Diese Präsentationen wurden im Rahmen des Online-Seminars zur Kooperation zwischen DFG und OAPEN Library am 14.03.2023 von gezeigt. Die Veranstaltung richtete sich an Institutionen, die im Rahmen des Förderprogramms "Open-Access-Publikationskosten" gefördert wurden. Der Foliensatz setzt sich aus drei Präsentationen von Michael Geuenich (DFG), Niels Stern (OAPEN/DOAB) und Ronald Snijder (OAPEN/DOAB) zusammen. These presentations were shown at the online seminar on the cooperation between the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the OAPEN Library on 14 March 2023. The event was intended for institutions that received funding from the "Open Access Publication Costs" funding programme. The slides consist of three presentations by Michael Geuenich (DFG), Niels Stern (OAPEN/DOAB) and Ronald Snijder (OAPEN/DOAB).

The transformation from analogue to digital data is the core principle of the digital turn in the sciences and humanities. Within numismatics, this is visible in projects to digitise coin collections and publish them in online catalogues (e. g. IKMK and KENOM), or in coin find databases (e. g. AFE-RGK). The project nomisma.org was founded to promote and support the application of LOD within numismatics, and is now firmly established internationally as the primary resource for the domain. Drawing on the vocabulary and ontology of nomisma.org, a range of web-based resources, such as OCRE for the Roman Imperial coinage, now translate individual coins from instances in collection or find databases to exemplars of standard typologies or classifications,. However, in contrast to the coinages of much of the Graeco-Roman world, for which well established classifications exist, the lack of a single, universal classification for Celtic coinages presents a range of challenges. Instead there are a number of classifications for individual coinages and regions, many of which cannot be mutually reconciled. To address this, the BMBF cooperative project ClaReNet is developing a nomisma-conform virtual union catalogue, Online Celtic Coinage (OCC) to provide both a human-user friendly resource and machine-readable, re-usable data for the semantic web (LOUD and FAIR). This presents not only a unique opportunity to attain interconnectivity between the disparate classifications of analogue publications, but also to incorporate contextual, in particular the archaeological information (distribution, findspot) that is essential for establishing the chronology of Celtic coinages and understanding their use. Taking OCC as an example, this paper aims to explain how we would define LOD usability for Celtic coins and how data from different contexts of collection can be brought together in a virtual union catalogue.

Controlled vocabularies prove useful for improving the quality of topical keywords describing SSH publications. This presentation deals with the challenge of improving the quality of keywords which are expressed in the form of strings (keywords-strings). Experiences from Dariah.lab project (lab.dariah.pl) and TRIPLE project show that these keywords-strings on many occasions originate from controlled vocabularies if they were applied by institutional actors (e.g. data officers in digital libraries) and hence can be easily enriched with references to controlled vocabularies. On the other hand, keywords-strings from authors are less frequently originating from these kinds of resources. This presentation outlines automated and semi-automated methods for enriching both types of keywords-strings with references to controlled vocabularies.

SSH Open Marketplace (https://marketplace.sshopencloud.eu) acts as a place to get information on tools, services, training materials, publications, datasets, and workflows from the Social Sciences and Humanities domain. Users can propose to add new items or to extend the information about existing items. SSH Open Marketplace data model operates with dynamic fields that can be connected to vocabularies. The presentation gives information about the technical background of the integration of vocabularies and shares experiences with this approach. On the “SSH vocabs commons” project the used vocabularies of the SSH Open Marketplace are represented. Ideas on how to further develop the “SSH vocabs commons” project are discussed from the perspective of the SSH Open Marketplace.

Founded as an ERIC in 2014, DARIAH has long held a place in the SSH Research Landscape. Like any research infrastructure, or indeed any type of infrastructure, its work often passes unseen. That does not mean that DARIAH has been inactive, it simply means that the work carried out by the infrastructure focused more on the construction of our international research infrastructure and of the various national consortia, as well as policy and advocacy on behalf of our communities. DARIAH also served, and serves, as an excellent incubator for European project grants and the creation of project consortia. These important initiatives, however, are rarely seen or appreciated by the individual researcher. However, with the increasing maturity of the infrastructure and notably the SSH Open Marketplace and DARIAH Campus platforms, DARIAH can proudly boast services that appeal to the individual researcher. Joining with the existing, grassroots and researcher-led Working Groups, DARIAH now has multiple means of enabling research in social sciences and humanities in a way that is visible to the individual researcher. Our important unseen infrastructure work continues, and it is joined now by these more visible and tangible initiatives. 

SSHOC is developing a data repository service for SSH institutions. The new service is built upon the Dataverse software and will be adjusted to the needs of the European research infrastructures. Dataverse is a community-driven open source software platform which enables integrations with other data services such as DataCite or ROpenScience. Its modular design principle uses API’s to allow for distributed file storage and support the addition of further microservices. We invite interested researchers and institutes from across the SSH community to attend the webinar and share your ideas and requirements. Would your research institute like to use the SSHOC Dataverse, once it's available? Would you as an individual researcher like to use Dataverse? What are your requirements? How much localisation do you need? Would you like to use a central service in the cloud or an installation in your institutional environment? The webinar starts with a presentation of the current functionality, followed by a presentation of new features to be developed. After these presentations we will collect input from the audience. The discussion will focus on essential requirements for such a service, preferences, organisation, and necessary training. The webinar will be chaired by Marion Wittenberg, service manager of DataverseNL at Data Archiving and Networked Services (DANS), together with her colleague Laura Huis in ‘t Veld, functional manager, and Péter Király, researcher and software developer at Georg-August-Universität Göttingen. The event is intended for researchers, research institutes, and university and faculty staff across SSH domains and is not limited to the DARIAH community.

This presentation provides an overview of the SSH Open Marketplace, what it is and how it works. It focuses especially on the creation of workflows, and was used as supporting documentation for two Curation Sprint sessions given the 14th and the 21st of March 2022. "Interested in helping your fellow researchers by explaining real research workflows? Want to show off how you conduct research with tools and services listed in the SSH Open Marketplace? Want to make full use of the contextualization and interlinking features of the Marketplace by explaining step by step how you use digital humanities tools to advance the social sciences and humanities? This curation sprint is for you! WHO: Researchers interested in creating a Workflow in the SSH Open Marketplace WHAT: A two-part training session on how to use the SSH Open Marketplace, and specifically, it's research workflows WHEN: Monday, March 14th at 11am and Monday, March 21st at 11 am. The first of these hour-long sessions will be a presentation on the SSH Marketplace and how to create a workflow entry. After a week for you to explore the SSH Open Marketplace and make your own research workflow, we will then have an hour-long session to work on improving your entries and discuss any issues you may have had. WHY: Workflows are a key added value of the SSH Open Marketplace, and take full advantage of powerful semantic interlinking of Tools, Publications, Training Materials, and Datasets at the heart of the Marketplace's data model. It will show other researchers real research use cases for the various tools, taking them step by step in the process of conducting research in the digital age. It is the best way to show off your tools and research processes, by making them public for other like-minded scholars to see!"

OpenAIRE Open Access Week Webinar: Public release of the OpenAIRE-DARIAH Community gateway: How to make your research more visible and more connected A paramount challenge in present-day knowledge production is to communicate research results in ways that align with our increasingly digital and also increasingly diverse research workflows. Research discovery platforms that have been developed from EU grants and will remain open to the public are game changers in this respect. They support the visibility and discoverability of all sorts of research outputs (datasets, software, protocols, teaching materials etc.) to showcase a broader view of scholarship and enable a greater transparency of scholarly communication. This webinar aimed to introduce an instance of them, the OpenAIRE-DARIAH Community Gateway. Built on the top of the OpenAIRE Research Graph, the OpenAIRE Community Gateways work as single access points to a virtual space that connects metadata descriptions of all scholarly objects that are important to the given community. The DARIAH dashboard brings together publications and a broad range of research data (digital critical editions, plain text, archived data, audiovisual data, raw data, encoded documents, software applications, source code, images, structured graphics, databases, structured text, scientific and statistical data formats) that are hosted by DARIAH services such as NAKALA and TextGrid. As such, it significantly reduces the fragmentation of DARIAH research outputs across the web. A major benefit of such a discovery environment is that it provides scholarly communities with a single entry point to DARIAH-affiliated research outputs. This entry point, in turn, is embedded into the context of a bigger collection of Digital Humanities and Cultural Heritage corpus enabling therefore arts and humanities researchers to find DARIAH outputs more easily, as an integral part of their discovery routine.
