Going beyond the basic provision of etymological mechanisms in the TEI guidelines, TEI Lex-0 Etym proposes a systematic representation of etymological and cognate descriptions by means of embedded constructs based on the (for etymologies) and (for etymons and cognates) elements. In particular, given that all the potential contents of etymons are highly analogous to those of dictionary entries in general, the contents presented herein heavily re-use many of the corresponding features and constraints introduced in other components of the TEI Lex-0 to the encoding of etymologies and etymons. The TEI Lex-0 Etym model is also closely aligned to ISO 24613-3 on modelling etymological data and the corresponding TEI serialisation available in ISO 24613-4.

Providing access to scientifically verified information, they represent an important part of the research and didactic infrastructure. This paper demonstrates the activities of Croatia’s Miroslav Krleža Institute of Lexicography aimed at exploring the new encyclopaedic concept in the digital age. The Institute’s digital transformation is shown, which involves the digitisation and online publishing of archival editions, publishing of the permanently updated online general encyclopaedia, and the transformation of specialised encyclopedias to the encyclopaedic portals. Encyclopaedic portals could represent a new concept of encyclopaedias in the digital realm by serving as platforms for data networking and sharing, a sort of ‘junction points’ that connect diverse digital content on a specific topic. Institute’s publicly available repository of encyclopaedic knowledge enables the linking to the digital data and collections of other research and cultural institutions; therefore the collaborative projects aimed at reinforcing digital research and cultural infrastructure will be described. Thanks to the properties of the digital media and increasing connectivity, a closer collaboration Towards a New Concept of Open Access Online Encyclopaedia : A Case Study from... between professionally edited online encyclopaedias across Europe (and beyond) is enabled. This paper elaborates a range of initiatives seeking to build connections across individual European and North American national encyclopaedias, focusing on the role that Croatian encyclopaedistics plays in this endeavour.

PACTOLS is a multilingual and open repository about archaeology from Prehistory to the present and for Classics. It is organized into six micro-thesaurus at the root of its name (Peuples, Anthroponymes,Chronologie, Toponymes, Oeuvres, Lieux, Sujets). The goal is to turn it into a tool interoperable with information systems beyond its original documentary purpose, and usable by archaeologists as a repository for managing scientific data. During the talk, we will describe the choice of tools, the organisation of work within the steering group and the collaborations with specialists for the upgrading and development of the vocabulary while showing the strengths and limitations of some experiments. Above allit will show how the introduction of the conceptual categories of the BackBone Thesaurus of DARIAH, modelled on the CIDOC-CRM ontology, through a progressive deconstruction/reconstruction process, eventually had an impact on all micro thesauri and questioned the organisation of knowledge so far proposed.

In this context, SHAPE-ID Work Package 3 (WP3) organised a series of workshops to learn directly from the experiences of researchers from across disciplines, as well as policy makers, funders and representatives from research performing organisations, industry and the cultural sector. This deliverable comprises two parts: Section A illustrates the matrix for integration of learning cases and the framework of analysis that was co-designed with the SHAPE-ID partners at the Co-Design Workshop, held at ISINNOVA, in Rome, on 13-14 June 2019. Section B illustrates a challenge-oriented research evaluation framework, criteria and tools proposed to evaluate research projects, as well as an evaluation methodology proposed for the learning workshops.

The establishment of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) has created an opportune moment for the strategic planning of research infrastructure between and across all the research areas. Led by Giles Bergel and Pip Willcox, this report is based on the findings of a workshop held at the University of Oxford’s e-Research Centre (OeRC) on 21 June 2018 and sponsored by the Software Sustainability Institute. The workshop was led by an advisory board of Digital Humanities practitioners, representing a range of career stages, roles, and disciplines. The workshop’s organisers and advisory board are the joint authors of this report, with contributions from workshop participants. The mission of the Software Sustainability Institute (SSI) is to cultivate better, more sustainable, research software to enable world-class research. Currently celebrating its 10th year, the SSI has achieved broadening engagement across academic communities including humanities – for example as a longstanding supporter of the Digital Humanities at Oxford Summer School (DHOxSS), and with SSI Fellows in the arts and humanities areas. This report was commissioned by the SSI with the aim of advancing its mission within the humanities. Digital Humanities, a broad intersection of models, methods, tools, materials, career paths and affiliations, in both established and novel disciplines was identified as the area within the humanities that most closely aligns with the SSI’s role. The Software Sustainability Institute is supported by the UK Research Councils through Grants EP/H043160/1, EP/N006410/1, and EP/S021779/1.

The chapters included here demonstrate innovative approaches that drive forward the research interests of both humanists and technologists while showing that rigorous scholarship is as central to digital research as it is to mainstream classical studies.\ud \ud As with the earlier Digital Classicist publications, our aim is not to give a broad overview of the field of digital classics; rather, we present here a snapshot of some of the varied research of our members in order to engage with and contribute to the development of scholarship both in the fields of classical antiquity and Digital Humanities more broadly.

By bringing together national activities from Member countries, DARIAH is able to offer a portfolio of services and activities centred around research communities. DARIAH was established as a European legal entity in August 2014 with 15 countries - Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, The Netherlands, Slovenia and Serbia – as Founding Members. This was an important step towards developing a research infrastructure for sharing and sustaining digital arts and humanities knowledge across Europe and beyond. Using the opportunity to present a poster at DH Benelux 2015 as a starting point, the authors would like to explore how DARIAH-BE, DARIAH-LU and DARIAH-NL could collaborate to both strengthen their participation in DARIAH within their individual countries and together as the Benelux region. Initial ideas include: a) increasing collaboration between researchers and infrastructure providers: taking advantage of the geographical proximity and language synergies to participate in shared activities e.g. joint research projects and training events, b) increasing funding opportunities: exploring regional possibilities for funding and establishing partnerships for European funding proposals and c) sharing DARIAH knowledge and experience: increasing understanding and identifying synergies between the DARIAH activities in each country. Through strengthening the collaboration between DARIAH activities in Belgium, Luxembourg and The Netherlands, we would like to facilitate maximum participation of digital humanities researchers in the Benelux region in DARIAH in order to take full advantage of the benefits of being part of the European DARIAH community.
