of a VRE, and how VREs can support collaborative teams in plant science research. In addition, we demonstrated how a VRE and its components can be used to discover and access data and develop scientific workflows. We observe that community members state that VREs can be a useful tool for open science, and we see an interest to use such environments for research. Many seem to recognize that virtual research environments offer unique opportunities to share heterogeneous data and analysis workflows and thus make them more easily reusable, responding to the demand for collaboration in different fields with heterogeneous data needed to address major interdisciplinary challenges in agri-food and environment.

We study the responses to climate shocks using a nonlinear multivariate model to assess differential effects across ENSO climate regimes. We find that commodity inflation is reactive to El Niño and La Niña events, but that this sensitivity can occur either in the short-or long-term depending on the commodity under investigation. For commodities in agriculture, we uncover an asymmetric influence of El Niño and La Niña shocks. More central banks are questioning whether climate change is part of their mission to stabilize prices. Our results indicate the existence of a direct link between weather anomalies and commodity inflation, one that should be integrated into the central banks' inflation targeting framework.

In such context, satellite image time series have been use to study land used and land cover information. However, optical time series, like Sentinel-2 or Landsat ones, are provided with a irregular time sampling for different spatial location, and images contain clouds and shadows.Thus specific pre-processing techniques are required to properly classify such data. The proposed approach in the paper is able to deal with irregular temporal sampling and missing data directly in the classification process. It is based on Gaussian Process and allows to perform jointly the classification of the pixel labels as well as the reconstruction of the pixel time series. Its complexity scales linearly with the number of pixels, it is amenable in a large scale scenario. Experimental classification and reconstruction show that the method does not compete yet with state of the art classifier but allows for a robust reconstruction and does not need any temporal preprocessing

So the preservation of the spatial resolution of the panchromatic image and the spectral resolution of the multipsectral image are of key importance for the pansharpening problem. To cope with it, we propose a new method based on multi-discriminator in a Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) framework. Two discriminators are considered. The first one is optimized to preserve textures of images by taking as input the luminance and the near infrared band of images, and the second one preserves the color by comparing the chroma components Cb and Cr. Thus, this method allows to train two discrimi-nators, each one with a different and complementary task. Moreover, to enhance these aspects, the proposed method based on multi-discriminator, and called MDSSC-GAN SAM, considers a spatial and a spectral constraints in the loss function of the generator. We show on numerous examples the advantages of this new method.

Location: Europe. Time period: 1901-2014. Taxa: Silver fir (Abies alba Mill.) and sessile oak (Quercus petraea (Matt.) Liebl.). Methods: We estimated the variation of individual tree height as a function of long-term and short-term climates to tease apart local adaptation, plasticity and their interaction, using mixed-effect models calibrated with National Forest Inventory data (in-situ models). To validate our approach, we tested the ability of in-situ models to predict independently tree height observations in common gardens where local adaptation to climate of populations and their plasticity can be measured and separated. In-situ model predictions of tree height variation among provenances (populations of different geographical origin) and among planting sites were compared to observations in common gardens and to predictions from a similar model calibrated using common garden data (ex-situ model). Results: In Q. petraea, we found high correlations between in-situ and ex-situ model predictions of provenance and plasticity effects and their interaction on tree height (r > 0.80). We showed that the in-situ models significantly predicted tree height variation among provenances and sites for Abies alba and Quercus petraea. Spatial predictions of phenotypic plasticity across species distribution ranges indicate decreasing tree height in populations of warmer climates in response to recent anthropogenic climate warming. Main conclusions: Our modelling approach using National Forest Inventory observations provides a new perspective for understanding patterns of intraspecific trait variation across species ranges. Its application is particularly interesting for species for which common garden experiments do not exist or do not cover the entire climatic range of the species. I measure drought in a Differencesin-Differences (DID) framework, as an alternative to the standard approaches decomposing the effects from climate and yearly weather deviations on agricultural productivity and those using the growing degree days and harmful degree days. In the short-term and mediumterm, rural households adapt to the drought of 2010 by increasing the total area planted in crops and livestock, (increasing also the total gross agricultural productivity in value terms) and by working more on the farm. The droughts also increased the use of external sources of water in the farm and made rural households postpone non-housing investments in the farm. I find heterogeneous effects according to the long run mean of temperature in the municipality. Higher temperature affects positively gross agricultural productivity in low-temperature municipalities but negatively high-temperature municipalities. Cereals and coffee seem to benefit from higher temperatures, while vegetables and fruits are more affected.

However, COVID-19 pandemic has recently pushed several microbusinesses (MBs) to hurriedly initiate digital transformation (DT) efforts and keep their businesses afloat (Mandviwalla & Flanagan, 2021). MBs comprise a class of small and medium enterprise category (SMEs) that typically have fewer than 10 employees and lesser resources (OECD, 2021). They represent about 93 percent of all businesses in the Europe (European Commission, 2019). Their economic significance is also shown through ha survey which predicted that by 2024 small businesses through their DT efforts have the potential to add over 2.3 trillion USD to the global GDP, which would be key for the post pandemic economic recovery (CISCO, 2020). Prior research has shown that DT effectiveness varies significantly with firm size (Mandviwalla & Flanagan, 2021). Following these, the aim of our study is to examine to identify the enablers and inhibitors of digital transformation within the MB sector in Ireland.

Resource mappings describe the execution of a program by assigning instructions in the program to abstract resources. They can be used to predict the throughput of basic blocks or as a machine model for the backend of an optimizing compiler. Palmed does not require hardware performance counters, and relies solely on runtime measurements to construct resource mappings. This allows it to model not only execution port usage, but also other limiting resources, such as the frontend or the reorder buffer. Also, thanks to a dual representation of resource mappings, our algorithm for constructing mappings scales to large instruction sets, like that of x86. We evaluate the algorithmic contribution of the paper in two ways. First by showing that our approach can reverse engineering an accurate resource mapping from an idealistic performance model produced by an existing port-mapping. We also evaluate the pertinence of our dual representation, as opposed to the standard port-mapping, for throughput modeling by extracting a representative set of basic-blocks from the compiled binaries of the Spec CPU 2017 benchmarks and comparing the throughput predicted by existing machine models to that produced by Palmed.
