description Publicationkeyboard_double_arrow_right Article , Conference object , Preprint 2023 FrancePublisher:IOP Publishing Funded by:EC | GENESE 17EC| GENESE 17Authors: Georgoudis, P.E;Georgoudis, P.E;This contribution discusses a new perception of the structure of compound nuclei by introducing intermediate states of the Feshbach formalism of nuclear reactions in the Interacting Boson Model of nuclear structure. The stake is to explore the manifestation of the unitary limit in heavy, even-even nuclei. Interactions that govern Feshbach resonances of cold and dilute atomic gases suggest the formulation of an IBM-compound Hamiltonian for scattering two neutrons (2n) from a heavy, even-even target (A). The solutions of the corresponding coupled channel equations host a 2n-IBM state resonance. It turns out that the unitary limit is measurable in a heavy A+2n compound nucleus at low temperatures. That measurement is feasible through the fluctuations of the cross-sections that tune the 2n-A scattering length. We measured the relative performance of USM exclusively located either on the host (USM host) or on the device (USM device), or automatically managed and moved (USM shared). We also tried to quantify the impact of formatting data in a GPU-friendly manner as opposed to using a regular pointer-based structure in which the C++ allocator was replaced by the SYCL allocator sycl::malloc. We first made a PCIe-bound micro-benchmark to test the SYCL memory models with a simple access pattern. We then switched to a real use-case provided by Traccc, a research project associated to the ACTS particle tracking library. The algorithm of interest is SparseCCL, a clustering algorithm used on the first step of track reconstruction. For consistency, all tests were made on a single hardware architecture: a recent server having a discrete GPU with dedicated VRAM, representative of the hardware currently used by the ACTS team.

A software-only High Level Trigger will enable unprecedented flexibility for trigger selections. During the first stage (HLT1), a sub-set of the full offline track reconstruction for charged particles is run to select particles of interest based on single or two-track selections. This includes decoding the raw data, clustering of hits, pattern recognition, as well as track fitting, ghost track rejection with machine learning techniques and finally event selections. HLT1 will be processed entirely on O(100) GPUs. We will present the integration of the GPU HLT1 into LHCb’s data acquisition system in preparation for data taking in 2022.

The first prototype of an AM pure-copper radio frequency quadrupole (RFQ) has been produced, corresponding to 1/4 of a 4-vane RFQ*. It was optimised for production with state-of-the-art laser powder bed fusion technology. Geometrical precision and roughness of the critical surfaces were measured. Alt-hough the obtained values were beyond standard RFQ specifications, these first results are promising and con-firmed the feasibility of AM manufactured complex cop-per accelerator cavities. Therefore, further post-processing trials have been conducted with the sample RFQ to im-prove surface roughness. Algorithms for the AM techno-logical processes have also been improved, allowing for higher geometrical precision. This resulted in the design of a full 4-vane RFQ prototype. At the time of the paper submission the full-size RFQ is being manufactured and will undergo through the stringent surface quality meas-urements. This paper is discussing novel technological developments, is providing an evaluation of the obtained surface roughness and geometrical precision as well as outlining the potential post-processing scenarios along with future tests plans. Corporate culture supports collaborations by establishing norms and reducing misunderstandings. Because a strong corporate culture relies on costly, voluntary investments by many workers, we model it as an organizational public good, subject to standard free-riding problems, which become severe in large organizations. Our main finding is that voluntary contributions to culture can nevertheless be sustained, because an organization’s equilibrium productivity is endogenously highly sensitive to individual contributions. However, the completion of complex tasks is then necessarily fragile to small shocks that damage the organization’s culture.

Abstract In recent years, a strong effort has been dedicated to the development of tokamak plasma regimes alternative to the standard high confinement mode (H-mode) with type-I edge localized mode (ELM), i.e. ELM-free and small-ELM regimes, given the associated hardly sustainable energy and particle fluxes on plasma facing components. In this work, we will focus on new H-mode regimes with small-ELMs, the so-called baseline small-ELMs (BSE), characterized by high thermal confinement and low core impurity accumulation, which have been recently found at JET. In order to characterize the micro-turbulence at play at the top of the pedestal, an extensive local linear gyrokinetic analysis with the GKW code has been carried out. In particular, a comparison between a reference type-I ELM (#97395) and two BSE plasmas (#96994 and #94442) has been performed. The ion-scale (0.1 ≤ k θ ρ i ≤ 2) micro-turbulence is found to have different characteristics in the two regimes. Indeed, kinetic-ballooning modes (KBM) are destabilized in the type-I ELM regime at k θ ρ i ∼ 0.1, while they are stable in BSE regimes. In addition, negative (i.e. electron-diamagnetic-direction) frequency modes, identified as electron-temperature-gradient (ETG) modes, are destabilized at k θ ρ i ∼ 1.5 in the type-I ELM regime while BSE regimes are characterized by positive (i.e. ion-diamagnetic-direction) frequency modes. Meanwhile, at electron-scale (10 ≤ k θ ρ i ≤ 700) ETG modes are the dominant micro-instabilities in both regimes. Then, since BSE regimes are characterized by a higher impurity concentration at the pedestal, particular attention has been given to the role played by them. We found that impurities represent a critical player in the linear dynamics, strongly affecting the nature of micro-instabilities at ion-scale.

In order to determined the role played by MT in tokamak pedestal and to evaluate the role played by physical parameters, on MT destabilization a reduced linear model has been presented and compared with gyrokinetic simulations. The analytical model allows a good prediction of the impact of the different physical parameters, like the collisionality in the pedestal.

Emphasis has been placed on transnational networks and cross-cultural contact transcending current nation-states boundaries to address the shared histories of South and Southeast Asia. Despite this renewed interest, there is still little understanding of the inception and early evolution of the BoB networks. Different historiographic and archaeological traditions in South and Southeast Asian countries make comparisons difficult, and together they only partly explain the early development of the BoB networks. Another difficulty is the need to access, analyse, and compare corpora recovered from different countries bordering the BoB. So far, most comparisons have been made based on morpho-stylistic studies of a few easily identifiable and emblematic types of pottery such as rouletted ware and Arikamedu Type 10. Those are almost always taken out of their local context leaving a wider range of ceramic types unexplored. In this presentation, we discuss some emblematic and other lesser-known Indian ceramic types, as well as locally produced hybrid types, discovered in Peninsular Thailand and Myanmar, in the frame of research carried out by the French archaeological mission in Peninsular Thailand-Myanmar since 2005, led by B. Bellina. The ceramics are from multiple sites ranging from the 5 th century BCE to the early centuries AD. We propose to broaden the study of early exchanges in the BoB by placing these ceramics into their local contexts to produce a more integrated understanding of the interactions which, beyond Indian traders, also involve many other groups in the Bay of Bengal.

The stake is to explore the manifestation of the unitary limit in heavy, even-even nuclei. Interactions that govern Feshbach resonances of cold and dilute atomic gases suggest the formulation of an IBM-compound Hamiltonian for scattering two neutrons (2n) from a heavy, even-even target (A). The solutions of the corresponding coupled channel equations host a 2n-IBM state resonance. It turns out that the unitary limit is measurable in a heavy A+2n compound nucleus at low temperatures. That measurement is feasible through the fluctuations of the cross-sections that tune the 2n-A scattering length. We measured the relative performance of USM exclusively located either on the host (USM host) or on the device (USM device), or automatically managed and moved (USM shared). We also tried to quantify the impact of formatting data in a GPU-friendly manner as opposed to using a regular pointer-based structure in which the C++ allocator was replaced by the SYCL allocator sycl::malloc. We first made a PCIe-bound micro-benchmark to test the SYCL memory models with a simple access pattern. We then switched to a real use-case provided by Traccc, a research project associated to the ACTS particle tracking library. The algorithm of interest is SparseCCL, a clustering algorithm used on the first step of track reconstruction. For consistency, all tests were made on a single hardware architecture: a recent server having a discrete GPU with dedicated VRAM, representative of the hardware currently used by the ACTS team.

A software-only High Level Trigger will enable unprecedented flexibility for trigger selections. During the first stage (HLT1), a sub-set of the full offline track reconstruction for charged particles is run to select particles of interest based on single or two-track selections. This includes decoding the raw data, clustering of hits, pattern recognition, as well as track fitting, ghost track rejection with machine learning techniques and finally event selections. HLT1 will be processed entirely on O(100) GPUs. We will present the integration of the GPU HLT1 into LHCb’s data acquisition system in preparation for data taking in 2022.

The first prototype of an AM pure-copper radio frequency quadrupole (RFQ) has been produced, corresponding to 1/4 of a 4-vane RFQ*. It was optimised for production with state-of-the-art laser powder bed fusion technology. Geometrical precision and roughness of the critical surfaces were measured. Alt-hough the obtained values were beyond standard RFQ specifications, these first results are promising and con-firmed the feasibility of AM manufactured complex cop-per accelerator cavities. Therefore, further post-processing trials have been conducted with the sample RFQ to im-prove surface roughness. Algorithms for the AM techno-logical processes have also been improved, allowing for higher geometrical precision. This resulted in the design of a full 4-vane RFQ prototype. At the time of the paper submission the full-size RFQ is being manufactured and will undergo through the stringent surface quality meas-urements. This paper is discussing novel technological developments, is providing an evaluation of the obtained surface roughness and geometrical precision as well as outlining the potential post-processing scenarios along with future tests plans. Corporate culture supports collaborations by establishing norms and reducing misunderstandings. Because a strong corporate culture relies on costly, voluntary investments by many workers, we model it as an organizational public good, subject to standard free-riding problems, which become severe in large organizations. Our main finding is that voluntary contributions to culture can nevertheless be sustained, because an organization’s equilibrium productivity is endogenously highly sensitive to individual contributions. However, the completion of complex tasks is then necessarily fragile to small shocks that damage the organization’s culture.

Abstract In recent years, a strong effort has been dedicated to the development of tokamak plasma regimes alternative to the standard high confinement mode (H-mode) with type-I edge localized mode (ELM), i.e. ELM-free and small-ELM regimes, given the associated hardly sustainable energy and particle fluxes on plasma facing components. In this work, we will focus on new H-mode regimes with small-ELMs, the so-called baseline small-ELMs (BSE), characterized by high thermal confinement and low core impurity accumulation, which have been recently found at JET. In order to characterize the micro-turbulence at play at the top of the pedestal, an extensive local linear gyrokinetic analysis with the GKW code has been carried out. In particular, a comparison between a reference type-I ELM (#97395) and two BSE plasmas (#96994 and #94442) has been performed. The ion-scale (0.1 ≤ k θ ρ i ≤ 2) micro-turbulence is found to have different characteristics in the two regimes. Indeed, kinetic-ballooning modes (KBM) are destabilized in the type-I ELM regime at k θ ρ i ∼ 0.1, while they are stable in BSE regimes. In addition, negative (i.e. electron-diamagnetic-direction) frequency modes, identified as electron-temperature-gradient (ETG) modes, are destabilized at k θ ρ i ∼ 1.5 in the type-I ELM regime while BSE regimes are characterized by positive (i.e. ion-diamagnetic-direction) frequency modes. Meanwhile, at electron-scale (10 ≤ k θ ρ i ≤ 700) ETG modes are the dominant micro-instabilities in both regimes. Then, since BSE regimes are characterized by a higher impurity concentration at the pedestal, particular attention has been given to the role played by them. We found that impurities represent a critical player in the linear dynamics, strongly affecting the nature of micro-instabilities at ion-scale.

In order to determined the role played by MT in tokamak pedestal and to evaluate the role played by physical parameters, on MT destabilization a reduced linear model has been presented and compared with gyrokinetic simulations. The analytical model allows a good prediction of the impact of the different physical parameters, like the collisionality in the pedestal.

Emphasis has been placed on transnational networks and cross-cultural contact transcending current nation-states boundaries to address the shared histories of South and Southeast Asia. Despite this renewed interest, there is still little understanding of the inception and early evolution of the BoB networks. Different historiographic and archaeological traditions in South and Southeast Asian countries make comparisons difficult, and together they only partly explain the early development of the BoB networks. Another difficulty is the need to access, analyse, and compare corpora recovered from different countries bordering the BoB. So far, most comparisons have been made based on morpho-stylistic studies of a few easily identifiable and emblematic types of pottery such as rouletted ware and Arikamedu Type 10. Those are almost always taken out of their local context leaving a wider range of ceramic types unexplored. In this presentation, we discuss some emblematic and other lesser-known Indian ceramic types, as well as locally produced hybrid types, discovered in Peninsular Thailand and Myanmar, in the frame of research carried out by the French archaeological mission in Peninsular Thailand-Myanmar since 2005, led by B. Bellina. The ceramics are from multiple sites ranging from the 5 th century BCE to the early centuries AD. We propose to broaden the study of early exchanges in the BoB by placing these ceramics into their local contexts to produce a more integrated understanding of the interactions which, beyond Indian traders, also involve many other groups in the Bay of Bengal.
