The DDRS - or Data Deposit Recommendation Service - recommends research data repositories to humanities researchers searching for deposit services for their research data, which comply to criteria such as PIDs, funders’ requirements, disciplinary scope or language preferences. The presentation shows the DDRS as re3data use case and explains how the relation between the web service (DDRS) and re3data for the information retrieval is implemented. The Sustaining Digital Humanities in the UK report is timely for the UK Digital Humanities (DH) landscape. The establishment of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) has created an opportune moment for the strategic planning of research infrastructure between and across all the research areas. Led by Giles Bergel and Pip Willcox, this report is based on the findings of a workshop held at the University of Oxford’s e-Research Centre (OeRC) on 21 June 2018 and sponsored by the Software Sustainability Institute. The workshop was led by an advisory board of Digital Humanities practitioners, representing a range of career stages, roles, and disciplines. The workshop’s organisers and advisory board are the joint authors of this report, with contributions from workshop participants. The mission of the Software Sustainability Institute (SSI) is to cultivate better, more sustainable, research software to enable world-class research. Currently celebrating its 10th year, the SSI has achieved broadening engagement across academic communities including humanities – for example as a longstanding supporter of the Digital Humanities at Oxford Summer School (DHOxSS), and with SSI Fellows in the arts and humanities areas. This report was commissioned by the SSI with the aim of advancing its mission within the humanities. Digital Humanities, a broad intersection of models, methods, tools, materials, career paths and affiliations, in both established and novel disciplines was identified as the area within the humanities that most closely aligns with the SSI’s role. The Software Sustainability Institute is supported by the UK Research Councils through Grants EP/H043160/1, EP/N006410/1, and EP/S021779/1.

DARIAH, the Digital Research Infrastructure for the Arts and Humanities, aims to enhance and support digitally-enabled research and teaching across the humanities and arts. By bringing together national activities from Member countries, DARIAH is able to offer a portfolio of services and activities centred around research communities. DARIAH was established as a European legal entity in August 2014 with 15 countries - Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, The Netherlands, Slovenia and Serbia – as Founding Members. This was an important step towards developing a research infrastructure for sharing and sustaining digital arts and humanities knowledge across Europe and beyond. Using the opportunity to present a poster at DH Benelux 2015 as a starting point, the authors would like to explore how DARIAH-BE, DARIAH-LU and DARIAH-NL could collaborate to both strengthen their participation in DARIAH within their individual countries and together as the Benelux region. Initial ideas include: a) increasing collaboration between researchers and infrastructure providers: taking advantage of the geographical proximity and language synergies to participate in shared activities e.g. joint research projects and training events, b) increasing funding opportunities: exploring regional possibilities for funding and establishing partnerships for European funding proposals and c) sharing DARIAH knowledge and experience: increasing understanding and identifying synergies between the DARIAH activities in each country. Through strengthening the collaboration between DARIAH activities in Belgium, Luxembourg and The Netherlands, we would like to facilitate maximum participation of digital humanities researchers in the Benelux region in DARIAH in order to take full advantage of the benefits of being part of the European DARIAH community.

International audience; Navigating through the rich and dynamically evolving (Wouters et al., 2013) Digital Humanities (henceforth DH) landscape can be a time-consuming task and difficult to integrate into researchers' everyday routines. Yet primary goals of the DH paradigm such as 1. broadening and deepening the adoption of digital methods amongst humanities scholars and 2. facilitating the culture of reuse of already existing resources requires sufficient tools that make DH resources, methods and best practices visible, easily discoverable and freely accessible for researchers in all levels of expertise. The OpenMethods metablog aims to fulfil this need and provides a platform to bring together all formats of Open Access publications in different languages about methods in DH to spread the knowledge and raise peer recognition for them.

This report provides information about activities and progress towards establishing DARIAH membership in six countries: the Czech Republic, Finland, Israel, Spain, Switzerland, and the UK, which took place between July and December 2019. Previous activities were described in detail in the D3.2 - Regularly Monitor Country-Specific Progress in Enabling New DARIAH Membership. During the project lifetime, the Czech Republic joined DARIAH ERIC; in other countries, collaboration with DARIAH has been greatly strengthened and significant progress regarding DARIAH membership has been achieved. The report also outlines the next steps in the accession processes, building on the results of the DESIR project.

This document is the final, updated, version of deliverable D2.1 of the PARTHENOS project, which addresses user requirements and needs. It contains a comprehensive report based on a review of literature produced by previous relevant projects, supplemented with additional direct input from PARTHENOS partners. A case study of DARIAH-DE and MWW MWW stands for three institutions, united by more than 500 years of German and European ideas, literature and culture – and since 2013 by a research association.1 The German Literature Archive Marbach, the Klassik Stiftung Weimar and the Herzog August Library Wolfenbüttel collect, preserve and provide access to sources that are crucial to the study of German literary and intellectual tradition. Thereby they have devoted themselves to the long-term transformation of cultural heritage in Germany. In all three institutions, digitization of their collections has been an important task to build digital collections and provide worldwide access to this cultural heritage. Furthermore, new approaches in the field of digital humanities have been adopted to strengthen the connection of digital collections with the humanities and cultural studies (Schreibmann et al. 2004). All of these goals can be reached easier by cooperation and the use of established tools and infrastructure, which will be demonstrated, based on the example of the implementation of a generic search over collections of all three institutions. For the implementation of the generic search the Data Federation Architecture (DFA) from DARIAH-DE is used.

In this session of the series, you will get acquainted with SKOSMOS, a web-based tool providing services for accessing controlled vocabularies, which are used by indexers describing documents and searchers looking for suitable keywords. Vocabularies are accessed via SPARQL endpoints containing SKOS vocabularies. SKOSMOS has been developed by the National Library of Finland. You can view a demo here. Since the end of the 1980s the historiographical context has changed considerably. Over the course of the last ten years, we have reached the “digital age” and computers as well as resources available via the Internet have become indispensable tools for all researchers. Be it for the stage of documentation or for actual writing, we are now living and working in a context where historians can no longer completely refuse all IT tools. As long as there are no solid, durable, large-scale training efforts to equip all historians with the skills to use the new and old IT tools, their potential is necessarily limited. While there have been studies on “researchers” in general and also on political scientists in particular, there has, to our knowledge, been no scientific study which would allow us to reach conclusions on the use of IT tools and digital resources by French historians. It is thus difficult to reach conclusions on a larger scale and we have decided to base our analysis on our own experience in order to consider what could be the transformations of the historian’s craft in the digital age. We will thus proceed first to a series of conclusions based on our activities in mediation (teaching and blogging), before proposing a typology of the principal evolutions. We will conclude with a certain number of propositions as far as training of historians is concerned.
