    This is a revew of the present-day data lanscape prepared as deliverable 5.1. in the framework of the Horizon2020 Project "Computational Literary Studies Infrastracture". This landscape review, for which Work Package 5 is responsible, focuses on intellectual access, i.e. providing guidance for finding and sharing literary data, while Work Package 6 approaches the task from a more technological side, collecting and analyzing literary corpora, available formats, tools, and metadata in order to create an exploratory catalogue / inventory of literary corpora and to provide a transformation matrix/toolbox for solving common issues. Yet we coordinate our efforts – beginning with the compilation of the table of literary collections – therefore one can regard these as two sides of the same coin. The review’s point of departure is the abundance of existing data and their diversity or heterogeneity as regards corpus design and underlying concepts, for example the definitions of text (is it a source, an edition, a data set? see chapter 3), the purpose of a corpus (e.g. general, reference, or monitoring corpora, special purpose corpora; see chapter 4), central considerations or criteria regarding the construction of a corpus (sampling, balancing, representativeness, annotation model(s), data format(s); see likewise chapter 4). How can I go about obtaining data without transgressing ethical or legal boundaries (see chapter 5)? We ask: How can we assist literary scholars in searching for and finding existing data that are relevant to their own research questions? And additionally, what kind of research question is relevant concerning the present-day state of the data landscape and literariness and textuality?     Storytelling tools aim to leverage the technological restraints of creating and sharing digital narratives, allowing non-expert users to deploy projects and populate them with custom-made content. In other words, storytelling tools aim at giving space for diverse narratives to emerge and spread in the digital sphere. As facilitators of imagining and communicating ideas, they may also be considered incubators of rethinking societal challenges. The three storytelling tools developed in the framework of the HORIZON2020 SO-CLOSE project allow users to create and publish multimedia, multilingual and accessible digital cultural heritage projects. In this demonstration, we present the three tools: the interactive story map, the immersive web doc and the participatory virtual exhibition. We showcase the publishing interfaces (front-end), the authoring and content management system (back-end) and a use-case application (project). The present prototypes will be publicly released by the end of the project (December 2022). SO-CLOSE is a three-year project that aims at enhancing social cohesion through sharing the cultural heritage of forced migrations. Based on theories of cultural heritage-making, the project works towards exposing the commonalities of past and present experiences with the mediation of innovative digital tools and collaborative approaches. The act of storytelling becomes a premise for the potential of a better understanding between local communities and newcomers. In this context, the three tools are conceived and developed to empower cultural institutions and communities in building and publishing their digital stories. To achieve this, end-users were intensively involved in the design process, through participatory methodologies. Starting from a state-of-the-art tools analysis, the project collaborated with cultural institutions, NGOs, refugees and asylum seekers, local communities, researchers and policy makers in the requirements elicitation process (interviews and focus groups), co-design workshops and validation surveys. Overall, the users of the storytelling tools can create projects based on journeys, chapters or exhibitions, use modules that can be selected, shuffled and repeated, populate them with their own content – including 360 videos and images and 3D models – and carry out crowdsourcing calls. The projects are published online, with integrated features for accessibility, interactivity and data interoperability with other repositories.     The aim of this poster is to provide an overview of the principal objectives of the newly started H2020 Computational Literary Studies (CLS) project- https://www.clsinfra.io. CLS is a infrastructure project works to develop and bring together resources of high-quality data, tools and knowledge to aid new approaches to studying literature in the digital age. Conducting computational literary studies has a number of challenges and opportunities from multilingual and bringing together distributing information. At present, the landscape of literary data is diverse and fragmented. Even though many resources are currently available in digital libraries, archives, repositories, websites or catalogues, a lack of standardisation hinders how they are constructed, accessed and the extent to which they are reusable (Ciotti 2014). CLS project aims to federate these resources, with the tools needed to interrogate them, and with a widened base of users, in the spirit of the FAIR and CARE principles (Wilkinson et al. 2016). The resulting improvements will benefit researchers by bridging gaps between greater- and lesser- resourced communities in computational literary studies and beyond, ultimately offering opportunities to create new research and insight into our shared and varied European cultural heritage. Rather than building entirely new resources for literary studies, the project is committed to exploiting and connecting the already-existing efforts and initiatives, in order to acknowledge and utilize the immense human labour that has already been undertaken. Therefore, the project builds on recently- compiled high-quality literary corpora, such as DraCor and ELTeC (Fischer et al. 2019, Burnard et al. 2021, Schöch et al. in press), integrates existing tools for text analysis, e.g. TXM, stylo, multilingual NLP pipelines (Heiden 2010, Eder et al. 2016), and takes advantage of deep integration with two other infrastructural projects, namely the CLARIN and DARIAH ERICs. Consequently, the project aims at building a coherent ecosystem to foster the technical and intellectual findability and accessibility of relevant data. The ecosystem consists of (1) resources, i.e. text collections for drama, poetry and prose in several languages, (2) tools, (3) methodological and theoretical considerations, (4) a network of CLS scholars based at different European institutions, (5) a system of short-term research stays for both early career researchers and seasoned scholars, (6) a repository for training materials, as well as (7) an efficient dissemination strategy.     The 11th sustainable development goal highlights the importance of making our cities more inclusive. For that, planning processes should become more engaging and empower citizens to actively participate in designing their environments. However, the COVID-19 crisis exposed inequalities and posed challenges to communal activities due to restrictions on face-to-face activities. These constraints brought many researchers and practitioners to rethink the process of co-designing workshops, putting digitalization in the spotlight. The present study consists of a systematic literature review focusing on understanding how digital technologies affect participatory approaches in urban design and how they have evolved since the 1990s. Also, it investigates the correlation between levels of participation and interaction in different types of collaborative design workshops held in communities. We found that many authors have been developing new methodologies and digital tools aiming to digitalize the co-designing experience through mediation. However, there is no evolutionary evidence of tools in the field creating bridges between digitalization, participation, and interaction. We argue that a research agenda is required to produce more sophisticated tools to tackle social barriers and support inclusive design towards sustainable urban development patterns.

    "Literarische Werke und deren digitale Repräsentationen stellen auch in den Fachbereichen der Computational Literary Studies (CLS) das Fundament für epistemische Auseinandersetzungen und Diskurse. In unserem Teilprojekt Data Selection and Curation des europäischen ""Computational Literary Studies Infrastructure""-Projekts möchten wir Brücken zu wissensbasierten Ressourcen für die CLS-Community aufbauen, um die Zugangsparadigmen für literarische Daten signifikant zu rekonfigurieren und erheblich zu verbessern. Um die Auffindbarkeit und den forschungsorientierten Zugang zu literarischen Daten für die CLS-Community zu ermöglichen, ist eine Inventarisierung der CLS-Datenlandschaft erforderlich, die forschungsrelevante Kriterien für die Datenauswahl sowie deren Erfassung und Beschreibung anwendet. Mit dieser Inventarisierung, die wir in Form einer Data Landscape Review durchführen, kann die vorhandene Datenlandschaft als digitales Erbe für CLS-Kontexte erst umfassend sichtbar und als Vorlage für weitere Forschungsvorhaben zugänglich gemacht werden.     Der ganzt��gige Workshop f��hrt in DraCor (https://dracor.org) ein. Hierbei handelt es sich um eine offene Plattform zur Erforschung von Dramen in verschiedenen Sprachen. Anhand von praktischen Beispielen erlernen die Teilnehmer*innen Methoden der digitalen Dramenanalyse. Zun��chst erfolgt eine Vorstellung des Konzepts der "Programmable Corpora" ��� infrastrukturell-forschungsorientierte, offene, erweiterbare, LOD-freundliche Volltextkorpora, die es erm��glichen sollen, auf niederschwellige Weise diverse Forschungsfragen aus dem Bereich der digitalen Literaturwissenschaft datenbasiert, nachvollziehbar und reproduzierbar zu bearbeiten. Danach wird in Hands-on-Tutorials in Kleingruppen eine praktische Einf��hrung in das Erstellen von TEI-Dramenkorpora zur Analyse mit DraCor gegeben. Praktische Beispiele zu stilometrischen und netzwerkanalytischen Untersuchungen von Dramen f��hren in die Verwendung der DraCor-API ein. Ebenso werden M��glichkeiten zu korpus��bergreifenden Abfragen und Einbeziehung von Informationen aus der Linked-Open-Data-Cloud mit SPARQL erprobt. Ein Beitrag zur 8.     Im Rahmen des Horizon-2020-gef��rderten Projekts "Social Sciences & Humanities Open Cloud" (SSHOC), das eine Laufzeit von 2019���2022 hat, wird der SSH Open Marketplace entwickelt, der einen ��berblick nicht nur ��ber digitale Tools und Services bietet, sondern auch ��ber Trainingsmaterialien, Publikationen, Datensets und Workflows. Dabei werden diese miteinander kontextualisiert: Der Eintrag zu einem Tool verlinkt etwa Forschungspaper, die mithilfe dieses Tools entstanden sind, desweiteren passende Trainingseinheiten, zum Beispiel aus dem "Programming Historian", und, falls vorhanden, Forschungsdaten in einem f��r das Tool geeigneten Format. Das flexible Datenmodell und das Exponieren einer offenen API erm��glichen es, das gesammelte Praxiswissen f��r die Digital Humanities nutz- und erforschbar zu machen und eine neue, sich aktiv weiterentwickelnde Datenbasis daf��r zu schaffen.     The findings reported here have been obtained in the framework of CLS INFRA’s Work Package 3 concerned with “Methodological Considerations of Computational Literary Studies” (WP3). The overarching objective of WP3 is to identify, document and show-case current shared practices in CLS research. This objective supports several purposes, among them guiding infrastructure development, defining training opportunities, and consolidating the CLS community. Specifically, one can deduct infrastructure requirements from such findings and feed them to other work packages within the project, in order to ensure that decisions taken when designing a research infrastructure for the CLS community are informed by these requirements.1 Also, such a documentation of current shared practices can help design a useful training programme both for scholars who are newly entering the field and for more experienced researchers. In addition, it can help consolidate the CLS community by making shared research practices visible. Within WP3, the first step to identify, document and show-case best practices in CLS research is to capture the current state of the art in terms of widespread research practices in CLS. Task 3.1 on the “Baseline Methodological User Needs Analysis” is devoted to this aim.

    The main task of this deliverable was to explore current gaps in teaching of research skills for computational literary studies to inform the CLS INFRA project’s own approach to training schools and chart the territory to gain broader insight into current CLS teaching practices. We approached the task through an explicit mapping of 1) existing training opportunities (“supply”) and 2) opinions of the practitioner community (“demand”) to a single grid of skills, where it would be possible to identify the gaps through comparison. From four broadly defined stages in a research cycle: 1) Theory and research setup, 2) Collection, 3) Analysis, 4) Delivery we derived 26 skills. To understand supply we have manually annotated current offers in a sample of European university courses in Digital Humanities and summer school workshops. To index demand we set up an online survey to ask the community to evaluate each skill from the grid based on its perceived future prospects in the field and teaching (1-5 scale response, 118 participants). After value normalization, areas of Analysis and Collection, especially advanced text modeling, classification, statistics, corpus building, and access to existing collections look undersaturated. Across Research setup the focus is on research design principles, while Delivery shows underrepresentation of knowledge on reproducibility. The survey also offered a chance to observe the demographic structure of the CLS community. Most of the responses came from early career researchers, indicating a new generational wave within computational literary studies. Participant gender was balanced, although more late career men than women were represented, and men were more represented in disciplines with technical backgrounds. Self-reported involvement in CLS and experience in computational skills was likewise on average lower for female participants. Researchers who work in the field of CLS also report more proficiency in computational methods, which suggests that these go hand in hand in current practice. Open questions built into the survey showed further nuance in community lines of thinking about opportunities and pitfalls for training in CLS. Among the topics most frequently mentioned were a quantitative lack of (centralized) training, concern about the discipline’s positioning, and the lagging behind in institutionalization of computational research skills. To a lesser degree, participants addressed the lack of resources to learn. Several participants reported missing the opportunities to pursue a career in CLS. Others felt overwhelmed by the unorganized offer in CLS training and material, or described a qualitative lack in schooling beyond introductory modules. When asked about missed areas in the survey, participants suggested more focus on the heterogeneity of the current textual landscape in CLS and the discipline’s connections outside of academia. The reported core issues for training overlap thematically with the outlined areas of improvement of this survey, showing that this survey was not all-encompassing. It underlines the importance of foregrounding community voices in taking steps to support skill advancement in CLS research.

    Digital 3D modelling and visualization technologies have been widely applied to support research in the humanities since the 1980s. Since technological backgrounds, project opportunities, and methodological considerations for application are widely discussed in the literature, one of the next tasks is to validate these techniques within a wider scientific community and establish them in the culture of academic disciplines. This article resulted from a postdoctoral thesis and is intended to provide a comprehensive overview on the use of digital 3D technologies in the humanities with regards to (1) scenarios, user communities, and epistemic challenges; (2) technologies, UX design, and workflows; and (3) framework conditions as legislation, infrastructures, and teaching programs. Although the results are of relevance for 3D modelling in all humanities disciplines, the focus of our studies is on modelling of past architectural and cultural landscape objects via interpretative 3D reconstruction methods.

    This is a revew of the present-day data lanscape prepared as deliverable 5.1. in the framework of the Horizon2020 Project "Computational Literary Studies Infrastracture". This landscape review, for which Work Package 5 is responsible, focuses on intellectual access, i.e. providing guidance for finding and sharing literary data, while Work Package 6 approaches the task from a more technological side, collecting and analyzing literary corpora, available formats, tools, and metadata in order to create an exploratory catalogue / inventory of literary corpora and to provide a transformation matrix/toolbox for solving common issues. Yet we coordinate our efforts – beginning with the compilation of the table of literary collections – therefore one can regard these as two sides of the same coin. The review’s point of departure is the abundance of existing data and their diversity or heterogeneity as regards corpus design and underlying concepts, for example the definitions of text (is it a source, an edition, a data set? see chapter 3), the purpose of a corpus (e.g. general, reference, or monitoring corpora, special purpose corpora; see chapter 4), central considerations or criteria regarding the construction of a corpus (sampling, balancing, representativeness, annotation model(s), data format(s); see likewise chapter 4). How can I go about obtaining data without transgressing ethical or legal boundaries (see chapter 5)?     Storytelling tools aim to leverage the technological restraints of creating and sharing digital narratives, allowing non-expert users to deploy projects and populate them with custom-made content. In other words, storytelling tools aim at giving space for diverse narratives to emerge and spread in the digital sphere. As facilitators of imagining and communicating ideas, they may also be considered incubators of rethinking societal challenges. The three storytelling tools developed in the framework of the HORIZON2020 SO-CLOSE project allow users to create and publish multimedia, multilingual and accessible digital cultural heritage projects. In this demonstration, we present the three tools: the interactive story map, the immersive web doc and the participatory virtual exhibition. We showcase the publishing interfaces (front-end), the authoring and content management system (back-end) and a use-case application (project). The present prototypes will be publicly released by the end of the project (December 2022). SO-CLOSE is a three-year project that aims at enhancing social cohesion through sharing the cultural heritage of forced migrations. Based on theories of cultural heritage-making, the project works towards exposing the commonalities of past and present experiences with the mediation of innovative digital tools and collaborative approaches. The act of storytelling becomes a premise for the potential of a better understanding between local communities and newcomers. In this context, the three tools are conceived and developed to empower cultural institutions and communities in building and publishing their digital stories. To achieve this, end-users were intensively involved in the design process, through participatory methodologies. Starting from a state-of-the-art tools analysis, the project collaborated with cultural institutions, NGOs, refugees and asylum seekers, local communities, researchers and policy makers in the requirements elicitation process (interviews and focus groups), co-design workshops and validation surveys. Overall, the users of the storytelling tools can create projects based on journeys, chapters or exhibitions, use modules that can be selected, shuffled and repeated, populate them with their own content – including 360 videos and images and 3D models – and carry out crowdsourcing calls. The projects are published online, with integrated features for accessibility, interactivity and data interoperability with other repositories.     The aim of this poster is to provide an overview of the principal objectives of the newly started H2020 Computational Literary Studies (CLS) project- https://www.clsinfra.io. CLS is a infrastructure project works to develop and bring together resources of high-quality data, tools and knowledge to aid new approaches to studying literature in the digital age. Conducting computational literary studies has a number of challenges and opportunities from multilingual and bringing together distributing information. At present, the landscape of literary data is diverse and fragmented. Even though many resources are currently available in digital libraries, archives, repositories, websites or catalogues, a lack of standardisation hinders how they are constructed, accessed and the extent to which they are reusable (Ciotti 2014). CLS project aims to federate these resources, with the tools needed to interrogate them, and with a widened base of users, in the spirit of the FAIR and CARE principles (Wilkinson et al. 2016). The resulting improvements will benefit researchers by bridging gaps between greater- and lesser- resourced communities in computational literary studies and beyond, ultimately offering opportunities to create new research and insight into our shared and varied European cultural heritage. Rather than building entirely new resources for literary studies, the project is committed to exploiting and connecting the already-existing efforts and initiatives, in order to acknowledge and utilize the immense human labour that has already been undertaken. Therefore, the project builds on recently- compiled high-quality literary corpora, such as DraCor and ELTeC (Fischer et al. 2019, Burnard et al. 2021, Schöch et al. in press), integrates existing tools for text analysis, e.g. TXM, stylo, multilingual NLP pipelines (Heiden 2010, Eder et al. 2016), and takes advantage of deep integration with two other infrastructural projects, namely the CLARIN and DARIAH ERICs. Consequently, the project aims at building a coherent ecosystem to foster the technical and intellectual findability and accessibility of relevant data. The ecosystem consists of (1) resources, i.e. text collections for drama, poetry and prose in several languages, (2) tools, (3) methodological and theoretical considerations, (4) a network of CLS scholars based at different European institutions, (5) a system of short-term research stays for both early career researchers and seasoned scholars, (6) a repository for training materials, as well as (7) an efficient dissemination strategy.     The 11th sustainable development goal highlights the importance of making our cities more inclusive. For that, planning processes should become more engaging and empower citizens to actively participate in designing their environments. However, the COVID-19 crisis exposed inequalities and posed challenges to communal activities due to restrictions on face-to-face activities. These constraints brought many researchers and practitioners to rethink the process of co-designing workshops, putting digitalization in the spotlight. The present study consists of a systematic literature review focusing on understanding how digital technologies affect participatory approaches in urban design and how they have evolved since the 1990s. Also, it investigates the correlation between levels of participation and interaction in different types of collaborative design workshops held in communities. We found that many authors have been developing new methodologies and digital tools aiming to digitalize the co-designing experience through mediation. However, there is no evolutionary evidence of tools in the field creating bridges between digitalization, participation, and interaction. We argue that a research agenda is required to produce more sophisticated tools to tackle social barriers and support inclusive design towards sustainable urban development patterns.

    "Literarische Werke und deren digitale Repräsentationen stellen auch in den Fachbereichen der Computational Literary Studies (CLS) das Fundament für epistemische Auseinandersetzungen und Diskurse. In unserem Teilprojekt Data Selection and Curation des europäischen ""Computational Literary Studies Infrastructure""-Projekts möchten wir Brücken zu wissensbasierten Ressourcen für die CLS-Community aufbauen, um die Zugangsparadigmen für literarische Daten signifikant zu rekonfigurieren und erheblich zu verbessern. Um die Auffindbarkeit und den forschungsorientierten Zugang zu literarischen Daten für die CLS-Community zu ermöglichen, ist eine Inventarisierung der CLS-Datenlandschaft erforderlich, die forschungsrelevante Kriterien für die Datenauswahl sowie deren Erfassung und Beschreibung anwendet. Mit dieser Inventarisierung, die wir in Form einer Data Landscape Review durchführen, kann die vorhandene Datenlandschaft als digitales Erbe für CLS-Kontexte erst umfassend sichtbar und als Vorlage für weitere Forschungsvorhaben zugänglich gemacht werden. Unser Posterbeitrag präsentiert die Ergebnisse der Data Landscape Review, das Beschreibungsmodell, dessen Umsetzung in RDF und ein proof-of-concept des Online-Katalogs." Ein Beitrag zur 8.     Der ganzt��gige Workshop f��hrt in DraCor (https://dracor.org) ein. Hierbei handelt es sich um eine offene Plattform zur Erforschung von Dramen in verschiedenen Sprachen. Anhand von praktischen Beispielen erlernen die Teilnehmer*innen Methoden der digitalen Dramenanalyse. Zun��chst erfolgt eine Vorstellung des Konzepts der "Programmable Corpora" ��� infrastrukturell-forschungsorientierte, offene, erweiterbare, LOD-freundliche Volltextkorpora, die es erm��glichen sollen, auf niederschwellige Weise diverse Forschungsfragen aus dem Bereich der digitalen Literaturwissenschaft datenbasiert, nachvollziehbar und reproduzierbar zu bearbeiten. Danach wird in Hands-on-Tutorials in Kleingruppen eine praktische Einf��hrung in das Erstellen von TEI-Dramenkorpora zur Analyse mit DraCor gegeben. Praktische Beispiele zu stilometrischen und netzwerkanalytischen Untersuchungen von Dramen f��hren in die Verwendung der DraCor-API ein. Ebenso werden M��glichkeiten zu korpus��bergreifenden Abfragen und Einbeziehung von Informationen aus der Linked-Open-Data-Cloud mit SPARQL erprobt. Ein Beitrag zur 8.     Im Rahmen des Horizon-2020-gef��rderten Projekts "Social Sciences & Humanities Open Cloud" (SSHOC), das eine Laufzeit von 2019���2022 hat, wird der SSH Open Marketplace entwickelt, der einen ��berblick nicht nur ��ber digitale Tools und Services bietet, sondern auch ��ber Trainingsmaterialien, Publikationen, Datensets und Workflows. Dabei werden diese miteinander kontextualisiert: Der Eintrag zu einem Tool verlinkt etwa Forschungspaper, die mithilfe dieses Tools entstanden sind, desweiteren passende Trainingseinheiten, zum Beispiel aus dem "Programming Historian", und, falls vorhanden, Forschungsdaten in einem f��r das Tool geeigneten Format.     The findings reported here have been obtained in the framework of CLS INFRA’s Work Package 3 concerned with “Methodological Considerations of Computational Literary Studies” (WP3). The overarching objective of WP3 is to identify, document and show-case current shared practices in CLS research. This objective supports several purposes, among them guiding infrastructure development, defining training opportunities, and consolidating the CLS community. Specifically, one can deduct infrastructure requirements from such findings and feed them to other work packages within the project, in order to ensure that decisions taken when designing a research infrastructure for the CLS community are informed by these requirements.1 Also, such a documentation of current shared practices can help design a useful training programme both for scholars who are newly entering the field and for more experienced researchers. In addition, it can help consolidate the CLS community by making shared research practices visible. Within WP3, the first step to identify, document and show-case best practices in CLS research is to capture the current state of the art in terms of widespread research practices in CLS. Task 3.1 on the “Baseline Methodological User Needs Analysis” is devoted to this aim.

    The main task of this deliverable was to explore current gaps in teaching of research skills for computational literary studies to inform the CLS INFRA project’s own approach to training schools and chart the territory to gain broader insight into current CLS teaching practices. We approached the task through an explicit mapping of 1) existing training opportunities (“supply”) and 2) opinions of the practitioner community (“demand”) to a single grid of skills, where it would be possible to identify the gaps through comparison. From four broadly defined stages in a research cycle: 1) Theory and research setup, 2) Collection, 3) Analysis, 4) Delivery we derived 26 skills. To understand supply we have manually annotated current offers in a sample of European university courses in Digital Humanities and summer school workshops. To index demand we set up an online survey to ask the community to evaluate each skill from the grid based on its perceived future prospects in the field and teaching (1-5 scale response, 118 participants). After value normalization, areas of Analysis and Collection, especially advanced text modeling, classification, statistics, corpus building, and access to existing collections look undersaturated. Across Research setup the focus is on research design principles, while Delivery shows underrepresentation of knowledge on reproducibility. The survey also offered a chance to observe the demographic structure of the CLS community. Most of the responses came from early career researchers, indicating a new generational wave within computational literary studies. Participant gender was balanced, although more late career men than women were represented, and men were more represented in disciplines with technical backgrounds. Self-reported involvement in CLS and experience in computational skills was likewise on average lower for female participants. Researchers who work in the field of CLS also report more proficiency in computational methods, which suggests that these go hand in hand in current practice. Open questions built into the survey showed further nuance in community lines of thinking about opportunities and pitfalls for training in CLS. Among the topics most frequently mentioned were a quantitative lack of (centralized) training, concern about the discipline’s positioning, and the lagging behind in institutionalization of computational research skills. To a lesser degree, participants addressed the lack of resources to learn. Several participants reported missing the opportunities to pursue a career in CLS. Others felt overwhelmed by the unorganized offer in CLS training and material, or described a qualitative lack in schooling beyond introductory modules. When asked about missed areas in the survey, participants suggested more focus on the heterogeneity of the current textual landscape in CLS and the discipline’s connections outside of academia. The reported core issues for training overlap thematically with the outlined areas of improvement of this survey, showing that this survey was not all-encompassing. It underlines the importance of foregrounding community voices in taking steps to support skill advancement in CLS research.

    Digital 3D modelling and visualization technologies have been widely applied to support research in the humanities since the 1980s. Since technological backgrounds, project opportunities, and methodological considerations for application are widely discussed in the literature, one of the next tasks is to validate these techniques within a wider scientific community and establish them in the culture of academic disciplines. This article resulted from a postdoctoral thesis and is intended to provide a comprehensive overview on the use of digital 3D technologies in the humanities with regards to (1) scenarios, user communities, and epistemic challenges; (2) technologies, UX design, and workflows; and (3) framework conditions as legislation, infrastructures, and teaching programs. Although the results are of relevance for 3D modelling in all humanities disciplines, the focus of our studies is on modelling of past architectural and cultural landscape objects via interpretative 3D reconstruction methods.
