A case study of DARIAH-DE and MWW MWW stands for three institutions, united by more than 500 years of German and European ideas, literature and culture – and since 2013 by a research association.1 The German Literature Archive Marbach, the Klassik Stiftung Weimar and the Herzog August Library Wolfenbüttel collect, preserve and provide access to sources that are crucial to the study of German literary and intellectual tradition. Thereby they have devoted themselves to the long-term transformation of cultural heritage in Germany. In all three institutions, digitization of their collections has been an important task to build digital collections and provide worldwide access to this cultural heritage. Furthermore, new approaches in the field of digital humanities have been adopted to strengthen the connection of digital collections with the humanities and cultural studies (Schreibmann et al. 2004). All of these goals can be reached easier by cooperation and the use of established tools and infrastructure, which will be demonstrated, based on the example of the implementation of a generic search over collections of all three institutions. For the implementation of the generic search the Data Federation Architecture (DFA) from DARIAH-DE is used.

International audience; In this paper we describe the development and evaluation of a visual analytics tool to support historical research. Historians continuously gather data related to their scholarly research from archival visits and background search. Organising and making sense of all this data can be challenging as many historians continue to rely on analog or basic digital tools. We built an integrated note-taking environment for historians which unifies a set of func-tionalities we identified as important for historical research including editing, tagging, searching, sharing and visualization. Our approach was to involve users from the initial stage of brainstorming and requirement analysis through to design, implementation and evaluation. We report on the process and results of our work, and conclude by reflecting on our own experience in conducting user-centered visual analytics design for digital humanities.

International audience; DARIAH, the Digital Research Infrastructure for the Arts and Humanities, aims to enhance and support digitally-enabled research and teaching across the humanities and arts. By bringing together national activities from Member countries, DARIAH is able to offer a portfolio of services and activities centred around research communities. DARIAH was established as a European legal entity in August 2014 with 15 countries - Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, The Netherlands, Slovenia and Serbia – as Founding Members. This was an important step towards developing a research infrastructure for sharing and sustaining digital arts and humanities knowledge across Europe and beyond. Using the opportunity to present a poster at DH Benelux 2015 as a starting point, the authors would like to explore how DARIAH-BE, DARIAH-LU and DARIAH-NL could collaborate to both strengthen their participation in DARIAH within their individual countries and together as the Benelux region. Initial ideas include: a) increasing collaboration between researchers and infrastructure providers: taking advantage of the geographical proximity and language synergies to participate in shared activities e.g. joint research projects and training events, b) increasing funding opportunities: exploring regional possibilities for funding and establishing partnerships for European funding proposals and c) sharing DARIAH knowledge and experience: increasing understanding and identifying synergies between the DARIAH activities in each country. Through strengthening the collaboration between DARIAH activities in Belgium, Luxembourg and The Netherlands, we would like to facilitate maximum participation of digital humanities researchers in the Benelux region in DARIAH in order to take full advantage of the benefits of being part of the European DARIAH community.

This poster summarizes the results of the CLARIAH-DE Work Package 6: Organisational Infrastructure / Administrative Office. Work package (WP) 6 is tasked with the organisational development of CLARIAH-DE. The implementation of the rules of procedure and the project coordination is ensured by the CLARIAH-DE Office at the Göttingen State and University Library and the University of Tübingen. This paper aims at showing how integrating the Archive of the Italian Latinity of the Middle Ages (ALIM) into the ILC4CLARIN repository can provide mutual benefits. Making ALIM available to a large community of scholars and researchers, on the one side, represents the first step to reduce the lack of resources for Medieval Latin in CLARIN and, on the other side, constitutes an unprecedented contribution to not only linguistic investigations, but also to the studies of the culture and science at the basis of the Western European society. The paper describes the adopted approach aiming to keep intact the structure of the archive and its metadata, which are both accurately mirrored into the ILC4CLARIN repository in order to maintain existing access practices of the users. This structure can be found in exactly the same state within the CLARIN VLO. Finally, the paper illustrates the advantages of experimenting with some ALIM data, once introduced within the CLARIN Language Resource Switchboard service: first results are shown from the analysis of some texts with the UDPipe tool suite and the distant reading tool Voyant.

This paper discusses the rationale behind the development of a research environment –the Media Suite– in a sustainable, dynamic, multi-institutional infrastructure that supports mixed media scholarly research with large multimedia data collections, serving media scholars and digital humanists in general.

International audience; In this paper, we present an online communication-driven decision support system to align terms from a dataset with terms of another dataset (standardized controlled vocabulary or not). Heterotoki differs from existing proposals in that it takes place at the interface with humans, inviting the experts to commit on their definitions, so as to either agree to validate the mapping or to propose some enrichment to the terminologies. More precisely, differently to most of existing proposals that support terminology alignment, Heterotoki sustains the negotiation of meaning thanks to semantic coordination support within its interface design. This negotiation involves domain experts having produced multiple datasets.

Περιέχει το πλήρες κείμενο The paper presents the introduction of Open Access movement in the Academic environment, pros and cons of the adoption of OA by Universities and how the European Union is enforcing the use of Open Access. The ways of implementing OA, the policies of publishers and journals regarding the deposits of publications and the RoMEO and Juliet projects are also referred in an effort to give an overview of the conditions in exploiting Open Access, either as authors, publishers or end users. The adoption of the Berlin declaration on Open Access to Knowledge in the Sciences and Humanities by the Senate of the University of Cyprus is commented in the paper. Furthermore an analysis of the projects OpenAIRE and OpenAIREplus in which the University of Cyprus Library is involved is provided.
